Scottsdale Gun Club. Google it ... it should come right up. -S

Welcome fellow desert dweller. -S

Sounds like a good budget option for a plinker. Would you mind sharing your source? Thanks! -S

I think the heaviest commercially available ones are 10oz (from heavybuffers). If it's too heavy, the bolt carrier may not cycle backwards fully and may lead to a FTE/FTF or the bolt catch won't catch properly (i.e. on the bolt face). Next project - Muzzle brake. (Feds won't allow me to make a suppressor until I can get the SOT stamp...) -S

Norcal - Fremont area. Asians and Afghans. Little Afghanistan was about 3 miles away. Go figure. I still remember the Berkeley City Council passing an ordnance to remove all US flags that the firefighters hung on their fire trucks. #^$@%#$ foreigners and hippies. Ignored that Chinese neighbor regarding the flag, and the other guy across the street (he was middle eastern or maybe paki) - never figured out why but he was taken away very quickly. They left his wife alone. Although I lean left, all of that crap was a big sign for me to move back to AZ. -S

...woken up by my wife. I had quit my job the friday before and was doing some road racing at Sears Point that weekend, so i was sleeping in. We were living in norcal then. She was yelling something about getting attacked and we have to pack up and prep to go. Walked out of the bedroom, looked downstairs at the TV with CNN on and saw the images. My first words that morning were... "Osama's baaaack". Over the next few weeks, I was told that the US flag in front of my house was unsightly and should be taken down, black SUVs were patrolling the neighborhood at night, and the house across from us was raided by some spec ops. The rest is history.

Yep... gonna try with several weights to see what works best in my MK3. -S

Dang... forgot about Obama's schpiel while I was making the buffer. Did I miss anything? -S

Had some time to kill today so started to make my own heavy buffer out of some SS bars I had lying around..... ....completed machining. Finally stuck in some tungsten carbide blanks off my shop floor and it all came to 12oz. Put it in the 308 and looks like it fits properly, and everything works just from hand cycling. Can't wait to take it to the range for a test. I'll definitely post a test report.

We're all "new" at some point or other when picking up something we've never done before, but a wise person will learn from the mistakes and advice of others. :) BTW, Remember to oil the entire bolt carrier group well (WET!). It really helps with a new AR-style gun as the parts aren't broken in yet. -S

Thanks for your kind wishes. It's definitely not an easy job but we do what we can to help out whenever possible. -S

Tried doing the same but got poo-poo'ed. Guess I'll have to wait for it to hit HBO or Blu-Ray/DVD. :( -S

I would call this industry news!

Yup, there's a good chunk of the population that does not understand how internet justice works. Remember the douchebags at Amy's Baking Company? -S -

shibiwan replied to ZOG's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Unfortunately that's true. Lots of douchebags in town. Almost everyone in town that I know who is into guns is aware of the lawsuit. I'm not surprised that it's already at 31 pages. -S -
The bolt gas key should fit in the gas tube with minimal resistance. There's a possibility that your gas tube is bent. Yes, as the bolt carrier moves forward, the bolt rotates as the bolt cam pin rides in the angled slot in the bolt carrier (under the gas key). There should be a little extra "resistance" as the bolt carrier group moves in the final 1/2" or so. Try this -- remove the entire BCG, then pull the bolt out. Next push the bolt into the bolt carrier and you'll see it rotate as it gets pushed in. Pull it out and it rotates the opposite direction. -S

All I can say is "Wow!" It's bad for business IMO. It could potentially ruin the company, unfortunately it doesn't look like the plaintiffs understand the ramifications of such lawsuits. Gonna grab some popcorn and watch what happens next.... -
What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

Vortex Viper spotting scope.... -
That explains the 3/4" difference between the length of the AR15 carbine buffer vs the DPMS style 308 carbine buffer. :)
-
I measured the extra (takeoff) 308 carbine spring and buffer extension tube. These are "known good" parts that I took off when I put on my PRS stock on my 308. The 308 carbine spring is about 11" long (uncompressed) and the mil-spec AR15 carbine tube is 7.25" long (total length, including the threaded part). The 308 DPMS style buffer should be around 3/4" shorter than the AR15 buffer. Mark the bottom of the rubber tip of the buffer with a marker or something similar (grease pencil? paint marker? paint? correction fluid? chalk?), assemble the buffer, pull the charging handle fully. Release and remove the buffer. If the mark you made at the bottom end of the buffer did not rub off (slightly) then the buffer isn't touching the base of the buffer tube, which implies the spring is too long and it's binding when it is fully compressed. At full compression, the buffer should still be able to extend beyond the spring and touch the end of the extension tube. You should be able to indentify what the issue is (i.e. spring or buffer) with this test. -S

Upgrading to Ultegra Di2 Shifters On My Synapse
shibiwan replied to imschur's topic in Outdoor Activities
Nice score, but I'm not a big fan of the Di2. Then again with your condition it may be perfect for you. I personally prefer going with SRAM's (Red) on my roadie and SRAM X0/XX (2x10) on my MTB. The longer cable pull of the SRAMs seem to make them shift better than the Shimanos. -
...which raises the question..... if the market is so saturated, why aren't they looking at expanding into .308 markets? Magpul 20LR's are the only reliable ones and they have literally vanished from the store shelves. That should be an incentive for CAA or whatever/whoever is making AR15 mags to get into the .308 game. *still scratching head* -S
