  1. on their site, 308 is an option for caliber in the upper (with a $200 upcharge, ouch)
  2. mine was south African surplus :) but same crap. I had to tumble it before shooting to get some of the corrosion off as the first few jammed from it :)
  3. safety selector? the BADASS with the crank handles is awesome http://www.battlearmsdevelopment.com/badass.php
  4. Yep, it still is :)
  5. That's not exactly normal (although not entirely crazy either) but it doesn't seem like its something that would cause what you have happening. Beyond that though, I have no ideas for help.
  6. I believe the correct phrase is "I'd let her take a crap on my face just to get my mouth that close to her female cat"
  7. I'll have to see if I can find it for sale someplace that has a 30 day no hassle return policy. At least if it sucks that bad then I can just send it back quick.
  8. Actually I think I figured out the real manufacturer, Sightmark http://www.sightmark.com/sm13024.html can get them for right about $400 on other sites. Still hard to believe for 3-30x magnification. But it seems like it really is a 1-3 that also has an internal flip in 10x that takes it to 10-20-30x . at least that's the way the description sort of reads. If it really is a smooth flow from 3-30, I think I will cough up the $400 to try it. Well, when I have $400 that is :)
  9. Looking at ebay for optics ideas, I came across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Visionking-3-30x56-Rifle-Scope-High-Shock-Resistant-3000-G-New-Gift-for-you-/261136587170?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item3cccf419a2 3-30x variable magnification? that sounds spectacular on top of a 308, but I find it hard to believe too.
  10. the funny thing is my crappy sub $100 3-9x50 Chinese scope looks better than my beat up old Weaver.
  11. Yeah, i'm still saving up to have optics that cost more than the bolt carrier group on any of my rifles :P
  12. I'm jealous of you on the Lapua :)
  13. no, my primary range only goes to 100. It sucks, a bunch of friends went to the only range in Florida that goes out to 1000, but I couldn't make it that day. eventually i'll hit that one up, at least on the 400 yard range. I do plan to buy a chronograph eventually too since I am starting reloading the rifle cartridges. up till now I've only reloaded for pistol.
  14. With a Rainier select 20" barrel, I was just about hitting MOA groups at 100 yards with 40+ year old south African surplus 146gr ammo, and I was getting close to 1/2 MOA with nice 168gr match ammo. So i'd say they are pretty decent if the blanks are Black Hole Weaponry
  15. its not necessary, but can cut recoil some and also keep the BCG a little cleaner by cutting down on the amount of gas that gets recycled back via the gas block/tube. The downside is that depending on the gas block and handguard you choose, you may or may not be able to reach the adjusting screw without drilling the handguard. the other slight downside is that if you tune it to just barely work with one specific ammo, you might get failure to ejects with a different ammo. but its not a big deal, unless you are shooting wildly different ammo its probably ok.
  16. 392
  17. their nipples could probably cut glass at that point, just sayin. Merry Christmas to you all!
  18. a red dot alone is easily good to 50, with a magnifier, 100 yards isn't bad. Get good QD mounts if you're going that way, at least for the scope. On the red dots, you're a little more "stuck" with whats on the red dot unless you get into the high dollar stuff. There are a bunch of different worthwhile QD mounts, my preference is the Warne Optima series, as they work well, return to 0 perfectly, and can be had in the $50-$75 range.
  19. The problem with this is that what will work optimally for 1000 yards target shooting will likely suck totally hunting at 60 yards.
  20. I don't get the ding, but frequently get the neck bend in, and all sorts of scratches, and I'm not getting FTFs using 40+ year old surplus 7.62 ammo.
  21. it doesn't impact barrel choice at all, but will impact your wallet if you're trying to get to 1000 yards reasonably accurately. You're going to have to try a pretty fair amount of different ammos to find what your rifle "likes" at the longer ranges. well, and crap, I guess it does make a little difference. The only difference in barrel choice that is relevant to ammo is twist rate, and that is based on what weight ammo you'll usually be shooting
  22. sharp!
  23. I got to use a lathe setup with these at Greenfield Village. It's part of the Ford museum in Michigan
  24. barrel should be 18 or 20 for that, 16 would be a pain to compensate for drop i'd think. Glass? Nightforce is pretty sweet for that long distance work http://nightforceoptics.com/nxs/5-5-22x56-nxs-riflescope/ 20 moa mount, the la rue is pretty sweet, the warne RAMP is too.
  25. condolences for your state of residence, and welcome from Florida
