  1. What would be the advantage of a stainless barrel that is salt bath nitrided?
  2. I see I misread something in the description of the Hybrid barrel. It is mid-weight. I don't understand the "hybrid" term fully but that looks lighter than the 'heavier" profile. I'd like to get that in stainless. Something to shoot for the next time there's a sale.
  3. I like the profile on the Armalite DEF-10. I agree with 98 that medium profile is right where I need it to be. I plan on using an A2 front sight gas block. Mice gun you have there. I've never seen you post photos of it before. I must have missed them.
  4. By the way ... I just ordered 2 of the 80% lowers in the white from American Made Tactical.  I have a jig set already but I think I may splurge and get the jig set that Brownells offers.  I like the top plate of the template set better.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

Just be careful that the jig works with the lowers you ordered.  What I have found in doing a number of these is that most jigs do NOT work with lowers from other suppliers.  In some cases I have had to simply scribe the outline of what I wanted to mill and do everything by eye, which isn't too difficult to do with a mill but may be far more of a problem is you are using a drill press.  To test, put it in the jig and see if it closes.  If so, scribe the openings and take it out and measure to see if it is centered.  If it is you are good to go.

Also, if you are going to use a drop in trigger you may find that you need to make the fire control well just a little wider than most jigs will allow.  The standard two piece triggers seem to fit fine but both the Mech Armor and a Rise drop in required a slightly wider pocket.

COOL   Thanks for the information.  I would've never known that.

  5. Is there any way to turn your Hybrid profile down a bit or is that as thin and lean as it can go? How is this different from your typical "medium contour"?
  6. Welcome to the forum from Gulf Coast Texas ... (say ADIOS to your long-established bank account ... )
  7. On second thought, that one looks a little heavier than what I'm after. I want something as light as possible.
  8. As light as possible and in stainless steel. I'm sure 98 will chime in here soon. Looks like the American Defense option is looking pretty good.
  9. Folks ... time for a .308 Dissipator build. How about doing a run of the Dissipator barrels you used to offer through Fulton Armory ... ??? This is what has been recently discussed so far: From 98VZ5 - "16" Stainless barrel with rifle-length gas system, medium weight contour, 1:10" twist, match grade. Criterion used to make that barrel for Fulton Armory. SurvivalShop has one. Fulton doesn't carry it anymore, and Criterion doesn't make it for them because they don't request it. The only hope you have is getting Josh at Criterion to make it again, and sell it direct. Hit up the Criterion Barrels section and start a thread on it - with enough interest, and enough people committed to buy one, I'd bet they do a batch... You can copy this PM right into the thread if you'd like - then all the details are right there..." I'm sure they will be sold
  10. Nice job. Nice gun indeed.
  11. This past weekend at the gun show here folks were selling 80% lowers us usual. Either they interpret this new BS does not apply to them or they simply don't care ... LOL
  12. Just discovered this. Seems it was discussed at a show back in May. https://looserounds.com/2016/05/20/colts-semi-m16a1-and-xm177-coming-soon/ Possibly run this by ArmaLite for some retro versions of their classics ... ???
  13. FWIW ... Just got back from a gun show here today. There was HUGE estate sale and everything was being sold as a private sale. No NIICS checks were required/conducted at purchase. I guess the preceding Exec order was flushed, or at least it's being ignored.
  14. RIGHT OUT FRY YOUR BRAIN !!!
  15. Howdy JT,

I wanted to ask what are you using for a tool to hone the inside of the scope rings on a mount?

I've looked up Flex Hones but also thought about brake cylinder hones too.  Do you use anything that abrasive?  What abrasive do you recommend?  Seems with the Flex Hones 600 & 800 grit are both available with the aluminum oxide hones.

I've never honed one but have thought about it before so I thought I would ask.

    THANKS !!!

    Glenn

Thanks.  Makes better sense.  The drill-driven hones would most likely remove too ,much material.

I finally got one of these Wheeler kits.  Thanks for the information.

  16. Welcome from Gulf Coast Texas.
  17. I hope somewhere in there they can't later pull a rabbit out of the hat regarding night vision and infrared scopes. If so, then this is possibly indicative of their future intentions ... THEY FEAR US and this is proof. This is a further display by these clown of the basic identifiable communist traits; fear and paranoia, corruption, domination, and control.

  20. I have to agree with Bob; the intent of this was to no doubt shut off the 80% option. I also agree with Doc in that the language of it, although entirely confusing, lends a good argument in favor of the personal use remaining. No doubt; if the Wicked Spin-Headed Witch gets in office it will have to go to court, which she will most likely pack with communists and there the argument will be lost.
  21. AWESOME !!! I've always loved these. Best pistol caliber carbine ever IMHO.
  22. Indeed it should have.
  23. COOL !!! You ought to put that on the .308AR FB page too.
