  1. You may consider going with an adjustable gas block as that will reduce recoil which helps stay on target and reduces wear and tear on your bcg, ship the kns pins not needed, IMO. Also you may want to consider a two stage trigger. I have a giessle ssa and gs2 they are very smooth. good luck with your build
  2. I do not know about the heavy metal class. Regarding supply's: I resize the .243 cartridge which is readily available, which is less expensive than the .260 cartridge. the 6.5mm bullets are also in goody supply. There are also a number of powders that give decent groups. You may want to check out Rainer, they may have something in the .308 that you are looking for. Good luck in your build
  3. perhaps off topic, but have you considered a .260 remingtion? some sites sell barrels with headspaced bolts.
  4. At first I was thinking about 1000 yards but have reduced my expectations down to 800 yards as I have since ordered parts for a 260 remington bolt action build. 8 days to pick up. (waiting period left, thanks to Kommifornia law) The creedmoor sounds life a good round and I may just do that also. Thanks for the reply
  5. No I have not shot it yet. The nut has been partially up graded, total shoulder joint replacement, total knee replacement ,and the latest, lower back disk replacement with a couple of rods for dessert. (all less in the past two years) Perhaps a Lobotomy is in order. :auto:
  6. I am still working on the ar platorms I have, but I switched gears and ordered parts for a savage 260 Remington bolt action build.
  7. I installed the ctr magpul kit on my 308. I have only test fired it with two single rounds manually chambered. It shot fine but will I have issues when fed in semi-auto?
  8. what about breakin for SS barrels? Is it the same?
  9. My barrel is free floating and is knurled with a diamond pattern. I do not know why it did not come pre-drilled. This is just another bump in the road.
  10. Yes I will go with the washer and nut. I will tap the hole and get a longer screw for the washer and nut.
  11. Thanks. Just curious as to the type of installation from others. Of course It would have been better to have this thought at the beginning of the build, NOT THE END. I should be :banned: from future rifle projects.
  12. Nice float. Mine is Home built(bought one piece at a time). Nothing I do is ever easy or simple. :argue: (with myself)
  13. sounds good, thanks
  14. bi-pod and adapter have arrived. Looks like I need to tap two holes in my float for the 2 screws that were provide with the adapter. will that be secure enough, or should I get longer screws so I can install a washer and nut on the inside of the float?
  15. have not shopped for 6.8 brass, is it readily available or like almost everything else, jump on it while you can?
  16. off track again: My thoughts keep going back to my extra 308 lower. What do you think of going the other way, say a 338?
  17. I know e-bays history about weapons but what are your thoughts about amazon.com
  18. I had a friend a few months back bought a thousand. He burned through about half and he said only half worked ( the supplier stated they were pulled and not 100% but they were fine for plinking.(no damage to barrel) I do not know the supplier but they were milspec. No I have not used them but I thought I would pass on this tidbit. Good luck
  19. Ditto Kommifornia; I remember watching a fellow grunt carrying a 7.62 on our runs and did not want anything to do with it. Now I am retired and can just step outside or drive to the range, the 308,7.62AR is just the ticket. funny how things change. I do have a couple of 15's (sentimental value) next step perhaps another 308 or maybe the 338. :sniper:
  20. It is something I have to do. especially when one has extra parts already(some).I am beginning to understand my wife with her shoe compulsion.
  21. Interesting So how would be the cost and availability of brass? How it would compare against the 6.5, 300blk or even the 260?
  22. Dane armory said the 150gr are for plinking. I believe those were the hornaday brand. I do have a few boxes of mil-surp to get me through til I figure out the reloading process. thanks for the reply
  23. A plinking I shall go as I have not done any serious plinking since the Corpse ( Obama pronunciation) yes the 180's have a colored tip on them I have not opened the package but they look nice.(but again I think all bullets look nice) I picked those up on sale for just under .30 cents each. I figured I would give them a try if and when I work out to the long ranges. So I take it there are recoil issues with the 180's? Since my rifle wieghts in at 12 lbs with scope( bipod not included with weight) the majority of shooting will be off of a bipod, I also am installing an adjustable gas block and muzzle break. I do know if that is going to be enough help but it should not hurt. <nutkick>
  24. I have a whole crap load of different bullets but I am heavy in the 150 gr fmj and 168 gr hpbt hornadays and the 180 gr competition nosler
  25. I'll look into that, thanks
