  1. Thanks for this thread! I was wanting to do the same thing with mine after I replace the collapsible stock with an A2.
  2. Thanks for that reminder; I had been meaning to check out Loki. Looks like they primarily focus on the 5.56 platform but maybe they'll venture into the .308 market. The cool thing to me is that they are a local Oklahoma company. It's good to live out here in flyover country! We don't have many 'tarded gun laws here and the Full Auto shoot out is hosted here every year in June. I need to go one of these days.
  3. Yeah- it's only 20 bucks! ;D.
  4. I ran across this software while reading reviews for the Vortex PST I recently purchased. It looks extremely thorough and has really nice reviews. Looking forward to trying it out. Here's more detail on it: http://ballistic.zdziarski.com/
  5. I bet that pink will sell well.
  6. I got a good deal on a Vortex 2.5-10x44 Viper PST in a Burris PEPR mount off my local shooting forum. I was initially thinking that I would get something with more magnification but this Vortex was a good enough deal that if I don't like it on the LR-308 I'll use it on something else. I had not got to look at the PST line but was just going off their reputation. I haven't been to the range with it yet (just got it this evening), so far it is an impressive scope. Anyone have any opinions on them?
  7. You sir, have my respect. Like a lot of drummers, I've been a fan of Keith Moon since I was a young kid. No one will ever play like Moon. Ever. I wanted to see The Who back in the 80s\90s when Entwistle was still alive and Simon Phillips was drumming with them but it never came to be. I did see them about five years ago but it was obviously just Daltrey and Townshend. It was still The Who though! Classic, classic stuff that will always have a place in my music library. My kids are 11 and 9 and they like The Who too so I know I've done at least one thing right as a parent. :D
  8. Welcome from Oklahoma! I'm a forum newbie myself but have spent quite a bit of time on here lately and have really enjoyed it. I'm in the market for a decent optic myself and have looked at some of the Vortex offerings.
  9. I'd like to figure out a way to mount a bipod on it. I still need to figure out what handguard it will end up with and go from there. I may also go with a gas block that has a rail on the bottom side. I took it back out today and tried some long range stuff. I managed to knock down a few of the 500 yd silhouettes before the $25 mount holding the $65 scope was rattling around so much I didn't think it was worth wasting the ammo. Though it doesn't have many round though it, I've had no feeding or ejection issues. The factory mags work fine. I really, really like this rifle! Just gotta get serious about putting a decent optic\mount on it.
  10. Looks good. My brother and I are doing some budget builds as well. Somehow we've convinced ourselves we don't have enough guns already. ;). We're building them on the inexpensive New Frontier polymer lowers and using DS Arms uppers. They'll come in at less than $500 but will be nothing fancy.
  11. Cool, so you have probably talked with him. He's a great guy and will help anyone. He's got a couple of his "race" Glocks for sale on our OSA forum now. They were built by Accurate Iron (Mike Cyrus) out of Jones, OK. Mike does some incredible 1911 work as well. Looking forward to hearing about your upper!
  12. The video on the page for the upper shows Jesse Tischauser who is on Team Stag. He's a fellow Okie and is active on my "home" forum OKShooters.com. I could put you in touch with him easy enough. I'm sure he could answer about anything concerning that upper.
  13. I suspect we'll see a lot more of this, unfortunately. Companies are trying to get under the "magic number" with the new Affordable <laughs> Healthcare Act.
  14. Cool! Plainfields were decent and compatible with USGI parts. It's a shame all the surplus ammo is gone. Man, am I glad I live in Oklahoma...
  15. Huge sucker for the small ring Swedes checking in! I have M94, M38, and M96 Swedes. Having said that, a large ring Mauser action will allow the builder to complete a rifle in more calibers than the small ring action would. There are some decent Turk actions still out there but one would have to carefully check everything before using one to build a custom rifle. The Turks weren't exactly known for careful maintenance on their weapons. In addition, a Turk is a bit of an oddball in the Mauser world since it is a large ring action but takes barrels threaded for small rings. At one time I was all amped to build a custom rifle but the cost gets up there pretty quickly as there can be a lot of gunsmith time involved.
  16. Sounds like it's already customized but the milsurp fan in me has to ask: Is it USGI or one of the clones?
  17. Yeah that's all too common, unfortunately. My ex and I are the exception to the rule. We're great friends and we worked out the divorce all on our own without paying a cent to any lawyers. We made about the same salary when we decided we were done so there's no alimony or child support, etc. We split the cost of kid expenses as well as custody. They're with me for a week then with her for a week. I consider myself pretty damned lucky!
  18. I'm divorced and buy myself Christmas presents all year long. ;)
  19. Yep, and some countries (like Australia) imported a factory street legal CR500!
  20. This isn't a great picture but here's my 5.56 AR. It's nothing really pimped but it's a Colt LE6920 with the "restricted" engraving. It has Magpul MOE stuff on it and an Aimpoint CompML2. The rear site is a DPMS Mangonel.
  21. I'll have to live vicariously though you guys!
  22. Now that's my kind of fundraiser!
  23. I'm no expert but I would think that if the rifle had an estimated 700 round count the rough chamber would have smoothed out on its own. As far as the extractor breaking I suspect the cause to be metal fatigue under pressure. I am curious about it though since I have the same parts in mine with the same carbine gas system.
  24. Back from the range. I used Edgecrusher's method: cleaned after each of the first 3 rounds then shot a group of 5 followed by a cleaning. Then ran the rest of the mag. The sad part is that I only got to run one mag through the thing today before running out of daylight. I spent most of my range time fiddling with getting the Aimpoint on my 5.56 AR sighted in. Bummed about it now since I'd rather be back out there messing with the big dog. The scope I have mounted on it is hideously cheap but I got it sorta sighted in during my break-in process. It won't matter much since that thing won't be staying on it. I'll be in the market for some better glass. Here's the beast at the range. Nothing to see here but here's a group fired during the break-in\sight-in process.
