Thanks for all the welcomes guys, glad to be aboard! Hey Frank, yep that's me, the sharp barreled guy! Was hoping to have this one done by now and on to the next, but all the incompatibly between manufacturers parts is just crazy! Still riding the learning curve!

Way back in the day I had 2 nickel 6" pythons and a blue one, sold them all! Sure wish I didn't. Had 2 Dan Wesson pistol packs too!
-
Hi, all been here a little bit and already asking lots of you guys for help! Hope to be able to contribute here too, as soon as I get a few more of these 308 builds under the belt! Like it here, gonna stay awhile!
-
Thanks Frank, I know Rainier should be a good match because the sell the fortis on their site for their uppers. Wash, I hear everything you're sayin and agree 100%...just sucks cause I like its looks. My problem is i got it on ebay at a great price! I'll have to dump it on there to get ride of it! May contact Rainier to see what they say about the fit. Since this won't be my only 308 build!

Started out on the other forums when I just got back into black guns and knew I just had to have a 308(just one? NOT!!). Then I found this awesome place and haven't been back to the others much at all!
-
Awesome...love it!!!

It's not a big deal to me, I have everything to hone and polish them, just want to make sure I don't have a problem with barrel warranty before I do it! I have done dozens of pistol barrels so I have an idea of what to do.

Hey Nathan! Need some input on my Faxon 308 barrel extension on the mid weight 308 20" barrel I have. All the edges on it are very sharp! Enough to cut you! Do they all come this way or was something missed on this one? Some of the guys here think I should send it back for you to check. Others say to hone and polish it myself. Can i do this without effecting the warranty on the barrel?

That Aero is on sale for 139 right now. But...that's the upper I'm using that has the large gap with the Fortis! Not sure if the barrel extension is playing a part in this as well!
-
There are multiple examples of this at the Gettysburg museum! There was so much lead in the air they have display cases full, even some cannon balls!
-
+1 lets see some pics when together! That's the rail I'm gonna go with too! What upper are you going to try with the Fortis hoping for a better fit?
-
I'm thinking of switching to either the JP or the SLR.If I do I'll probably go m-lock this time. Just got to decide which to get!
-
I think you would have to remove material from inside the barrel nut and or the barrel extension like Survival said to get it to seat to the receiver. I purchased the hand guard because I liked it's look! Once on I don't plan on taking it on and off!
-
My barrel is a Faxon, and those edges are so sharp they could cut you! Still undecided if I want to just polish them myself or contact Faxon and return it and let them look at it!
-
No, gas tube and block not on yet. Barrel came with a really sharp edged extension, I need to get in there and dull the edges and polish before assembly.
-
I also have this problem with the Forties handguard on my Aero upper, just the gap, height is perfect! Have a thread over in tools about it, was asking if lapping would help and if anyone knew where to get a tool for the 308.
-
I DO...I DO!!!!! Oh, wait...this is about a group buy, got distracted! I'd be interested in a law folder too!
-
I was having this problem with my Aero bolt! There are 2 o rings under the extractor, I removed one, problem went away!
-
Started looking into a 308 build on the other forums and saw multiple references to this forum in threads on ar-15.com! So here I am, and plan to stay!

Love these things, have them on all my ar-15s and the the first thing I ordered for my 308 build! Will be getting one for the Gredel I plan to start right after the 308. -
I know about the fit and finish! Have an Aero upper with a Fortis switch 308 handguard, and there is a good 1/8" to 1/4" gap between the two! The height is perfect though! Have a thread about it over in the tool area.

Picture 3, look at the left feed ramp, on its right side you can a small smear of copper on it going up to the sharp edge of the bolt cutout. The rounds do line up with the barrel extension ramp, just to the right of center. Will not hit the receiver. Hard to get a good picture of the round, but, the scraps on it really look like they come from that bolt cutout, there is copper on it as well. Head space did check out ok, just wont be able to get out to shoot for a while with all the snow here right now!
-
Yep, your right! Thanks for the advice and help guys! Back it goes!
-
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It is tearing the bullet and brass up! Would it be possible for me to hone those edges?
-
Ok, got some images of the gap between the hand guard and receiver. Also the step between the receiver and barrel extension. Did feed around through it, firing pin out! It cycled fine, but, chewed up the bullet with sharp edges on the m4 feed ramp where the the bolt goes through.
