Being from South Lousy-ana :P myself & knowing the type of extreme hunting conditions you're engaging in and I'm curious as to why you would rule out Stainless Steel ?
Lothar Walther makes some of the best barrels on the market, getting one in a timely manner is another story ::)
To my knowledge CMMG barrels are fine, I wouldn't own anything else they sell though.
Lighter & shorter is definitely better for hog hunting with dogs! 308AR's range from 7-12 lbs. generally, mine is closer to the 11 lb. mark stripped and I wouldn't even consider bringing it hog hunting(w/dogs) The 8lb. range would be about the same as shooting your average scoped bolt action rifle.
You could always buy a factory barrel like the dpms and try it out and if needed have it re contoured later by a smith.
