I wasn't intending to talk trash about Ford trucks, I like them have driven many miles in F150, F250 and even F350 fords, I just don't drive one now. I do prefer the Tahoe over the Explorer for several reasons.
-
Won't ever happen to me, I don't drive a F150. I drive a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe LS w/ 5.3 liter 6 speed TH tranny, Godyear tires, trailoring package, Onstar, cruise, collusion avoidance, rear view camera heated six way seats adjustable peddles remote start, etc., etc.,.............

OKAY it will probably increase your costs above 50% and the reliability of piece by piece compatiability of components when you don't know much about building a LR308. and the subject of NTF coating of the BCG?
-
Who was it that offered the NTF coatings? Lightning holes would be against the needed weight (mass) for a .308 BCG. Why not just buy a complete DPMS upper? That way is probably the way to be assured of a matching upper, since you are not building a true AR 10 rifle.

Husband: My wife is missing. She went shopping yesterday and has not come home... Sergeant at Police Station: What is her height? Husband: Gee, I'm not sure. A little over five-feet tall... I think.Sergeant: Weight? Husband: Don't know. Not slim, not really fat. Sergeant: Color of eyes? Husband: Sort of brown I think. Never really noticed.Sergeant: Color of hair? Husband: Changes a couple times a year. Maybe dark brown now. I can't remember. Sergeant: What was she wearing? Husband: Could have been pants, or maybe a skirt or shorts. I don't know exactly. Sergeant: What kind of car did she go in? Husband: She went in my truck. Sergeant: Truck? What kind of truck was it? Husband: A 2015 Ford F150 King Ranch 4X4 with eco-boost 5.0L V8 engine special ordered with manual transmission and climate controlled air conditioning. It has a custom matching white cover for the bed, which has a matching aftermarket bed liner. Custom leather 6-way seats and "Bubba" floor mats. Trail-ring package with gold hitch and special wiring hook-ups. DVD with full GPS navigation, satellite radio receiver, 23-channel CB radio, six cup holders, a USB port, and four power outlets. I added special alloy wheels and off-road Michelins. It has custom running boards and indirect wheel well lighting with puddle lites on the doors, high-compression heads and overdrive. At this point the husband started choking up. . . . Sergeant: Don't worry buddy. We'll find your truck...............................

That is great, BSA has always been ahead of the game! As a Boy Scout it was the first real Shooting safety training I ever had. My dad was an old timer, "Just load 'er up and find something to shoot!" 'Don't ever point it at anything you don't want to kill, now go hunt something to eat and watch out that you don't shoot the dog!"

I have been a NRA Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun Instructor since attending the first NRA Instructors School at the NRA Whittington Center in June of 1977. My wife also completed that school. The most satisfaction I had was starting 8 and 10 year old boys and girls on the Daisy BB Gun shooting team and the 11 to 18 year old kids with .22 NRA target rifle competition in the club's 50' indoor range. We won the regional competition several years and competed in the Texas State 4H club championships at A&M in College Station. Every shooter had to pass the NRA Junior Marksmanship course,

I shot high power courses of fire from my 1960 USMC boot camp days with the.3006 M1 thru civilian high power courses until 1985 on a regular basis. All with iron sights. I hunt and punch paper with glass sights and iron sights. Practice is the key to being a good shooter. I am still blessed with good uncorrected eyesight at 78 years of age. Keep a regular shooting log book and refer to your shooting history and sight dope , ammo information often. And by all means practice, practice some more, and persevere! I think you have commendable goals. I hope some of your practice sessions will include using competition grade iron sights if you have good eyes.

I saw the one on Utube of the spot welds on the AK receiver. Is that a flux core wire welder or a Mig? I have a Lincoln Wire welder with Mig in my shop, I have used it with Flux-core and also Mig steel and also aluminum, I found that Flux-core is very nasty , more smoke than using a stick welder, it is hard on an old codger's lungs. for me wire fed welding, t is easier to weld with than a stick welder by far. Have you ever used a Dillon Henrod 2000 torch?

Yep, "If we see the pics we are believers, otherwise it never happened," That is a quote from one of our oldtimers, on another thread, by the way.
-
It may not necessarily get to the point of a firing test in order to accomplish the primary goal of making a Utube video. I do agree that an ingenious person can do creditable work with what appears to be antiquated tools. Just look at the accomplishment that "Carbine" Williams did while in prison in Texas before WWII without either the internet or Utube or a M2 Carbine forum web site.

A A appears to want a cheapskate way to build a functioning LR308/7.62X51 gas operating semi-automatic rifle using a $28 plate steel lower receiver weld-together kit. Probably in order to make a Utube video to show off his home garage building skills just as he appears to have done with a AK 47 receiver. Any recommendations for using modern method like a $59 1-13/16 taper tap or a $1K MIG or TIG welder will shoot down his Cheapskate project goal.. Did any of you regulars see the Utube of the guy that did the video of the guy building a a working .410 shot gun from black pipe with a hacksaw and a crackerbox ac welder? This appears to me, to be in the same order of a deal, that is my 2¢ worth.

This is a great day for grilling! Chicken breasts, baked taters and corn on the cob. A bowl of Blue Bell and a cup of Folgers and that will end up a mighty fine day. I been making targets and frames today.
-
I do it on Facebook, click on the picture as posted to go to the full sized pitcure then right clicik on it and COPT, then go to our site and PASTE into the reply box. I works better if you set the frame in the center mode. I havent figured out how to copy and paste from my tablet yet but I will someday. I will also use another browser for FB if I don't want to lose my place here. Like This:

If the picture is on another web site copy and paste directly onto the reply box. works better on a desktop.

When you pull the charging handle all the way back and release it on a full magazine does the round chamber and fire okay? do you soak the upper friction points and BCG and bolt rings with lube oil? keep the oil out of the chamber. Mobil 1 motor oil works for me.

Questions on a dpms lr308
mrmackc replied to MonsterSubie's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
The best thing I did for My DPMS LR308 , for accuracy, was replace the awful stock trigger with a Geissele 2 stage trigger. It is not a drop in but not too bad to install, it came with really good instructions . Or if you wish you could replace the original with a Timney single stage drop in trigger. I would like to trade my spare Geissle 2 stage spare (in the original package) for a Timney drop in , just because I prefer a single stage drop in. -
AA, no disrespect here about your handle by abbreviating it to AA. How about posting pictures of your projects. We may change our opinions if we see some of your work. Yep it sounds kind of strange so far. Maybe we just have a lot more to learn.

Very close Wash, the simple math: (distance to target in yards) Times .01046 equals one minute of angle. Therefore if your rifle groups one inch at 100 yards you can say "it shoots sub MOA"
