The victims of black serial murderers almost always are other blacks, who most often live in the poorest inner city neighborhoods where the murder rates are far higher than in middle-class suburbs. Because black on black violence is so entrenched and pervasive, it is far too often considered routine, and police are often more lax in their attitudes toward the violence than if the victims were white. This makes it much easier for black serial murders to go undetected for far longer times. Two studies on serial killers that specifically looked at the race of the killers found that blacks make up about 15 percent of America's rogue's gallery of mass murderers. --Serial Killing Is No Longer A White Folks Thing - AlterNet - October 30, 2002 http://www.alternet.org/story/14431/serial_killing_is_no_longer_a_white_folks_thing/

I think you're probably right. The dovetail at the top of the sight pedestal is supposed to be "the standard" dovetail, except that it measures .55" and most "standard" sight dovetails are 3/8" except that the only "standard" 3/8 sight dovetails I'm aware of are Ruger 10/22, Browning Hi-Power, and Desert Eagle. When it comes to the "standard" 0.55" dovetail, I've only seen globe sights on them -- Lyman. Although I think Anschutz also has a globe sight that fits. Although, "only good for globe sights" is slightly misleading. If you get the Lee Shaver set of inserts/reticles, it's like having an assortment of ten different sights of three types: crosshair, aperture, and post.

White guy killer syndrome: Elliot Rodger’s deadly, privileged rage - Salon - May 27, 2014 http://www.salon.com/2014/05/27/white_guy_killer_syndrome_elliot_rodgers_deadly_privileged_rage/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialflow [excerpts] Black men are not rolling onto college campuses and into movie theaters on a regular basis to shoot large numbers of people. Usually, the young men who do that are white, male, heterosexual and middle-class. This sense of heterosexual white male entitlement to a world that grants all one’s wishes, and this destructive murderous anger that attends the ostensible denial of these wishes, is at the emotional core of white supremacy. But because we don’t have a fundamentally honest societal conversation happening about white male privilege, rooted as it is in sexism and racism, we can’t even observe one of the most basic truths here: What Rodger perceived as a denial was at the very worst a delay. Our society is fundamentally premised on making sure that straight, middle-class (upper class in Rodger’s case) white men have access to power, money and women.

I'm not quite sure I follow you, but the sight pedestal has a 0.55" wide dovetail on top, and I don't think a MRDS would clamp onto that.

What's overcomplicated about having, basically, a standard set of sights on an AR-type rifle? It's merely difficult and unreasonably expensive. :))

'Scouring ashtrays' -- is that grabbing cigarette butts? Since WWII that's been known as one of the most effective routes for spreading tuberculosis. And now that we have drug-resistant TB, people doing that could make them the worst disease vectors we've seen in modern history. In the early 1900s, the Spanish flu killed an estimated 50 million to 100 million people around the world. Drug-resistant TB could easily kill that many, or many more than that.

CNN "More Gun Laws?" Poll
gnatshooter replied to planeflyer21's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
The page isn't loading for me and I can't get in. Judging by the numbers, it seems people like the idea of being to defend themselves against a college guy who's been driven insane because he can't get any lipstick on his dipstick. Plausible scenario. -
I guess this means that the woman I'm talking about is uglier than any you've ever seen before. I've never seen one that bad at any other time, anywhere else, in my entire life.
-
Actually, she was slender, and perhaps a bit taller than most women. Her breasts, though not outstanding, were enough to gain the attention of even the blindest drunk. But she was, as my dad would have said in WWII Marine-speak, "hatchet-faced'. He never explained the saying to me, but looking at her was like taking repeated blows to your face with a hatchet. Or maybe, like someone had taken a hatchet to her face, but I could see no trace of wounds or scars. Her face was simply so malformed that even the drunkest cretin who had recently been released from the men's penitentiary for multiple rape would have passed her by. There is a saying, "a face only a mother could love", and, well, that really didn't apply either. Which might well help explain waving a six-pack at 2:28 am outside the drunkest bar within reach of radar.

This brings me to the truly saddest thing I have ever seen in my life. At the university, all the local bars lined a nearby street -- not far from campus, or the dorms with their many beds. Of all the bars on the street, this one bar had a "permanent malfunction" with its clock and was always the last to close and let out the customers. Who were of course quite wasted, having been closed out of all the other bars there. And the bar did another thing -- in violation of State law, but they got away with it. They would sell a complete six-pack of beer to a customer for take-out. Okay, that's the background. Now back in the day, when I frequented this block quite a bit, there was this female person. Can I say this politely? No, I cannot. She was, quite simply and very obviously, ugly. She was of the same age as the students in the bars, as far as I could tell. And on this hot evening of a night in spring, at the closing of the last bar on the street to close, and surrounded by the drunkest losers of the horniest remaining males, she stood by the door of the bar when it finally closed. Waving a six-pack of beer, making it obvious that she could provide some more fun after closing time. Every one of the drunkest losers of the horniest remaining males walked past her, as though she wasn't there. Finally, she walked home with her beer, alone. As far as I know, she did not have a gun. Or at least, didn't use it on anyone. Edit: "God has a very big heart, but there is one sin He will not forgive. I've heard it said, and have never found the cite for it -- but I believe it. Page for page, the United States has more laws on the books than any other nation on Earth.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
gnatshooter replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
...while simultaneously avoiding the sense of guilt that comes from being part of the problem behind the ammunition shortage, of course. If that happens, just tell yourself that you're getting it in order to keep it out of government hands. -
Gen. William Westmoreland, testifying before President Nixon’s Commission on an All-Volunteer [Military] Force, denounced the idea of phasing out the draft and putting only volunteers in uniform, saying that he did not want to command “an army of mercenaries.” Friedman, a member of the 15-person commission, interrupted him. “General,” Friedman asked, “would you rather command an army of slaves?” http://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/slave-army/

The gun-grabbers would say that this advocates capital punishment for mental illness, without a judge or jury. Some people cannot be reasoned with. Speaking of punishment for mental illness, I have to wonder how many people who, in the past, would be in mental institutions are in prisons instead. It could possibly be quite a few of them, especially since the US has a greater percentage of its population in prison than any other country. Perhaps quite a few mentally ill are now going to one institution, rather than another. I've read several times in news articles of sheriffs complaining that one of the biggest unmet needs of jails is mental health care because so many inmates are clearly insane.

Here you go! It's a series of three pix showing the pedestal mounted on the gas block: one with the entire rifle, one with the forward half of the rifle, and one closeup of the pedestal on the block. Just click on the thumbnails to expand to full size. Hope this helps! Edit: A note about pic #2. Do you see that globe sight sitting on top of the Lipski Competition Barrel Band that's right behind the muzzle? That tubular thingie that sits up there? That's what used to sit on top of the Sight Pedestal I'm selling. You can tell from the pic that I could have kept the Sight Pedestal on the gas block -- but I was not happy with the short sight radius. Note the location of the rear sight, which you can see in pic #1. People using peeper sights will mount the rear sight further back and would likely be happy with the sight radius they get with a mount on a railed gas block.
-
Great idea, I'll get right on it!
-
True enough, but with this thang people won't have to drill holes in their handguard with adjusting the gas block. And access is easy enough, you drop the bolt carrier group for cleaning anyhow, piece of cake.

I would appreciate seeing a link for that. It would be awesome.

This might be cheap labor, but we need to take it seriously. With China's "one child per family" policy, and their people aborting female babies, China has a vast oversupply of males. Historically, countries with an oversupply of males turns to military adventurism. So their ammunition might be crap, and their guided missles might be crapola, but they could still launch one helluva war with a lot of expendable guys. But them trying to do a war when they're totally dependent on imports of corn and soy -- who knows? They're a frigging communist dictatorship. They act like capitalists, but the rules still come from the top. They could kick our ass in the Pacific and still have lots of leftovers. And Japan, who they hate, would go on starvation rations. And then the US would run out of iPads and iPods and iCrap.

Friends, I'm offering for sale an interesting piece of tech. It's part of the "JP Enterprises Detachable Front Sight Base AR-15 with Lyman Globe Sight and 10 Shaver Sight Inserts" that you can find at Midway for $147.99. By itself, the Lyman #93 globe front sight is worth $69.95. The Lee Shaver inserts/reticles, which I highly recommend, are worth $20.95. Now, if I did the math right, that makes this "Sight Pedestal" (what I would call it) worth $57.09. Here's a pic. The device is held level by my Buck lock-blade pocket knife, which is not included. (I could tell you a story about British airport security and lock-blade knives, but not now.) Anyhow, why would I buy this in the first place? Well, I was looking for something that I could mount on the barrel of the rifle that would be compatible with my rear sight. I did that by mounting this on top of this barrel block: Well, the result was pretty kloogy. By accident, I found a Lipski Competition Barrel Band and put the Lyman #93 globe sight on that. When I the rest of my problems were solved. Finally. Geesh. Am I boring you? So anyhow, all of that left me with this really clever Sight Pedestal. Why would you want to buy it? There's lots of reasons. One is that, if you go and get the globe sight and inserts/reticles, you can "dial in" exactly what height you want. The range of adjustment is so wide that you can have nearly any combination of receiver rail height and gas block height. And you can dial in nearly any amount of elevation you want your iron sights to have. And of course -- for me, this is a big bonus -- you can get nearly any sight picture you want, using those Lee Shaver globe sight inserts/reticles. And on top of that, the unit looks really snarky. And if you want an extra endorsement, JP Enterprises sells the complete assembly, and they don't sell crap. At least, I don't think so. So anyhow, after all this explanation, which has likely used up your last bit of patience, you can have this Sight Pedestal for your very own, for $30. I'll cover shipping, and the rest of the fun will be all yours.

Here's a valid military/criminal connection that's not getting much attention: gang members in the service. But the question still is: is criminal veterans a real issue, or just invented by people who want MRAPS? Soldier Living Double Life As Gang Member - News Channel 3 - May 15, 2014 http://wreg.com/2014/04/27/wreg-finds-soldier-living-double-life-as-gang-member/ “Think of things in the war time of the things many people in the military are doing. They have rifles up and they and several of their colleagues are kicking down doors and telling people to get down or ordering them around in another way. Reminiscent of a bank robbery, right. It is also reminiscent of a home invasion,” said Smith.
