  1. They won't come after handguns the same way they do "assault weapons." Mainly because of Heller and McDonald, both of which dealt specifically with handgun bans. What I fully expect to see in the coming years, tied into another attempted AWB, is another nationwide magazine capacity restriction. That's how they approach handguns. If course, if Monica's ex-boyfriend's wife gets elected and gets a chance to nominate some 3 SCOTUS justices, we may very well see Heller and McDonald overturned. Or at least have enough exceptions carved out of them that they will serve no real purpose.
  2. Thanks, fellas. I'm running straight pipe on this car, and it sounds great. The turbo really muffles the sound all by itself and gives it a deep tone -- not to mention you can hear the turbo spool up and wind down. It's been an ongoing project since I bought it in '07. Had a bad motor, replaced it with a known good one. Interior was FUBAR, been slowly replacing and repairing. Next up is a 200-4R swap (this car wants overdrive and 3.73 gears, instead of the TH350C and 3.08s). EDIT: Did I mention that's the original paint color? It's been repainted, but the car left the factory wearing Navajo Orange Metallic.

  4. Got a 1981 Turbo Trans Am (my "first born child") that I've been working on for the last 9 years... And my Sportster, which I think I'm just about done modifying. That is, until I can afford a 90" jug kit for it...

I just didn't know if mineralman55 realized the OP was in Hawaii...

Welcome from Oklahoma! And, for the others, I don't quite think he can drive from Hawaii to Colorado...
  7. Welcome aboard from Oklahoma! Thank you for your service. As far as tuneable muzzle devices are concerned, I've just stumbled across the UM Tactical R.A.G.E. TCS: http://www.umtactical.com/rage-tcs.html Looks like an interesting product. They are producing .308 brakes in 5/8-24, they're just not listed as for sale on their website as of yet.
  8. I feel for the family that lost their child, but whenever I've been to Florida, I've always operated on one assumption: If it's not a swimming pool, assume there are alligators in it and stay the hell out of it." So far it's kept me from being eaten, drowned, etc. by a modern-day dinosaur (or dragon, whichever you prefer).
  9. I haven't looked, either, but I would imagine by now they're just about all gone. The wife and I were actually having a discussion about this yesterday evening. I'm considering at least buying a 5.56 lower and a .308 lower. If all else fails, I should be able to build them (I hope...). I've also been wanting a TAVOR for a couple of years, thinking now might be the time to pick one up. Hell, it's "scarier looking" than an AR...
  10. If they were going to expend the time, energy, and resources to fake something like this, wouldn't they have paid more attention? The fact that everything is such a mess is more suggestive, IMO, of the fact that this was a WTF situation, where people were just running away in the heat of the moment, only to be brought back to an ambulance/triage area, wherever it may have been.
  11. Personally, I appreciate you sharing the group buy link, though. I'd read about it, but couldn't find it anywhere (and ASSumed it was long gone). I'll be ordering one when my gun toys account fills back up...
  12. Umm... Guys... Direct from Mech Armor's website... Here is a list of the weapons which we have found our handle DOES NOT FIT! Smith & Wesson - M&P 10 Rock River Arms – .308 cal Stag Arms Co. – Model-8 SR-25 – Some older 1st Generation rifles only ! Remington R25 GEN II DPMS - Gen-2 - .308 COLT 901 - .308 cal SIG – 716 – .308 cal
  13. I read it this way: One could, if need be, use an Armalite gas tube on a DPMS rifle to get the needed length if something non-standard is required. For example, a DPMS rifle with a mid-length gas system would have a gas tube 11 3/4" in length. If someone were to install an Armalite gas block, there is a chance an Armalite .308 carbine gas tube (12 1/16" in length) could be used to make up the approximately 3/8" difference -- it would actually be more like 5/16". However, the OP's rifle has a 9 3/4" gas tube, which would require a 10 1/8" gas tube. That is, if it is, in fact, 3/8" too short. I don't see 10 1/8" listed as a "standard length" for either DPMS or Armalite rifles of any caliber. I am still new to all AR rifles, so I may be way off base here, but that's what it looked like to my admittedly uneducated brain.
  14. I received my Fulton Armory FF handguard and barrel nut wrench yesterday. Waiting on my new gas block (should be in next week). In the meantime, I figured I'd educate myself on the proper way to torque the barrel nut (since this handguard isn't new, I'm not getting whatever install recommendations FA would typically send). I have a friend who's got a .308 AR upper vise block, and I have a good click-style torque wrench. What are the torque specs folks around here typically recommend? Or is there another trick unrelated to torque values (e.g., run the nut down hand tight, figure out where you're at on the gas tube holes, then torque until the 2nd-next hole lines up, etc.) y'all use? TIA, fellas.
  15. Wow. Cool idea, but I don't know that I'd pay $400 for it. I'd just as soon rig up something similar out of aluminum tube or lightweight PVC...
  16. Found a Fulton Armory FF handguard at a good price, not looking for this any more. Mods, feel free to close.
  17. Fulton Armory FF Handguard should be here Wednesday. Just ordered up some more FA parts -- .750" low-profile gas block, gas tube roll pin, and .030"x.750" gas block shim. Had to get a couple more parts to try and justify the $10 shipping cost...
  18. Just pulled the trigger on a FA tube on the popular online auction site. FA says they don't know when they'll be getting a new batch of the non-slotted tubes. They've been due from the supplier since December, and they're always "just a couple weeks out." Found this one online used (mounted once, guy changed his mind and removed it), with a barrel nut wrench for $100 with free shipping. Couldn't have gotten it cheaper from FA directly, that's for sure. Now to find myself a low-pro gas block. I trust FA's is good, I just don't know that I want to pay $10 shipping on a $30 part...

The education thing is no joke -- we're something like 48th or 49th in the nation when it comes to education...
  21. @blue109 As much as I'd love to have anything PRI, I think I'd be sleeping in my Jeep, cuddled up to my .308 for quite awhile. That might be fun for a night or two, but I much prefer spending my nights in my Sleep Number bed with the wife.
  22. Gotcha. I didn't know how it worked, but I figured Tapatalk had to get money somewhere along the line.
  23. I've always thought they were interesting. Handled an old one at a gun show years ago and never could picture using it. Occluding the vision of my dominant eye with the sight itself kind of turned me off. Great history behind the concept, and it would be cool to put on a "retro" build, but not my cup of tea.
  24. I've been looking for a lower-powered scope since I bought my LR-308T. The 3-12x50 that's on it is great for punching paper, but I believe it'll be a bit much for my "real" purpose -- hog hunting. I've looked at just about every option out there $400 and under (on a budget -- baby due 12/28), and the PA 1-6x24 is a real contender. I especially like the fact that, according to StrelokPro, the reticle should be dern-near dead-on out to 800 yards at 6x magnification. Not that I intend to be taking shots at hogs further than, say, 200 yards (most within 150), but it's nice to know. Anyhow... Anybody running one? What are your thoughts?
