  1. It was cold today for my wife but I felt like shooting. Took her rifle out to 200 and that thing is SWEET. I can't really give a good estimate of a grouping since I was having so much fun with it. I went wild on a couple O targets with pretty fast fire but at 200 yards, they were all on the 8 inch target with probably a dozen in the 2 inch area with a few of them either in or touching the 1 inch red and I was hitting 2 5x8 mini gongs (hung on each side of the 12 foot target stand) at will going back and forth so I cannot complain at all about this rifle. Can't wait till it warms up more so she can go and work on her accuracy at 200. She's gonna LOVE shooting this thing at any distance... I still have ONE mag that needs a little more filing in the front but I'll take care of that this week and all her mags will be golden as will the action of this rifle.
  2. I shot up an old but fully charged 30lb CO2 fire extinguisher at the range today. ALLLLLmost had a movie of it but since the ground was wet, we had set the vid-cam on a huge piece of cardboard near the extinguisher and the damn breeze caught part of the cardboard and knocked the camera over just before I fired. We didn't realize it until the show was over and we had only brought one of em with us. Frickin wind...lol We've got some more that are still charged but obsolete so we're gonna go without the cardboard next time and a taller tripod... First hit was dead center and clean through and got the thing blowing and spinning and then I managed another 5 or 6 rounds into it as it spun and danced so it was a pretty good "fun" target overall. We didn't know if we had gotten any of it at all on camera till I got home and as soon as I finished downloading I put it on and it was looking good for a while there and then poof, the camera falls over, you hear a shot and WHOOSSHHHHH and then shot, shot, more whooshing and blowing and more shots etc but all I got footage of was moving friggin leaves from a camera laying on it's side on the damn ground....lol
  3. Benelli M4 always at the bedside and of course, a few assorted shortguns here and there. We live in an old house with one thin stairway that leads upstairs with assorted window alarms and whatnot all about downstairs with deadbolts and window jams so getting a solid warning of someone breaking in should be fairly simple due to the noise it will make just to get in. I've taught my wife that if I'm ever out fishing (usually overnighters) or just not there, and since we all sleep on the 2nd floor, that all she needs to do is stand by near the top of the stairs with her "pre-determined" weapon at the ready, maintain her field of fire, have one of the boys get on the horn to 911 and then simply announce to whoever is down there that she is armed, able, scared and more than willing to shoot ANYTHING coming up those stairs. The police are on their way so take whatever you want and get out quickly unless you want to be either dead or in jail but there is NO WAY anyone is going to survive a trip up my stairs. She also knows she is not to leave her "spot" (no going downstairs to look) until the police have arrived and identified themselves and that everything is all clear. She is just little but with 8 brothers and sisters that are ALL bigger and yet VERY afraid of her temper, I know damn well that if I simply gave her the training and the tools, when the time comes, I have no doubt she will be more terrifying to deal with than a pack of momma bears in a cub sanctuary and my boys at only 8 and 10 are more than capable of backing her up as well with anything but some of the bigger tools we have around. The M4 is an ideal gun for guarding that stairwell with the 10 shot load and a couple of bandoleers to back it up...
  4. Great story and great young man. Nice find Unforgiven. <thumbsup> 11b '81-85.
  5. Yea. I always make a huge pot cuz I this ain't a one bowl kinda thing. Oh, and I almost forgot, 2 of those giant cans of clam juice too that you inlanders see at the store and can never quite figure out what the heck anyone would need a can of it for... :))
  6. Made a chowder today and now it's in the fridge for the overnight chill and by tomorrow, I'll be just about busting with goodness... 4 gallon pot 3 quarts of fresh, chopped clams 10 pounds of golden potatos 3 leaks 1 package of celery 3 spanish onions 3 big blocks of salt pork chunked up, rended and then everything cooked in the juice with half of the chunks left in the chowder and the half eaten as salty little death morsels of happiness and artery clogging goodness... Chowder for breakfast, then off to church, home for a chowder lunch, movie day with wife and boys, chowder for dinner and then pass out with my clam chowder urge sated for another 6 months...lol I've got the rest of it all promised to a couple of guys that work at my office so it'll be gone by Monday morning. My wife had a bowl and said it's my best batch so far but it's never it's best till it has cooled and then gets reheated. That's when it's kickin... I also had a nice big slab of peppered smoked bluefish from the fish place today that I ate on the way home after work so it's been a fine day. :))
  7. He's always good for a laugh. I needed one too... Thanks.. ^-^
  8. Sent you a pm Toolndie...
  9. Wow. THIS thread took a turn. Here we all were talking about our wives and now over to condoms? Those are for single guys...lol I saw some years ago that glowed in the dark. The package said "wrap your knight in shining armor"... Thought that was pretty good...
  10. Worth every penny too Matt. I actually did mine on a layaway deal since I was afraid my wife would beat the hell out of me if I told her I was gonna spend that kinda dough on a "silly old shotgun". She had no idea what a difference there can be in shotguns until she saw it action though and after that, well, the price didn't really bug her all that much... She shoots it too with low recoil slugs sometimes and loves it. She even hip fired at a 25 yard target a few times for fun with a full load of 10 rounds. When she finished, all she could say was "I GOTTA do that AGAIN..." :))
  11. I ain't no salesman and if you don't care much for shotguns, this seems like a funny area for you to be in but I'm sure all opinions are welcome so thanks for posting. My M4 is not for sale by the way nor do I have any spares.... :)) Also respectfully Sir Sharkey
  12. Condoms are a great idea. Carp ARE suckers right?? Intriguing... ^-^
  13. I've never been a pump gun guy although I've got nothing against them. It's nice to be able to dump 10 loads of buckshot into a target at 15 yards in roughly 2 seconds though. Granted, there are some seriously fast guys with pump guns but they also work with their guns almost daily to be able to achieve those kinds of times whereas with my M4, it's pretty much a given and all you have to be able to do is hang on... Not to mention that with the Benelli as compared to that Keltec, moving, firing and reloading is pretty simple since it's a standard loading shotgun and you can push shells into it pretty darn quickly on the move. I don't think that keltec boasts the same versatility but I could be wrong.
  14. Sounds like a good time for sure. I miss training sometimes but at this point in my life, I'm just normally glad to be out shooting when I go. Just for the fun of it...
  15. Great. Now I'm gonna have to go to Galilee and spend a bunch O money.... ^-^
  16. Sorry for the bleak prognosis Sisco. Damn man....
  17. Those things are gonna make life tough in the big lakes eventually. God Forbid... I like the gubments solution: They spent million to create a bunch of recipes for eating asian carp....lol No quitters there eh? I'm wondering when all the gubment recipes for rice will be coming out so we won't mind the Chinese taking over so much...
  18. I take them with me when I'm night fishing in the surf but for offshore, it's all towels man. Ya just dunk em in the salt water and wipe everything down when you want and we've always just kept running bags of fresh ones onhand so even if you've got a full bag of bloody ones, you can just grab a bag of clean ones and head out. Depending on the grips on the rods, baby wipes can leave you a little slick sometimes if you have just used one and when you have a 15 foot thresher on the line, you don't wanna have slippy hands holdin the rod...
  19. Along with just fishing for easy action stuff, another HUGE thing that can make a difference for when you have your girl with you is hand towels. Bring lots and lots of rags (I like those white terry cloth shop towels - cheap and you can carry em by the bundle) and things for them to wipe there hands on and nice clean ones. It's nothing for us (as males) to come home from a hunting or fishing trip with guts and blood and crap all over our pants and clothes but my wife won't go for that for a second. Gotta have some good rags or towels around and she'll get elbows deep when cleaning a shark or striper or whatever but she'll be looking for a rag every time her hands aren't busy and the first time one isn't, she'll be damn put out over it and then comes the little tiny blonde smacking the 6'2" guy with malice... ^-^
  20. God Bless ya Shepp. We've all been there with that kinda stuff and know it can be more than a little distracting and painful. As for the "post whoring", well, I haven't seen you post any "crap" so I would say you are just being "diligent and talkative" and all input has been well received Sir. But to be honest, with the stuff we have going on lately, I thank God for some good men and a little forum action as a distraction myself so it's all good man.
  21. Thanks all and I truly think the "trick" is to start em off with what you KNOW they can handle. Sure, the bigger stuff is more effective. We all know that. BUT, for a woman just starting out, handling any kind of gun can be a scary thing. Start em off with something small and easy to shoot and give em something "inter-active" to shoot at so it seems a bit more rewarding with each pull of the trigger. Like fishing, once you get em hooked, it is SO much easier to move em up than trying to start off with something that might not be very fun. A few extra bucks on something smaller and easier to handle now might make the big difference later one and like my wife, it'll take NO time for her to want to start moving up in caliber and pushing the limits so she can become more effective on a bad day. Great stuff in here guys. Sisco, just cuz she don't shoot don't make her a bad woman my friend. If Cathy didn't shoot, I'd surely still adore her no matter what. God Bless you both for at least finding each other and being happy. Nothing like a good woman on yer arm for life. Sharkey
  22. Hey Guys, I consider myself a damn lucky man. It took me 38 years to find her but my wife and I just have an absolute ball together doing everything from shark fishing and shooting to sharing a Monte Cristo Cigar #1 and a bottle of Non alcoholic champagne on the beach or just talking and laughing before we fall asleep every night. She's one of a kind and I know it. I've always gone to great lengths to make sure that when I had something in my life that I enjoyed, that I found a way to make it easier for her to learn and enjoy with me. With fishing, it was spending more time (at least in the beginning), keeping fishing simple and targeting smaller fish that were easier for her to handle until she gained confidence and was willing AND able to move up to bigger stuff. I spent money on equipment that FIT her since she's just small and have always worked to find ways of making very tough stuff more "in reach" for her. Shooting has been no different. We started small years ago and now she's up to shooting bigger stuff including my AR10 and up to a level where it was time to spend the money on getting her a rifle of her own which she is enjoying fully. I was just wondering how many other guys take their wives out, work with them, teach them how to take care of themselves and find ways to make them safer - ESPECIALLY when we aren't around to take care of things which is what we all just really want to be able to do. Do you guys shoot with and work with your wives to help them be more capable too? Here's my girl. 50 years old (don't tell her I said so though) and kicking ass with her M15 like she'd been shooting it her whole life. And bare with me if I talk about my wife a lot lately guys. I'm not going to get into it and this is NOT a thoughts and prayers thread but we've had some health concerns about her lately and still haven't gotten to the bottom of it all so I spose I just spend a LOT of time thinking about her. Posting about her sometimes seems to help me ease a bit of worry. She's my angel but one VERY tough lady. She's gotta be to deal with me.... Here's my ugly mug too... I find covering the handsome with fuzz tends to keep the paparazzi from bugging me too much... :))
