  2. This Is why I love this sight , just plain old good people.. all the rest is just icing on the cake but the foundation is good people....
  3. absolutely they can do so much with them today you see vets climbing mountains ,and running Marathons with one good leg I am sure he will recover lets hope for the best thanks Doc for bumping it ...
  4. I quit shooting lead over 25 years ago when I was Pioneering 7mm apollo and 7mm STW and 6 mm 284 the bullets at that time just flat out sucked for fast speed impact with elk bears etc they blew up I started with the flat based Barnes and never looked back and I have recovered 3 bullets in all those years 2 from elk and 1 from a deer shot at over 400 yards...hey like I said if you can do the work go get em... if you can not then find a caliber you can live with you owe it to the animals you will be shooting at... and good luck with either is is a great pastime learning distance but it takes lots of trigger and powder to do it...
  5. Thanks Doc.......
  6. awesome will be on the way either tomorrow or Monday the point turned out pretty cool it has a shadow cloud in it which is the dark looking spot in the middle....
  7. OK Mr Allen, let me know what you think......

  9. come on guys pass the word I am going to include something with this knife that will be really bad ass!
  10. yes welcome back .......
  11. Anything you buy (and DPMS is a great gun for the money) you will want to change it according to the purpose you are getting it for so maybe state that purpose the range you want to shoot at etc, and drop by the introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself.....
  12. My LR308 love 168, period it is a 1/2 MOA gun with it and next it likes 175 the lighter stuff opens the group quite a bit.. so I stick with 168 Barnes TTSX shoots best...
  13. Ok can one of the mods move this to the for sale section with the pictures winner can pick which type of knife he wants me to make...
  14. I have carried my LR308 everywhere in the back country it is tough here as there are no flat places it is all up and down but I hunt lower than 10,000 ft I hunt from 2000 to 6800 that is about as high as I go and each year I am getting a bit lower....but I have found ways to get my 4 wheeler into certain areas on old horse wagon roads or mining roads that have been abandon and we will back pack the meat to them and then load it sometimes it works other times not ... but I try to hunt smarter now ...on the pic with the 4 wheeler we just packed that elk out of the canyon behind only had to pack maybe 1/2 mile to a old wagon road we cleared it with chainsaw and made it down in the canyon saved a hell of a lot of up hill packing same on the other pic with 4 wheeler we got the elk rolled down hill to a abandoned logging rd and got it out. On the boat pic My ex air force buddy killed this elk about 1/2 mile above the lake so we rolled it whole to the water line gutted skined and quartered it then left and got my boat went up the lake and just handed the quarters on the boat just have to work smart lol These rifles are heavy period but it is not that big a deal compared to 100 lbs of elk meat on your back get a Vivkers 2 point sling carry it over your shoulders arm through and it really is not bad....
  15. yes good shot you will always get less damage from a slow projectile than a fast one ,that is why 45-70 and that family is so good for close range huntingbut you shoot a deer there with a 300 win mag or 338 and there will be much difference... and also the bullet has a lot to do with it hence I shoot barnes to hunt lass meat damage..that doe will be some good eating....
  16. can you just put ammo in a box and send it to someone?or do you have to send through a certain carrier?
  17. Ok this will be a custom one off knife that I will make for the winning bidder.. he can choose from the knives below as to which type he prefers all the knives in these pictures have already sold I only make them on a order only basis I can not duplicate any of them as all stone if different so the one you get will be different in some ways they are one of a kind I will pay the shipping to you priority mail......so opening bid will be 150.00 or more it is for a good cause and I know xmas is coming so do the best you can the winning bidder will send the money to ArmedeyeDoc..he will make sure the family gets it any questions PM me lets do this..
  18. I will agree 100% if you can shoot it, if you can put all the work in to your dope cards hundreds of rounds in the prone postion, off a bipod, bench whatever for me I found out I did NOT like 50 to 60 rounds a day out of a belted magnum it was not fun and that leads to not doing the work necessary to use a gun like that on a animal at 800 yards I will also say there are better choices than 6.5 CM if I had it all to do over I would have gone 6.5 x284 Norma...or the now gun 6.5 PRC.. but I am in so deep in CM that I will never look back when I set the crosshairs on a 800 yard target steel, flesh or mouse it is in trouble but it has taken me a little over 2 years to get there and about 4 grand in equipment....whatever you can shoot accurately and shoot often and enjoy it is what I would shoot... and of course shoot Barnes bullets LOL...good luck
  19. love that stock hand gaurd combo
  20. Well you are right about that Cliff R a four legged animal will not run far on two legs but for me it is all about the meat and I don't waste meat hitting a none dangerous animal in the shoulders or neck and I never make head shots learned that lesson early when I lost a 6 point bull because I shot him in the jaw... on wolves cougars and bears yes I will make the shoulder shot, but on elk deer sheep etc never.. for me it just makes to much mess with bone splinters and blood shot meat... but that is just me ...
  21. something to think about there have been more elk killed with 3006 270 and 30-30 then all the magnums combined in fact jack O'Connor killed everything in North America with a 270 and by todays standards very poorly constructed bullets Elk are really not tough if you hit them where they live in the Basket right behind the shoulder and dead center of the body I have so many one shot kills with that shot I can not count them and they don't run they just die! just like this one 376 yards and never took a step just went stiff and fell over look where the shot placement is... that is the key with elk and big mulies killed my once in a lifetime moose with a 270 and 130 grain Barnes never took a step
  22. Hmmm interesting .. that is my neck of the woods elk tag and licence will set you back about 550.00, nothing here is flat get in shape to climb some hills bring clothes for all types of weather could be 80 degrees could have snow or both in one day.... and remember the size of the gun does not mean anything shot placement is what kills elk so shoot what ever you can shoot well and have confidence in that will get you much more than power... good luck
  23. Everything 98 has said is true my point is and was that to get that 300 WM to the point where you can shoot it at a elk at anything over 500 yards will take 300 rounds minimum ,those rounds will be to work up your dope and then confirm it ... without confirmed dope you have no business shooting at a elk or bear or whatever to miss steel at 900 is a learning lesson to gut shoot a elk at that distance is a crime... and I know this from experience I have killed over 30 elk over 40 bears, 50 deer etc I have been doing this all my life, and all I was saying is shooting heavy loads from any magnum over and over sucks lol the 300 WM is a great hunting gun, just be prepared for the suck to get it where you want it to be for long range hunting.... and I live in Idaho.... I am 90% there with my Creedmoor and my round count is over 400 I used to shoot 7mmSTW but it was brutal to shoot 20 to 40 rounds a day....but hey maybe you are tougher than me ...lol in any event carry on and hope your hunt in Idaho is a good one... what area are you going to hunt?
  24. also Hey I don't like being this close to your crotch, (cleckner) apparently just on camera...... LMAO
