  1. I'm basically in Tucson, actually in the county. What year did you get your diploma? Jon
  2. Arizona has one thing that neither Texas nor Florida currently has...open carry. Dusty, you make some great points about responsibility/accountability for that projectile (multiple projectiles from that shotgun). In AZ, while we are now a "stand your ground" state (no duty to retreat in public before using justified deadly force), they will HAMMER you for any innocent getting hurt/killed. For urban/suburban daily carry, you hit the nail on the head. Lots of the nation isn't aware but there were at least two citizens at the Giffords shooting carrying concealed but they couldn't safely take a shot (with sixty people running eighty different directions, I defy anyone to place a well aimed shot from a distance in that chaos). Out in the desert here though, I want firepower close, if not actually on my person. South of the interstate system anything goes with traffickers...of drugs or humans. Huge swaths of my state are posted "WARNING: This area serves as a corridor for drug and human smuggling!!" Stash houses for the same contraband can and have been found in any area/neighborhood, from the poorest to the wealthiest. We're still responsible for anything that gets hit downrange. Be sure of your target and what is beyond. Jon
  3. I'm prayin' you get it, zuma! Jon
  4. I know one guy that had a gun in .45 GAP. During the great ammo shortage he was like "What ammo shortage?" GAP being the only stuff sitting on shelves. It was a fun gun to shoot! Jon
  5. Du wist wilkommen! As soon as I can usurp control of what is now wifey's laptop, I'll get those links posted. Jon
  6. Mine do. Jon
  7. Forgot about the concealment vest! It should be here tomorrow with the next to last order. Jon
  8. It looks like a very high quality sight assembly to me. Hopefully I can get to the range tomorrow or Saturday and sight both of them in. Jon
  9. Well Captain Impulse got tired of waiting. Went to Sportsman's and all they had for the MBUS was the DE, so I got that, then looked in the scope counter (when will I ever learn?). SW currently has the Eotech 512.A65 in TAN on sale for $380. Well, that kinda matches the MBUS. I took pics but I'm having trouble posting them with the iMac...getting the message "format not recognized" even though it is jpeg. Oh well...I can see it. <laughs> Jon
  10. Greetings from AZ Chris! Jon
  11. Good to make the right choice, classacked. <thumbsup> Some people like building. Other people like shooting. <laughs> Jon
  12. Muy bueno, Soofley! Jon
  13. Why don't you bring that over to Marana, Blue109? We can test it out on my new tumbler targets when they get here! Jon
  14. And therein lies one of the mysteries of the gun world. A person can take five guns off the same production line, one after the other, identical in features and they all shoot differently. One may like anything you feed it, another may only like bullets of a certain weight or heavy or light bullets, another may shoot like a shotgun. If you reload it is the hook, line, and sinker. Jon
  15. 10-30x20mm monocular, big ass duffle bag for the range, and two "M-65 style" Greek surplus field jackets (they were $10 each!). Jon
  16. Thread resurrection! I've heard nothing but good about Mernickle and have been looking at one of their shoulder holsters, and the crossdraw also. Jon
  17. On our other computer I have links to a couple of companies that specialize in ladies' concealed carry. A good place to look is Cornered Cat (for anybody...she has all sorts of pertinent information for staying alive). Jon
  18. AZ welcomes you, Johann! Jon
  19. Glad to have you here, swamp_stalker! Jon
  20. I've trained plenty of people to use their dominant eye with their "weak" hand. The new "tactical" terminology is "support hand" but we'll stick with weak hand here, since it is already in use. The students I've had who have done a successful transition from strong hand to weak hand with their dominant eye, all do a few things that were suggested. First, practice with your weak hand (this is something EVERYONE should be doing anyway). Familiarity will come with more use. While things are better in the gun world for lefty-ism, it is still a right-handed world. Traditional magazine or slide releases and safties can be a challenge, double-action revolvers are downright awkward (unless you get a Charter Arms left-handed model, but then drills with your right hand will be equally awkward). Practice at home when you can, using an ULOADED GUN, get a proper grip (both single- and two-handed), use different shooting positions. Remember, your shooting stance is going to be a mirror of your right-handed stance and will feel awkward at first. Think outside the box. For example, lots of lefty 1911 shooters gave us the use of the trigger finger, pulled back behind the trigger to push the magazine release on the left side of the frame. I use this with my XDs right or left handed. When you first start, you will find that your fingers, hand, wrist, and arm will tire easily and fairly quickly. If you can run a whole box of ammo through your gun without getting tired then you are in really good shape. Simple exercises can help you build endurance and muscle. Climbers clay, grip balls, wrist curls, and hammer curls help the muscles in question. Any decent and reputable instructor can help you, if you have some in your area. If not, then you can treat me to lunch when you make it out to Arizona, after we do some shooting. <thumbsup> Jon
  21. My Marlin 1894C was plenty accurate. With 6.8gr of Herco under 158gr RNFPL, it would put all NINE rounds into one ragged hole at 50 yards, with those crappy stock buckhorn sights. I gave that as a wedding present to my niece and her hubby. I've not measured my other levers for groups but can consistently hit steel milkjugs at 220yds, with either my .357 or .45 Colt. A buddy on MO consistently gets half-MOA at 100 yards with his Marlins. Another guy loads up his .30-30 with BTHPs and spitzers, shooting it for accuracy out to 600yds. I took the .357 on the annual "Dude's Trip", and everyone was able to keep a Gatorade jug bouncing for a whole magazine. Plenty good enough for someone demanding rice and water from me in SHTF. Jon
  22. Ala Mini14>Mini30? Makes sense. If they did a .308 on an AR it would be pretty cool. Jon
