welcome skinless, I also looked at the Millet and many more for a long long while before deciding on the Vortex when I found a good deal. Iv also heard the swfa SS fixed power ones are a real good bang for buck if your into fixed power that is.

ATN ARIES MK SERIES NIGHT VISION WEAPON SIGHTS
btate868 replied to imschur's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Hopefully this isnt to late of a response but I think anything within the same month is acceptable lol. I picked up an atn for a pretty good price used and didnt know how I should sight it in so I called and they said to use the lens cap with the hole in it like the previous poster said but they didnt mention whether prolonged use in daylight was ok or not. I understand that this scope in the link isnt a third gen and the one I picked up is but mine is pretty clear at night, although I have heard mixed reviews about ATN products. -
Missed the first part Dusty, it is a low pro gas block from YHM with a 12 inch FF tube from YHM. The tube originally came on a Fulton 22 inch upper I bought but I replaced it with a troy MRF 13.8 because I wanted an uninterrupted top rail then I used the YHM on this new build, I like the look of longer tubes on carbines that cover the gas block. The lower is from the Fulton 22 inch upper I just put it on here for the purpose of the pic.

I just read this post and tried it and it worked so i thing everything should be good to go. this was a pretty good idea thanks dusty

I looked at everything with my flashlight and things seem to be ok and lined up, the items I bought are the correct parts so im assuming, which I hate to do, everything will work that way it should. Unfortunately I wont get to test this until after this semester.

Welcome, looking forward to seeing pics of the rifle
-
I appreciate you looking at your own rifle for me, I will measure it when I get a chance tonight and compare to yours. Its not the Sass, its the 16 inch with a .750 seat. Ill also try what you suggested johnny, if what I have here is close to what you guys have im gonna shoot it when I get the chance and hopefully all goes well. Thanks again gents, this is the quickest and most helpful forum im part of.

ok so the bcg and handle dropped in fine, this is the gas block at a credit card space away from the lip and how far the gas tube is sitting in the receiver. added after seeing the post: not what I wanted to hear lol but not a huge problem either, I didnt know those indents were put on by someone. I will shoot him and email in a minute and ask what was on it
-
uploading the pics took so long you already replied washguy, the barrel and bcg are new but take offs (what I was told), I already torqued the barrel nut so I will do as you suggest, I have the FF tube and gas block back off and ill redo and let you know. thanks for the quick responses. ill post another pic here in a minute after its together

Its all different parts, this was supposed to be a budget build so I seen a good deal on the barrel and bcg, both Dpms and got those then bought a yhm low pro gas block and fulton upper. Is there any way to know how far the tube should sit in the upper receiver? The pics of thew gas tube in the receiver are with the has block pushed tight against where the barrel gets thicker, you can see the screw tore up the metal a bit on the one indent on the barrel. The other pic shows how the screws wont line up with the indents.

good afternoon gents, figured id ask the experts a quick question. So my barrel, bcg, gas tube and block arrived today. The barrel is a DPMS 16 inch I got a pretty good deal on along with the bcg and it has the two indents for set screws on a gas block. Now would it be safe to say that with the barrel indexing pin seated and barrel nut properly torqued I can put the gas block on the barrel and everything will be fine? The indents on the barrel do not exactly line up with the set screws on the YHM gas block so could I just push the gas block all the way back to the raised portion of the barrel then tighten the screws down? I am a little lost as to how far the gas tube is supposed to be in the receiver or if its fine when all put together the right way. Thanks in advance everyone.

I am still in the market but wanted a heavy contour with a 936 seat so I can use the gas block I have. I was looking at these originally and did want a 16 but then read that If its going to be suppressed, which this one will be, I could get it quieter with a longer barrel. Im still undecided but thanks for the response, im keeping these in mind for sure if I wanna go with a 16, it still looks decently thick. If not probably go with Fulton again I really like the 22 inch I have from them.

I think I may like to get in on some of this action sir, how much for 25654, the micro front.

Total noob...I'm about to dive in to my first build
btate868 replied to tcoche's topic in Building a .308AR
Hey tcoche sounds like a pretty good parts list you have there. I was also thinking of the Rainier Arms barrel because I wanted shorter than 18.5 but still a heavy contour to use the 936 gas block I already have, plus I like the heavy barrel look. I didnt know the quality though so after this beast is built let us know how it shoots im curious. Also +1 on the Fulton barrels for a future build of yours possibly, I have one in 22 inch and am real pleased with it. -
I like the Knights one also but after I read the post about the three sights tested I though to myself that thing looks tall and seems like it would easily bend if dropped. Im still considering it though, seen a decent priced one on ebay then I thought about pairing it with another brand I liked which is why I started this post because I was unsure of compatibility.
-
ok I see what your saying, I will google it and go from there. After reading another post of how well the magpuls held up after being dropped I may just go with them.
-
Ok thats good stuff, hopefully they come in. I almost wanna just go with a fulton 18 but I didnt really want a rifle length gas system for this build. Thanks for the link though Im gonna give them my email to notify me when in stock.
-
ok decided to build it with an 18 inch in heavy contour so if there are any of those floating around send me a message. Also looking for some back up sights, not set on one specific brand just something pretty decent. Thanks again gents.
-
This makes me think twice about that MATECH rear I wanted, maybe ill look for something a little more beefy.
-
ok things shouldnt be very difficult then because I plan on using something like the DD tube so that the top rail will be uninterrupted but getting the longer one and covering up a low profile gas block and putting a front sight on the end of the tube. I dont really know yet and am having a hard time figuring out which parts to use but thats kind of how I want. This will most likely be an iron sights only but I planned to use flip ups just in case I ever want to try some coyote hunting since I have this ATN aries just laying around or possibly a red dot of some sort. I like the idea of the circular front sight wings so im going to take a look at those. Thanks again for the replies, one more thing, and I hope its ok if I post it here, but does anyone know of some good mid length barrels that are in stock but not insanely priced? I plan to use a Fulton upper but their shortest barrel in 18''
-
Good evening ladies and gents, So I decided hey I think another rifle is what I need in my life and began to look for some things. This time I plan to use iron sights. So heres the question, is there some sort of standard height and as long as the gas block is the same height as the receiver ill be good to go? I wanted to interchange the brands because I like the rear flip up MATECH or Knights 600M but havent decided on a front yet. Thanks in advance.

Those hand guards are real nice, I like the half rail type deal it really stands out from other rifles. Nice 308's gents.
-
I came across a third gen ATN scope, I dont know how it would be compared to any other generation or brand because I have never owned anything else but id say its pretty clear. Iv read to stay away from ATN but I got a ridiculous deal on it. But yea so far it seems to work fine and is rather clear even in a completely unlit room without the IR light on.
-
very nice, like the hand guard alot also. hows the AFG working for you?, i was gonna grab one thinking it'd feel good while prone but didnt know.
