It's nice to know he made it to 90 before passing. I always liked his character in Band of Brothers. If the real man was anything like that then he must have been one heck of a character to know.

LOL. I noticed too. Camera makes picture look very shaky. I have no idea why. It's not just me as my phone camera doesn't have this problem. Anyway, the "rubber" look is result of the shakyness editor youtube provides.
-
My promised 2nd review. I also stated my position on the allegations of bad business and poor quality I've been hearing. I tried to be as fair to everyone as I can about it. Shakiness editor still running at time of posting.

Specifically when it comes to putting his trust in Russian security at the Olympics over anyone else. Here's an example of why.

Wouldn't it be funny if a terrorist came out during that event with a bomb on his chest screaming "Ala Akbar" and the competitor swung around and put one between his eyes?

Do you tell your fellow shooters and friends about this site?

I only have a tiny handful of FTF gun buddies. One is already a member (Mr. Robobot) 2 are not forum users at all, 1 has no interest in getting a .308AR and another can't afford one and has many other priorities if he could. There's one possible candidate but the conversation hasn't really come up. We spoke about him getting a .308AR but he sounds like he's more interested in playing with his AK. I wouldn't call him a highly likely candidate. I HAVE mentioned the sight to other people but they're not really my gun buddies. Just gun people I come across now and then. One of the 2 non-forum guys just bought a Benelli M4 and he asked me about upgrades and I told him the best thing is to hit up a message board. So this time he's showing interest. He's also dead set on getting a .308AR and can afford it. So he MAY be coming our way in the future. -
Oh, OK. It sounded like you were talking to the OP. Sometimes I wonder if California politicians ever graduated from pre-school.

Hello folks. I wound up getting a Red-X upper for my .308 as you know I think even before I joined this board. I heard from other people on the board at the time that their experience with Red-X uppers has been good. On top of that, when I dealt with them they were very quick to respond to mi inquiries and got the product delivered right when they said they would, almost to the day. I eventually put up a positive video review on youtube. After shooting the gun, I found the gun to be very accurate and very reliable. Weak finish and heavy weight are the only complaints about the upper I have. However, more recently, as in the last year and a half or so I have been hearing nightmare stories about Red-X both in the quality of their products and in their customer service. Since all of my direct personal experience with Red-X Arms and their products have been good, I am having a hard time taking down my review despite of all the horror stories I am hearing as I am very careful about judging others, especially based on 2nd hand information. But I also know that many companies start out good and soon go south and it kinda sounds like this may be the case with Red-X. Any insight on the matter?

Gnough...... I missed it.

Finished my first and last LR 308 build yesterday
MaDuce replied to txbdyguard's topic in General Discussion
CONGRATULATIONS!! That build sounds like a good way to make a top notch LR-308 without breaking the bank, going economical where you can really afford to, going top notch where things are critical. -
LOL. Polka-dot underwear.

You guys aren't making fun of this fellow, are you? I wonder how many of us didn't know there was a difference between a clip and a magazine when we first got in to guns. If he's new to the hobby, lets try and help him learn in stead of make fun of him for what most people outside the gun community seam to think. I don't know about the rest of you but everything I know about guns I first had to learn.

I thought "ghost" referred to white or grey furniture?

LOL. Reminds me of a guy who tried to hook me up with his (highly attractive to look at) girlfriend. Someone told me I was crazy when I didn't go for it. I told him that a man trying to hook you up with his girlfriend is a big clue. That said, If I am to have a spouse, I am going to make sure to be satisfactory towards her first. If there's no love, compassion and show of affection then what's the point?

Thanks Madhouse. I would have done it myself if I could have. The car has a trashed interior, but that's OK. I was planning from the beginning to completely redo the entire interior my own way, which involves synthetic leather, suede, race seats, carbon fiber and a bunch of ellectronics. Right now I'm working on getting it ready for smog check, insurance and the like. I bought this as my dream car, but "as is" plays no part in that. LOL.

Thanks. Now to get it regstered and start tricking it out.

Just got a new toy today. I've been saving up for this for 2 years. Savings crashed and burned a few times (wound up needing the $ for other things) but it finally happened today.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Sci fi authors tend to be more in the know. And yes, the 1300s is one of the more misunderstood centuries in history. In many ways the reverse of what people today think. Funny you mentioned Monty Python though. Terry Jones and I heard (but never saw proof) that one other are actually pretty good historians who tell it like it is outside of the Monty Python films. They say that in the 1300s the English were very similar culturally to present day USA and individual accounts I've read from during the reign of king Richard II seam to suggest that..

Here's something interesting for you. We'll look at 3 medieval movies (unfortunately just the trailers) and see which of them accurately depicted the medieval period. #1. Braveheart. Mel Gibson's famed historical epic. #2. Robin Hood The newer Russel Crow movie said to be the first shot giving us Robin Hood with great historical accuracy. #3. A Knight's Tale A family comedy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClNPiTjo808 Compare them to the attached real contemporary medieval pictures of England and France. Well, let's start with what all 3 got right. People had swords. Also, peasant clothing seams to be consistent with reality in all 3 though I wouldn't call this anything special as you have plenty of room to be creative here. Braveheart shows soldiers in Lamellar. As the pictures show, there's reason to suggest that the Normans may have used it to that extent but by the late 1200s and 1300s European armor was undergoing a transition to plate armor. Because of the transitional time Braveheart was set in, it's not beyond plausibility that they were using lamellar to that extent but I think the more likely reality is that armor was a much more mixed bag for both sides. Also, the real William Wallace probably looked more like the King Edward of the movie while the real King Edward was; by all accounts, an exceptionally tall and imposing figure. Robin Hood DOES seam to do a decent job of depicting rural medieval life. Even better then brave heart. The one thing I though they did surprisingly well at is accurately portraying the personalities of Richard the Lion Heart and Bad King John, at least to the extent of what is known about them. But beyond that; both movies badly mess up. I can go on all day about issues with them but the biggest one IMO is simply making medieval society look completely undeveloped. Particularly depicting medieval towns and cities as heaps of mud and feces with a few small huts for homes. Keep in mind there's only a roughly 60 year gap between the time of Braveheart and the time of A Knight's Tale. While A Knight's Tale is ultimately a comedy, the movie is surprisingly accurate outside of the silly behavior. The armor actually matches medieval pictures of the armor, the structures match, the banquets depict women in similar dress to medieval pictures we have with the elaborate hair styles often seen in medieval pictures. On top of that, the medieval towns and cities appear pretty accurate to the time, especially seeing London with the multi-story apartment complexes and nobility bleachers at sports arenas that we know were there but almost never see in so-called historical movies. And aside from what we're looking at, the story elements fit surprisingly well in many ways. The movie is set in 1356 as society was recovering from the black death pandemic of which women profited from and saw some changes and relaxation in the social order. The main foe in that movie is; in many ways a pretty classic example of a typical medieval knight, though greatly cleaned up as a fully unrestrained example of a typical medieval knight would have left the movie both R and X rated. The Black Prince himself was the sort who preferred to honor men according to their abilities and performance, so it's very conceivable that he would have knighted a peasant who proved his merit. It's actually more suspect that he would use family history (real or fabricated) as justification. BTW. The Black Prince was the first European military commander to effectively use cannons on the battlefield, which he used to help win the battle of Crecy in 1346. Ironic isn't it. That people spend so much $ making these super realistic epics that they greatly screw up on yet a family spoof gets it right.

Here's a few of my own to get things started. Q&A jokes from when I was a kid. Q. Do you know what Romania said to Russia when Russia offered them Turkey? A. Norway too much Greece. I'm also not Hungary. Q. The strongest man in the wrld was arrested. Do you know why? A. He lifted a bank. Q. The tallest man in the world was arrested. Do you know why? A. He was high. Story jokes from the last few years. A terrorist cell in Afghanistan was expecting the US military to attack them the following day. But the cell leader knew that all cells the military engaged were wiped out and he didn't want his cell to face the same fate. So, in what appeared to be a stroke of genius he sat them in front of a TV and said, "Men, we will fight the Americans tomorrow and I want you to be best prepared. So I want you to watch this movie. It's called, "Black Hawk Down". It was made by the Americans and it shows how their soldiers really fight. Watch it and you will jknow best what to do when you face them tomorrow." So they all watched the movie as he ordered. When the Americans arrived the following day, the terrorists all promptly surrendered. ..... There was a vetrans day parade and WWII vets were marching with all their medals. Spectators noticed one fellow's chest was covered in medals but they were all nazi medals with silver crosses and swasticas. Spectators notified the authorities who pulled him aside and said, "Are you a German veteran?" He replied, "No, I am American." They then said, "It's a terrible insult to our troops for you to be marching with some medals you bought at some pawn shop. These men fought hard for our freedom and their medals are symbols of their accomplishments." The man replied, "You have me all wrong. I am a vet and these medals are simbols of my accomplishments. They're my trophy collection. Moral of the story. You don't win wars by dieing for your country. You win them by making the other SOB die for his. ...... This one was meant for kids. Probably a little too cheezy for most adults but great for telling kids at a babrbeque. Read the last sentince of the joke out loud or you may not get it. There was a knight and a dragon who were best friends. They did everything together. They both loved steak and the knight was a great cook. So they would kill a wild bull every day and the knight would marinade the meat over night and they would cook and eat it the next evening. One night, the knight marinated the meat but the next morning the dragon woke up and let out a big yawn causing fire to blow out of his mouth and cook the meat. They were both upset that the meat had been cooked early but they weren't willing to waste it, so they tried it anyway. To their surpprise it was very good. Realizing they discovered a new recipe, they called it the flaming yawn.

It's been a dark and gloomy week end. I'm in the mood for some jokes. It seams there are few highly cicrulated jokes going around I haven't already heard. But some of the best I've heard were made up by the individual I heard them from and some of the best of those I've heard from the gun community. So, let's hear them. Jokes YOU made up.

Since we're apparently doing some show and tell now, these are some pictures of my wootz (true Damascus) folder. It went missing at my mother's house a little while ago. It had served me very well until then. Was super effective at cutting and strong as an ox. The only down side is the 1.7% carbon steel blade had to be babied. You don't find knives like this at wal mart or the hardware store. You've gotta find people willing to make them. But they're worth it.
-
That's pretty. Pattern welded blades are great to look at. I may order myself a piece of pattern welded steel some day. Right now though I am planning a couple wootz (true Damascus) folders and since wootz is both mega strong and has a pattern, I may hold off for a year or 2. Do you know who made that blade?

I am with you 100% on that. The only reason I never became a cop is because I can't throw people in jail for activities that are not real crimes. I alway have and always will do what I believe in. If my job requires that I violate my beliefs, I find another one. Arrest is not conviction. At least California recognizes that. Just be very careful your statement/s don't get you on the suspect list. It's amazing how easy that can happen. My rule is that I don't talk to police unless I have something specific to offer. If I do, I will share it and I have (very recently in fact) but I knew exactly what I was doing and that there was no chance of myself ending up on the list of suspects. Regarding witness to crime, see my above point. Note what they said in the video, "under no uncertain terms". If the terms are certain then you're obviously OK. As far as LEOs, Mr. Robobot and I never really talked about it but all the other cops and former cops I know and have talked about it with are in agreement with keeping your mouth shut. They seam to have a , "good night Ralph. Good night Sam" attitude towards the matter. It's their job to get people to talk but have no problem admittign on personal grounds that it's a bad idea. Refusing to talk to police is not an act of hate or disrespect to the officers. And police can usually tell if you're just being a jerk or if you're keeping your mouth shut because you understand the risks of opening it. BTW. My nephiew's grandfather is a Florida cop (my brother got a cop's 14 year old daughter pregnant. Shows how smart he is). He (grandpa) told me a few years ago that one of his lines to suspects is, "You have the right to remain silent and you better use it". sighting that he never arrests anyone unless he has enough evidence to convict them. They say that if he arrests you then you need to be arrested. Even so, I can hardly believe he didn't kill my brother when my brother got their baby pregnant. I don't judge other according to their family and I hope to god I am given the same consideration. LOL.
