  1. It already is a disaster! <laughs> Wouldn't that be great? Kick out all the politicos and watch them show up to a world leaders' meeting? "Look! It's the president and congress without a country!" Jon
  2. Mag Pul is definately carving out a market for themselves. With a chainsaw. Jon
  3. Did the lapping yesterday. Have to say, the GG&G mount required minimal lapping...close to zip. What could be felt easily with my fingers came off with just a few minutes of lapping. I marked the ring-tops to the bottoms, then got going. What little disruptions in the smoothocity (technical term I just coined) there were in the surface of the rings was so easily removed with 220 grit compound, that I believe they were more a part of the anodizing than the machining process. In fact, there isn't even any bare metal. I'm now going to do all my rings, now that I have the kit. If any of you here in AZ need to use it, let me know. Jon
  4. Last I saw there were 47 states where some citizens had started petitions to secede from the United States. Wouldn't it be easier to kick out all the politicians and malcontents? :o Thought about how that would be easier... After signing Arizona's petition. <lmao> Jon
  5. EXACTLY what I was thinking with the thread title, Mike! <laughs> If you look close brother Rene, I also installed a DPMS stock extender, which I had it on good authority allows clearance of the charging handle. It does by just a little less than the length of the extender (so the CH would easily hit the cheek piece w/o it). Will install a new CH also. Getting ready to order some colors from Lauer...psshht-psshht-pshht...some for me, some for the gals (or Robo, however you want to look at it). Jon
  6. Seems like someone starred in this play before. <laughs> Shows what you know though Mike! After teaching this past weekend I broke even! <lmao> Jon
  7. Got the PST mounted...a good start, with the PRS! Planning on some more color in the near future. Jon
  8. The SIG Precision Marksman 716? Yeah...can't get what isn't being shipped yet. I was all over one of them but they keep pushing back the dates. Jon
  9. Got the PRS and buttstock extender mounted today. Also took the Redfield off of Freedom Machine, in preparation for mounting the 2-7x33 scope on the new Savage MKII FSS. Should be quite the bunny sniper. :sniper: Should be able to lap the one-piece mount tomorrow and get the Vortex mounted, if nothing else comes up. Once everything is mounted I'll post pics. Jon
  10. Welcome from AZ str8shuuter45! Jon
  11. +1 on the Redfields! I have a 2-7x33 now on the Freedom Machine (not for long). I have heard many complain that Simmons are hit or miss with quality control. In that price range take a look at the Nikon Buckmaster series. Towards the upper end of your price range you can get very good magnification and a side-adjustable parallax control too. Nikon has great glass...very clear and bright image across their whole production offerings. Jon
  12. What Remington/Freedom Group/Cerberus did with Marlin leverguns after purchasing them, making a move unteneble for all the long-term employees, and then starting production in Ilion, is unbelievable. Starting almost immediately after moving production people were posting photos of rifles NIB with front sights fallen off and un-/improperly tapped screw holes, mismatched stocks, correct serial numbers but the rifle identified wrong on the box, bolts that wouldn't close all the way. The FG exec in charge of the fiasco was canned. When I got the 20" RRA, after I'd had it a bit but not shot it, I noticed a little speck of unfinished metal on top of the FA housing. No idea if it was there or I didn't notice it. Stuff can be irritating from the factory. Before Marlin was purchased/moved, I was blessed to get a newly introduced 1894CSS .357 Magnum. Perfect condition. Went to the county range. Crap happens, nobody to blame, but it got knocked off the rifle rack there and not only HIT the concrete, but bounced and rattled like a quarter coming to a stop from spinning. The whole range got quiet, I picked it up to see a scuffed receiver top with bits of concrete grit still stuck to the metal. Loudly said "Well, at least I don't have to worry about scuffing it up anymore!" and everyone went back to shooting. Still better to have a hand in it than get it from the factory that way. Jon
  13. So looking to replace my gas blocks. Looks like the closest measurement is 0.750", with the Operator barrels measuring 0.740" exactly. Is this a "close enough" proposition? Now, is there any issue with aluminum gas blocks? Any preference of set screw type versus the clamping type? It would seem the clamping type would get a better seal. Jon
  14. +1 on the MBUS. Have one on each operator...front and rear. With the rear MBUS on mine I had to crank the front post all the way down, on the gas block front sight that RRA Operators come with. Jon
  15. Maybe it's because I'm a manly-man but I doubt it. :cookoo: The design is such that the weight distributes very evenly. While I have yet to try out the backpack straps for carrying the load, with either the handle or the shoulder strap it doesn't feel too bad. Nice self-contained go-bag. Jon
  16. One of these in olive drab, 42" length, got stuck on my hands at the SW No Tax Sale the other day. I think this is the one Tom >:D was looking at when we met. Well built, comes with a shoulder strap and backpack straps to carry it with, or you can just use the suitcase type handle above the zippers. It has three compartments on the front of the case, two smaller on either side of a larger middle pocket. All those pockets are bisected with a strip of nylon cloth, effectively making two pockets in one. The flap those three pockets are attached to unzips on three sides, opening up to a large storage area. This has two large velcroed pockets facing each other against the case body, and two zippered pockets on the flap. On either side of this large pocket flap on the case body are MOLLE attachement points, five each on five rows on both sides. The rifle compartment has hospital corners to tuck in the end of your weapons, with velcro straps on both ends and on both sides. This compartment is also bisected by a foam pad attached at the bottom of the compartment, able to flip back and forth. What will it hold? Right now it has Liberty, ten loaded magazines, the Mossy 930, and 100 slug rounds. :o A few extra mag attachments on the MOLLE carriers will do nicely. ;) Jon
  17. Wecome from AZ MrB! Jon
  18. <lmao> <laughs> Maybe Shepp should've held onto her collar while they were doing it! <lmao> Jon
  19. Excellent! Thanks guys! I'm guessing that 0.030" explains why some of the M4 stocks seem a bit loose on certain rifles. Jon
  20. My plan was to avoid the place during the sale. Didn't work. Jon
  21. In the knife catagory all I have for utility is a Mauser, issued to German troops for awhile. The ultimate in simplicity. All it has is a Victorianox clip-point blade, a Mauser blade that looks like a miniature Bowie, a screw driver/bottle opener/can opener/saw, and on the back are a cork screw and an awl. Jon
  22. The sad thing is there are those to which that news truly is unexpected. They are at this very moment standing 2 and 3 deep at gun counters around the nation, wondering why this happened. They should've called Cleo for $3.99/minute. Jon
  23. We don't watch any broadcast boobtube, no cable/satellite. But my foster sister is all gooey over Duck Dynasty guys. Jon
  24. So when that Spartan lower receiver gets here, what size buffer tube will it take? I see at Brownell's there are commercial and Mil-Spec sizes. Will it make a difference as to what telescoping stock we get also? Jon
  25. Sweet! Bet you can't wait to not hear it! Jon
