  1. I have the .308 finished, and ashamed to say I have yet to put a pill down the barrel. I mounted a Vortex PST FFV on the top. 1 / 11 twist, hope to shoot Palma's. If they don't fly good I'll try something else. Point is I'll make her shoot. I did a lot of fitting etc., it seams tight. 2.8 lb trigger I did myself with a home made adjusting screw and a bunch of honing. I made a jig to make the screws on the lathe. Been spending hours and hours on getting my machine shop together. Hoping to get some decent weather to get out to the range soon.
  2. AMEN ! I switched from Leupold to Vortex. Got a PST FFP 6 X 24 ordered for my .308 build now. Might be a long wait.............
  3. Yeah it is. I've done others which worked out well and shoot well also. I think quality was lacking on this one.
  4. Thanks for the reply washguy. Brand is Daytona Tactical. In addition I had to do a good deal of fitting, dremel, sanding, filing, just to get the back takedown pin to mate up through the holes. The heal of the upper { part next to the buffer tube } was striking the lower at that point. I never had that happen before. After I finally got the pin to go through both holes, then the upper and lower didn't wobble, by hand anyhow..... But when 'ya light one off, there's a bunch of pressure going on at that point in time, therefore we want to minimize any movement in the system other than ejection, and putting another round in battery. Then of course keeping debris out of that area as well. And you know what else???? I just don't like that gap. I don't have it here right now to actually measure the gap, but I'd guess about .001" to .015" Some of my other AR platforms have a small gap, but nothing like the one I'm working on now. ironhorse18
  5. Not planning on treating it rough, but I will be hunting and doing some bench shooting. My greatest concern is accuracy, but when hunting we can have rain and of course snow. I always field strip and clean after a day of huntin' the woods............ Thanks for the response jtallen83. Thank you for serving our Nation! from an Old Vet
  6. Has anyone done glass bedding for the upper to the lower? Just finished my lower. The fit to the upper isn't good! Any suggestions appreciated. I 'm concerned about dust, dirt, or other debris fowling my system. I've done several bolt guns, but never an AR 10. I want this rifle to be right! HELP !.
  7. I remember the B.O.S.S. system.  My Dad had a small gun repair shop back then.  He tinkered with lots of guns / parts.  Built some nice ones as well.

  8. Thank you as well.  You folks darn sure earned your keep!  Thank you...

  13. Just signed up today. I am in the process of putting together an AR 10 in .308 Winchester at this time. Living on just my retirement income, it's to be going to take some time but that's OK. I am very interested in installing a tunable muzzle device. Anyone have a suggestion as to what manufacture to purchase? All suggestions appreciated. I have assembled 5 AR 15's prior to this. .223, 25 WSSM, 300 AAC, 6mm X 45 & .264 LBC. BUT------ this is my first AR 10 build. I have the upper & lower, fully adjustable butt stock / buffer assy, and BCG. The barrel is going to be a 24" BHW, but after more reading I'll ask for suggestions here as well. I live in West Virginia therefore my longest shot would be about 500 yds. for hunting. I will also be punching holes in paper which should be very close together I hope. Thank you, "old vet"
