  1. It's not the prettiest HG I've ever seen, but it's damn light.
  2. "No justice, no peace..." is code for "If the officer isn't charged, convicted, and hanged by his pecker for use as a piñata, there will be riots." Their version of justice is an investigation which will lead to certain conviction. Any investigation which determines the shooting was justified will be called incomplete, incompetent, or corrupt.
  3. When I click the link in the OP, it takes me back to this thread...
  4. I have never and will never donate anything to the Red Cross. Back on May 3, 1999, when the largest tornado ever recorded (at least at that time...) came through Oklahoma, my grandparents lived a mile from where the tornado crossed their road in the Bridge Creek area. We spent days helping their friends and neighbors clean up after they had lost literally everything. A mile-wide swath was cut through the countryside. Any houses that existed on May 2 were reduced to a concrete slab covered with debris -- the majority of the debris was from towns 15-20 miles away. The day after the storm, the Salvation Army was there handing out bottled water, coffee, and donuts to anyone who walked by. They brought in boxes and boxes of (new) stuffed animals for the kids who had lost everything. The next day, the Red Cross comes in with a similar setup -- water, coffee, donuts, and other snacks. As their trailer was set up closer to where we were, we stopped by to grab some water. Before we turned around, the lady said, "Three bottles of water, that'll be $1.50." I can't even begin to describe the anger I saw from my grandfather at that moment. "You mean to tell me you're CHARGING these folks for this stuff, when you're standing in the middle of all this destruction? Can you not see they've lost everything they ever owned? What the hell is the matter with you people?!" He opened his bottle of water, chugged it, and very calmly sat the empty bottle back down on the table. He didn't pay. The Red Cross was still there the next day, but word had gotten out by that point. They packed up by the fourth day after the storm and went home. Apparently it was no longer profitable to stay there.
  5. Welcome from SW Oklahoma!
  6. I think I'd call it a "quart"...
  7. On a side note, this pistol grip monopod project is progressing well. I got the remainder of the supplies in yesterday. Went out to the garage this evening and cut the DOM tube with a hacksaw and started mocking up. Retracted: Extended (not necessarily full length, as that will be more like 1.5"-2", but gives an idea): The all thread still needs to be cut to length, and the tube still needs to be cut to its final length to allow it to remain up inside the pistol grip once the "foot" portion of all thread is removed. I've also contacted a local anodizing shop that does black oxide. Once I get this cut down to the correct length and welded up, I'll be having all the non-SS parts treated.
  8. Well, after 2 full weekends (including Labor Day) of having to work and a 3-day jury trial this week, I took the afternoon off and went to my range. The rifle functioned flawlessly with the new gas block and SEI brake. Recoil was noticeably reduced, muzzle rise was almost non-existent. I went ahead and threw Slash's heavy buffer and AR-10 spring in. Again, functioned flawlessly. Recoil was similar to a 5.56 rifle. I'm impressed! Re-zeroed the rifle with FGMM 168s and tried some Hornady TAP 168s, as well. Targets at 100 yards, from a bipod and rear bag. Wind was variable and from 4-5 o'clock. Top left group is FGMM, other 2 are TAP. Not much to write home about, but today was about function testing and decompressing after 3+ weeks of trial prep. The rifle is capable of better...
  9. FA makes their own, too: http://www.fulton-armory.com/far-308-lr-308-free-float-wrench.aspx
  10. The guy I bought my HG from included a "modified" DPMS LR-308 wrench and I was able to make it work. It has 2 pins that face the opposite direction of the rest of them, and they have to be inserted into holes that are one hole away from being directly across from each other. If you need to borrow it, I'll gladly send it to you (as long as you send it back... Lol!).
  11. Well, I knew it was going too smoothly. Turns out, it's dang near impossible to thread a 3" long piece of bar stock (in this case, hex bar stock) 1/4-28 all the way through. What I ordered is actually threaded to a depth of approximately 9/16" on each end. That won't allow the "extra" length of all thread that's attached to the foot to retract into the body of the monopod. I'm looking into some .500" x .058" wall DOM tube and welding threaded tube adapters into each end. I can't weld to save my life, but I have a buddy who's made a career of it...
  12. Just trying to fit in...
  13. Well, the majority of the parts for this little experiment have shipped. I calculated it all up, including shipping on the materials, and the cost to build one of these will be significantly less than the product I posted the link to. If it works well, it'll be money well spent... I'll post pics of the progress once I'm able to get my hands on everything.
  14. Sadly, DPMS's fix is going to be "Don't use PMags." If your rifle won't even function with the DPMS mag, something's wrong.
  15. That's what I originally thought of. But what I'm looking at doing would be adjustable.
  16. That's what I'm looking at. Replace grip screw with a 3" long hex sleeve that's threaded 1/4-28 and has 1.5" of 1/4-28 all-thread sticking out 1" (Red LocTite between the all thread and hex sleeve would be a must). Then another 4" or so of all-thread (again, 1/4-28 to make life easier...), a knurled nut, and a rubber foot. When not needed, the long piece of all-thread with the knurled nut and foot can be unthreaded from the 3" long hex. The hex does not stick out further than the bottom of the pistol grip, so a cap could be put in place to give it a finished look. The "foot" end of the monopod could be stashed in a trapdoor buttstock (like my MOE Rifle or an A2), put in a pocket, or in the range bag. I think it's going to be too long to comfortably stash away inside the pistol grip next to the 3" long hex...
  17. Mine is the PVR handguard. They were making one with a slot along the bottom for use with their hand stop, but last time I looked they didn't show it on their website.
  18. I have a couple of Harris knockoff bipods (Blackhawk Sportster?) that I like. I'm talking about a monopod mounted in the pistol grip, instead of a butt stock mounted monopod to support the rear of the rifle. It will be a similar concept to this one from Windham: https://www.windhamweaponry.com/shopexd.asp?id=536 but tucked into the grip a bit more when it's not being used.
  19. Rather than spreading pics and gratuitous pics of my rifle all over the forum, I decided this might be the place to start my own thread as a running "depository," so to speak, of the mods I've done (and will do) to my DPMS LR-308T. I picked this rifle up earlier this year for $850: Bought an RRA 2-stage trigger from the same guy for $80, and dropped it in the rifle. Much better than the mile of gravel road leading up to an 8 lb. wall. Sighted it in, broke it in, and decided it needed some parts swapped. First up was a Hogue pistol grip: Next up was a secondhand Fulton Armory Rifle-Length Handguard, Fulton Armory low-profile gas block (.750" I.D.), and second-hand SEI "Good Iron" brake: I'm pretty satisfied with how it's coming along. A change in optics will be next up, after I try out my idea for an internal pistol-grip-mounted monopod...
  20. Does R2 even own a DPMS? I thought he only dealt with "superior" rifles...
  21. I stopped by the local(ish) gun shop yesterday and browsed around at the scopes they had in stock. They had just sold their last VX-HOG, but advised they can order another/some more and have it/them in 2-3 days. Their price: $229. I'm all about saving money, but I'd rather keep my money local(ish). Planning on feeling out the Ms. on the issue of buying another scope this weekend. Lol!
  22. I'm kind of in love with the FA handguard I just installed, and would definitely recommend it. But you already know that... Lol! If you go with a Hogue, keep in mind you have to buy the AR-15 handguard and their "DPMS AR-10" barrel nut for it.
  23. @HavasuMike Good to know I'm not the only one! Lol! Less is more, IMO. Even this scope is "too much" for me on a hunting rifle. @blue109 Thank you sir, that's what I'm going for!
  24. Just to bring this thread full circle... Fulton Armory Rifle-Length Handguard, FA low profile .750" I.D. gas block (obviously not visible...), and SEI "Good Iron" brake.
  25. Looking back now, I wasted several days worrying about what to feed my rifle. It runs just fine on 7.62 and .308 factory ammo. I was just giving that as an example of how DPMS's "techs" simply read from a script and/or shoot from the hip (and get it wrong...).
