  1. Welcome from AZ!

  3. LOL... reminds me of my military days. Had to strip/reassemble everything from an M16... M240's... all the way up to an M2 Browning. I still remember being able to field strip and reassemble the 84mm Carl Gustav (aka M3 MAAWS) under 30 seconds.
  4. video no worky. -S
  5. I'm happy with my CMMG MK3. Bought new about a month ago, had some very minor issues (wrong bolt catch) but that was quickly rectified by CMMG sending me the correct one. Other than that it's running like clockwork over 350+ rounds. No jams/FTE/FTF's at all. No real signs of being overgassed either - shell casings land reliably 6-10' away at 4-5 o'clock. I'm getting pretty decent sub-MOA groups so I guess they've fixed the issues with their earlier 308's. -S
  6. Nice camo job bubb! How high are your rings?
  7. The Nikon mount is 1" while the Vortex is 30mm so that's useless. My other options are: 1. 20moa riser with regular 30mm rings (like the Badger 22moa riser) 2. Burris Signature Zee mounts. 3. Shimming a one-piece mount like the PEPR 4. Make my own one-piece mount (but I'm a lazy ass bitch so the other options seem more attractive to me. LOL) I'm not saying that the Nikon M-308 is a bad scope..... in fact I'm reasonably happy with it, but I'm finding that the Nikon is pretty picky about getting the correct eye relief/eye positioning at 16x or I get the black tube effect. Other thing is the reticle, since I was trained to range using mil dots. Not being able to range using the BDC800 is a little annoying. Perhaps it's just me being out of it for so long and I simply have to re-learn a new setup so my head/eye/face positioning is more consistent. -S
  8. Hi from AZ!
  9. I'd be concerned about the "low profile" upper, especially if you already have the Troy. The lo-pro rail will be 1/16" lower if troy (that you may or may not have) is a standard one. The "lo-pro" uppers are devil spawn and perhaps become the next non-standard part that will throw a wrench in the works in the not too distant future....but that's just my opinion. -S [EDIT] oh nevermind... just read that you were tossing out the stock handguard....
  10. ....another one for mountain biking.... hmm... perhaps I could combine shooting and mtn biking....
  11. My eventual goal is 500-1000 yards.... I figure that I should at least be a decent shot just in case "all hell breaks loose". LOL
  12. I have a Nikon M-308 (BDC 800 reticle) on my MK3. It's about a month old and I'm thinking of returning it (while I still can) and getting a Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP EBR1 MRAD instead. One of the biggest reasons I'm flip flopping on this is the limited availability of any affordable 20-MOA mount in 30mm -- and therefore I was considering shimming a regular 30mm mount like a Burris PEPR. I'm mostly doing target shooting and polishing up on my rusty marksmanship skills. Keep it or exchange? I'm open to your thoughts/suggestions. -S
  13. I can't take credit for that because I did not serve in the US military.... but I did have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best US operators back in Desert Storm. Much props! Yep... been sinking quite a bit of money in this new pit... -S
  14. Hi fellow AZ noob. :) Yup - that's basically what I did too. They had a good choice at Cabelas (everywhere else in AZ was backordered) and I ended up picking the CMMG MK3. -S
  15. This is my "work". Pic was from earlier in the year when we were going 24x7 non-stop. July came and everything died. Like you guys, we're hoping is a blip too.
  16. Here's mine. The three-shot group was a cold barrel group at 100 yds after zeroing with 168gr FGMM HPBT rounds. The other two were Hornady American Whitetail 150gr. Somehow couldn't get consistent results with the Hornadys - they were all over the place. That's what I get for being cheap. LOL -S
  17. Thanks everyone! I guess I chose the "right place" to participate - everyone's super friendly... unlike some ot the larger forums. :)
  18. ...just been lurking a while......
  19. I swapped the CAR length buffer on my CMMG MK3 to a rifle length "A2" buffer tube so that I could put on the Magpul PRS stock. I used a standard DPMS 308 sized buffer and the matching spring in order for everything to work properly. The recoil has definitely been reduced a good amount, and my next project will be to make a heavy buffer and compensator for it. -S
  20. Phoenix "metro" area -- far southeast valley in Queen Creek.
  21. Hi everyone. After 20 years away from the military, I decided to pick up shooting again, primarily focused on marksmanship/targeting. Picked up a CMMG Mk3 (new) 18" SST barrel about 4 weeks ago and so far it's been working like clockwork, and I've since put in over 200 rounds with zero jams/FTE/FTF etc. It wasn't completely smooth sailing out of the box though. They had installed an incorrect bolt catch but CMMG quickly remedied the situation by sending me a replacement bolt catch, no questions asked. I found some problems with ProMag steel mags where the bolt would catch on the plastic follower with the last round in the mag. That was easily resolved by putting in a bead of hot glue on the follower to better seat the last round. Magpul 20LR pmags work flawlessly but are impossible to find these days. At the range, I'm averaging 0.8"-1" groupings (5 rounds) but that figure goes up and down depending on how "tired" I am. Guess I'll need a lot more practice to get back to my old form.... maybe I'm just getting too old....LOL. I do own/run a CNC machine shop and it's likely I'll be making parts for it sooner or later.... Here's the baby. ....and the baby now: -S
