Alright it's unbelievable seeing this here online. The survivors need big time help. Is anyone aware of a good place to donate money toward recovery? Can goods be shipped yet? I'll start looking online now and would appreciate everyone's help listing needs for these folks.

No damage or storm flooding near me. Blessings and prayer sent toward all afflicted parties.

Adorable children, I would have never risked that ride. Glad to see he is OK. BALLZ1 for sure. @98Z5V -
Attention: Storm seems to be headed North along the coast. Hope the f'kr heads out to the 800 line and blows itself out. All quiet here, most of the storm shutters and prep work completed in my community. Anyone who has folks down West Palm area, we may be blessed with some heavy rain but less than predicted. May get our anatomy handed to us but who knows? Over prepared is a good thing when you are stationary. Some friends quietly ran out of town. Hope they don't need any favors, ain't happening from me. Stone Soup.

Hey Sisco, hoping that bull snake is B.S. I'm guessing it is. Thanks sketch, we have what some folks call lakes behind the houses. Plenty of wildlife live there but they are really huge catch basins. Sewers, not sanitary but rain water goes directly into the " Lake". I have the pumping station right there with the Call box standing by. Thank you for your concern.@sketch

Spotting scopes deteriorating
RedRiverII replied to RedRiverII's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
My scope was outdoors perhaps twenty hours it's whole life. I opened it for my last range trip and I discovered the stickiness. So UV in this case is not the apparent cause, or so I believe right now. I'll get the transparent matte spray today and do like Konus suggests. See if that helps. I find it difficult to believe a short twenty hours in the sun would do that. Left outdoors yes, but in it's case and then inside it's box. Thanks for all the help. As far as condoms go if I can get my wife pregnant at 67 we're all getting CROM 500's on me. -

Yes Sir. Thank you. -
We're supposed to experience a hurricane soon and I thought I'd get in touch with folks here in Florida. I've prepared over a couple of years for this situation. It's best to get prepared now as I see the beginnings of a run on supplies already. I dislike the way some media folks are presenting this storm, hitting all the high notes and pausing for effect. It's like a cheap acting class where folks are emoting for style. I detest these people who should be calmly assuring us, and informing us how to best prepare. The best way to deal with emergencies like this is to do it now while it's sunny and calm. I'll fill my gas tanks and cans today. I've got 4 propane tanks for the generator. MRE's that I don't wish to get into but have enough for a month. Extra water for a week, dog food and cat food aplenty, thank goodness for the dry food stuff. Remember some pet foods can be eaten by us, I don't expect it to be that bad but... Tarps and duct tape are a good thing to have on hand. Batteries, batteries, batteries. A radio is a terrific item. The lists can go on and on. The storm may be bad and get worse, or it can turn into a nothing thing. Keep an eye out for your neighbor, I'm the youngster in a 55+ community and will be watching. If you're in a community type arrangement or development know where the sewers are. All the leaves and debris quickly gather there and can cause flooding. A simple raking off of debris can save thousands in damages. Flag the sewers if you can, a simple pole with a red or orange flag will do. My man cave, which is my garage, needs to get ready to accept two cars. It is not ready, o boy! Meds? Got enough? You are aware of the main reason we come to this site. Have that available, you never know. I hope this post is a waste of energy, and we're all safe. God Bless.

I ain't particularly sure Sisco, but the setup might be the third 'FatBoy' missing since WWII. I'd be careful.

Spotting scopes deteriorating
RedRiverII replied to RedRiverII's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Yep that Steiner is beyond tape. It still should not have fallen apart like it did. My optic feels like someone spilled sticky soda all over it. The plastic lens covers are fine. The control knobs are fine, as well as all other parts except the body. That is inexcusable. Let me go find my 50 yr. old Steiners and show you well but stuff. The lenses may need changing, but the body is terrific. -

Spotting scopes deteriorating

Never used any cleaners. The scope sat in a canvas bag supplied with the scope. I should take a picture. Anyway I used Dawn soap and water which did nada. I tried a small amount of Goof Off in the small yellow can. Nada. My initial post is the response from KONUS. Use a transparent matt spray and let it dry. Hmm. Albroswift, did you ever ask Steiner about that damage? -

Went online to other sites and found many different optics displaying the same degradation. I have a pair of Steiner Binoculars from a photographer that had access to Nixon and other biggies during the 60's. No sign of material breakdown. Go figure. -
Funny the differences of experience with the same rifle from the same company. Original gear and my rifle spit the brass at 4-5 o'clock. Yes a mule kicking sumnagun. I'm changing the spring and buffer to suggested configuration by 98Z5V. I'll go to the range tomorrow with two types of ammo. First experience I shot Fed. GMMK 168's. MagTech M80 and Fed MGGK. Wish I had a different muzzle device, gotta dig through the pile once again and see if I can find one. I'm holding off on an adjustable gas valve. I don't plan on shooting suppressed.

Shocked to find my spotting scope (rubber body?) ( plastic body?) sticky. I opened my spotting scope, Konus, that I had not used for a few years. It was sticky and at first I thought I had spilled a Coke on it. I tried to clean it off with solvents, soap and water and finally realized the rubber had rotted? It isn't a dry rot, there rubber just smeared. Contacted Konus and received this response: Good morning, to solve the proble we suggest to follw the following instructions: 1) cover the optical part of the scope with a paper. 2) use a transparent matt spray on the sticky parts. 3) Let the spray dry. 4) remove the paper from the optical part Thank you and best regards, KONUS ITALIA GROUP SPA Export Dept Have you had similar problems with your optics? I'm about to buy more optics and spend way more than I paid for the Konus but, I don't feel like getting some crap rubber or cheap plastic in the body. Any suggestions?
