  1. Wow. Sweet build. I got some SI receivers and am looking at doing a similar build. What are the specs on that barrel? (Twist, rifling, contour, materials) Congrats! DRD
  2. Here is a great comparison chart: http://blogs.militarytimes.com/gearscout/2012/07/27/21-ar-grips-compared/
  3. I like the Bravo Company Mod 1 or 3 and Umbrella Corp Grip 23. All three are more vertical, less angled, and easier on the wrist bio-mechanically (especially offhand, at the ready, or in CQ with a compressed stock)
  4. It seems that getting a heavy buffer, normal weight BCG, AND having an adjustable gas block would give you the best options (along with switching between muzzle brake and suppressor), no?
  5. What make are the 9mm or .45 uppers?
  6. Unforgiven, do you mean this one: Bushnell Elite Tactical HDMR 3.5-21x50 ? I heard it's a great scope, quite popular in competition as seen here: http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/12/22/best-rifle-scope-what-the-pros-use/ I did read somewhere that the turrets weren't so hot and click/marking alignment was off. You know anything about that? Bubbasks, Are you getting a Steiner? They look great. The MSR caught my eye too, but I would like a clear holdover christmas tree on the bottom. Plus, just like S&Bs P4F reticle, I can't stand how the center cross hairs are not the same size as the mil hashmarks above/below and on the side of it. (Center cross hairs are 1 mil, hash along sides are .5 mils) Just confusing to my eye when measuring/miling objects. I wish March made a reticle like a mix between H59 and Vortex's EBR-2C...or if Vortex would just make their scopes lighter! Do you know if any of the aforementioned companies, along with Khales, NF, USO, Primier, Bushnell make custom reticles?
  7. So many choices.... Literally, it seems to be the deal-maker/breaker for many great scopes out there on the market. What do you guys use at longer ranges (600-1000K+)? What magnification do you prefer at extended ranges? What reticles have you had the most success with for ranging and follow up shots? I'm fascinated with the Horus H59, but like Vortex's EBR-2 bette. It's clearner, sitll has 'cross-hairs', and I can't see what the Horus does that the EBR-2(B/C) can't. There are so many great optics (opticsthoughts.com & snipercenteral.com do some great reviews). Many seem to have the "whole package", like good glass durability, parallax adj., good eye relief, clarity/focus, zero stop, Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA reticle/turrets, good FOV, zoom, etc. It'll have all that, but crappy reticles, or a reticle that pales next to one in an optic without all the previously mentioned points. Example would be the FML-1 reticle in March's 3-24x52 FFP. Great scope, not so great reticle. Or Vortex's Hd Gen II 3-18x50 - got all of the above, but it weight 2.1 pounds! Bottom line: what's you favorite reticle? What's your preferred magnification? Which optic do you feel has the best combo/compromise of all the features you like? What are your picks (reasonable, and $$Dream$$ optic)? DRD
  8. Forget i asked...i dont wanna know. Lol Anyone run 9mm uppers?
  9. how are you gonna build an sbr in cali?
  10. Good point. Really, it shouldn't be all that hard right? All that's needed is a 5.7 mag that would fit into the AR15 magwell, right?
  11. I've heard about some QC issues with the AR57. No hard stories, though. Still looks fun. Very curious about the piston. Heard good things about AA.
  12. Yeah, I looked at 300 blackout. I've heard it runs really well suppressed. I don't quite understand it's appeal though. What is it supposed to do that 5.56 doesn't?
  13. I've got one of those darn sad & lonely lowers, just crying for company. It's an Areo Precision. It will be getting a ALG ACT trigger, ambi selector, Umbrella 23, BCM mod 1 or 3 grip, and M4 stock. But,...it needs an upper. I've already got a DI in 5.56, but was thinking either piston, or another caliber all together. So, I've narrowed it down to these: http://www.huldraarms.com/uppers/product_96b0941ad4da/ Made by Adams Arms Already have everything else that is compatible from my other 5.56 Only need to add sights/optics (Thinking Troy HK-style with a Primary Arms Micro) OR: http://www.57center.com/6m8/ar57-upper-assembly.html Just looks fun Cool to have another caliber 5.7 cost about the same as 5.56 This would just be to have 'another' upper. Could be used for tactical training, plinking or just plain fun at the range. Both uppers would wind up costing about the same. I'm open to other ideas, but want to keep the cost down. If anyone has had any experience with either of these (or similar), I'd love to hear the pros/cons. Cheers, DRD
  14. That's called "tactical culinary strategery" :))
  15. http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/149f/?cpg=58340520&msg_id=58340520&et_rid=1098450155&linkid=58340520_image_149F Too tacticool, it just rocks.
  16. Awesome, thanks FaRKle
  17. Anyone running a 14.5" or 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system in .308? If so: 1. What buffer do you use? 2. What buffer would work best for a retractable stock? 3. Will using heavy buffers increase of decrease reliability of cycling with these length gas/barrel combos? 4. Best options for muzzle devices at this length and any other suggestions to control the barrel with this short a length? 5. I think LaRue makes the PredetOBR in a pretty short length -any idea what buffers they run? Thanks
  18. This sounds great...I'm looking forward to seeing what you discover. Has anyone had any experience with the GoGun Supercomp? http://store.gogunusa.com/SuperComp-XL-Brake-762-X-51-308-5-8X24TPI-Parkzd-Steel-SCXL-308-762x51-ST-PZ-109.htm;jsessionid=384D8D970A130EED6DA6103AB4B90DFC.m1plqscsfapp04 I'm especially curious to see how the Griffin Flash Comp performs. It got a great review on militarymorons
  19. EasyEJL, That's awesome! I'd be curious to find out what the muzzle speed is on your 20". Ever take it out further? DRD
  20. Is that a mid or rifle length gas system, and what gas block are you running?
  21. Looking forward to the comparison. Will you be able to test them side by side beyond 600 yards?
  22. What are the specs on your 20" HB build?
  23. George, can you give details of your build with the BHW barrel?
  24. Crusader Weaponry uses BHW barrels on their builds with lots of good range reports. Rainier uses them for their Select barrels. That's all I know.
