  1. well, as of now I have a troy MRF-308 13.8" in FDE ordered since my damned barrel to gas block is only 11 3/4 inches instead of 12 and I can't use the delta pack + front cap + cheap UTG rails I bought.
  2. all dpms. I think I'm just going to get the troy free floating rail and be done
  3. the handguard measures 12" end to end, so apparently somehow the length from barrel nut to gas block is the problem. yay.
  4. I assembled (not in a vise, just hand tight) the barrel nut with delta ring on, and put the end cap + gas block on and did a test fit of the handguards. I got the UTG quadrail 2 piece since the price was right. Seems like its somewhere between 1/8 + 1/4 an inch too long to be able to work and i'm not sure what to do. I loosened the gas block, slid the end cap forwards and got it to work, but of course the gas block isn't lining up with the barrel hole anymore. Any ideas?
  5. it only affects the stock itself, and the spring/buffer. end plate + castle nut are the same. yes, you'll need both spring + buffer. Which isn't bad, it should be easy to resell the tube/spring/buffer/stock as a package if you decide to change to a carbine.
  6. The gas system has nothing to do with the buffer length. But you will be limited to only rifle stocks in the future and won't be able to mount an adjustable carbine style without changing the buffer tube (which isn't that big of a deal anyhow)
  7. But my buttstock was only available in black. I still haven't picked up an FDE pistol grip yet either, so I may start off with the black one that came in the lpk
  8. Man you aren't kidding. I did it in the garage with all doors open, and it still was rough. Turned out good though!
  9. I've got a bunch of brake cleaner, and I bought the kit with the regular 2 component duracoat and preval sprayer. removed the forward assist + ejector plate, put the gas block + compensator on the barrel + set up a jig so I can rotate the barrel to get all sides, set up a little holder for the buffer tube + forward assist, masked everything with painters tape for easy removal. Any other tips? I'm in Florida, so the temp is around 70 now, probably be around that or a hair warmer when I go to spray.
  10. wait, high powered? How many rile calibers are lower powered other than 22lr + .17hmr ?
  11. Looks like I picked a bad week to give up sniffing glue
  12. I wonder if the new LR mags will be available on this offering
  13. i advise you stop calling. next time it will be 12 weeks :D
  14. Your next tough to find part will be the ejection port pin (the spring & cover are easy) if you can't find one, lemee know, I have a spare I think
  15. well, at least as of the second I clicked on it... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/663147/?from=pan&cm_mmc=S_Spop-Email-_-Service_Emails-_-ProdArrival-_-ProductLink
  16. And the upper gets delivered Tuesday, the BCG probably will ship end of next week. The lower will be the long wait still, since its not quite slated for manufacturing till later this month. This is what I ended up with buttstock wise, which was the last of the small parts I needed. seemed interesting, the Mako GL Shock with a built in recoil reducer. Wasn't too expensive so we'll see how it shoots + resell it on ebay if it doesn't work out.
  17. well, fyi someone is selling a bolt carrier group here on the board http://308ar.com/forum/for-sale-or-trade/wts-dpms-lr-308-complete-bolt-carrier-assembly/ and that right now is probably harder to find than a lower even.
  18. I'm just shocked it hasn't been sold yet. I'd buy it myself if the harris tactical nickel boron coated one wasn't only a couple weeks from shipping
  19. whats the reason for not keeping the 26" barrel?
  20. I had considered doing that too when I started :D but even though she's ex military, she's not such a big fan of rifle shooting. She's more than happy to hit the range with pistols though.
  21. on their wife to make up for how much they spent building a 308 AR? I just had to buy my wife a new pool cue....
  22. I'd say find a friend who is law enforcement or military, or lives in Colorado to order magpul 308s, sell the FAL mags on GB, and build a dpms based 308 instead. Staying under $2000 is going to take some really tight cautious purchasing and some time. With RRA, there are a few parts that are not compatible with the mass of DPMS based stuff out there, which isn't an all bad thing in and of itself, but honestly my gut feeling is that for a RRA i'd rather buy the full rifle from them than build one from parts.
