Yes, good reasons. In WA 80% lowers no serial markings are legal to build but the screwy way the RCW is written some suppliers won't ship 80's here anyway. U S Patriot Armory for one. Probably figure it out next legislative session, it only is going to get worse.

@BeeKay Lots of posts going on, but going back a ways, I'm interested in your process, first two purchases 80% lower and barrel. Explain?
-
100% yes on the 5D Jig. Yes on shorter barrel, 16" AR's are nice to hunt with.
-
Really like the looks of the Wilson ultra-lite 16"
-
Thats OK, Order the wrong part and you just have seeds for the next build...
-
NO?! I do check the headspace but don't adjust. Could try some different bolts I guess. I just like to know how tight the chamber is for reloading/ resizing purposes. in half a dozen or more builds, never had an issue. All Toolcraft BCG's, multiple barrel manufactures

The lower you linked to is as good as any (As long as you checked the 308 box!) I usually go with the AMT anodized billets but recently got a Noreen just because I wanted raw/ forged. Both well under $100.00 Most important is upper and lower play fair. Shouldn't have a problem with the barrel/ upper. I try to stay with DPMS pattern low rail uppers.

I'm not a machinist, but I am quite the hack with a mill and a lathe.

Hey, BK, welcome to the forum. I have done several 80%, can't help you with compatibility but I would think they should both fit the same upper. Sounds like a cool build. Post links to the barrel and lower, we'll take a look. Look for sales on Toolcraft BCG, should get one for $70+ or so. Toolcraft seems to be most everyone around here's goto BCG. As far as 80%: I really like the 5D Pro jig, get on their mailing list they have 10% off sales all the time. so far did a AR40, several AR15's, and 2 large frame AR's. Exceptional results. Keep us posted.

+1 on that. In a good vice these are rock solid. Also, for this application in particular, I grind a punch out of a piece of drill rod with just enough tip to go about 1/2 way into the bolt. Can hit it really hard and doesn't bend like mild steel or brass.

I invited @aadavis94 over from another board because he was having problems, he has verified correct components and fixed all the common problems and did a pretty good job of describing it. All the information is there so Yes, @montanamac, Maybe you should have read the entire thread before you made your unhelpful comment, wouldn't have bothered me but I'm not known to have any feelings. ANYWAY, back to the subject I'm still thinking adjustable gas block and maybe 6.8 oz buffer. You still with us, aadavis94?
-
Yes, aware. Did get a trigger jig the other day so I'll try tuning up some the Milspec FCG's I've accumulated. Have a CMC coming to replace his RA for now.

@Jcunning19 Good to here you are running smooth! Curious: So I tried to get a Tubbs flat wire to compress down to a 2-1/2" buffer a while back, wouldn't do it. Bolt would not clear the bolt catch. had to go to the 7-3/4" tube and 3.25" buffer. Part # on the flatwire spring you purchased? Did the AP Enhanced kit you mention include buffer, spring, extension tube and 2-1/2" buffer? Part #? Buffer weight? What exactly was the difference between that and what you replaced? The AP enhanced and the Armalite AR-10 Carbine recoil are completely different animals, from my understanding, The AP is based on AR15 buffer extension tube with a shorter buffer, Armalite same buffer length as AR15 carbine with longer recoil extension tube. (Heavier buffer as well) This info will help others, thanks.

Got a response from Armor Alley said they were reaching out to Rise Armament for a RMA. Week 2....

500 rounds of 9mm with the correct case feeder plate went quickly. 200 rounds 124 gr Xtreme/ 5.8 gr VV3N37/ Winchester SPP for the shield, 300 w/ 6.2 gr VV3N37/ Federal SPP for the tupperware. Federal small pistol primers are getting scarce, down to my last 1K, still have a sleeve or two of Winchester and plenty of Large Pistol, LPM, LR, LRM, SPM, SR in Federal and a bunch of misc Wolf and Winchester. Had to go to Cabelas to re-up the Federal Small Pistol, everyone else out. Probably run out another 500 9's and then switch calibers to 45 LC today. 250gr XTPs over 15.2 AA#7 for the Carbine, 300XTPs over a chock full case of H110 for the PPR, and a bunch of 250 Xtremes over 6?gr Titegroup for general range work. Probably run some full blow 454 if I have any XTP Magnum bullets laying around. The Perfect Packin Revolver 4-5/8 Blackhawk 45 LC in a Bladetech. 21-22 grains of H110 gets the 300 gr XTP's out the business end in the 1100 to 1200 fps range. SD's all over the place and doubles as a fire starter but WTH 1 round should disable most critters and discourage the rest.

AR10 bolt locking forward with dummy rounds
Albroswift replied to Mr.Coffee's topic in General Discussion
I tap towards the rear on the charging handle with a small rubber mallet when I get one stuck. Haven't seen any detrimental effects from the procedure. Slamming the butt down does use the mass of the BCG to advantage but the little mallet doesn't frighten the other members at the range like banging the rifle up and down could. -
After following this forum over the last couple of years seems like large frame AR builders ain't up to the same rigorous QA/QC that Harley or Ducati uses .
-
@MiddleLuke Got me stirred up so I went out to the shop, tried several tubes in a Toolcraft BCG with only 30 or 40 rounds through it. None had any resistance but they were all really close. no significant rubbing when aligned.

I believe the "Mushroom Head" is designed to allow break in and good gas seal without wear or resistance on the tube. The "Mushroom" is the same diameter as the tube, except for where it is cut down couple thousands for the inch or two right before the "Mushroom". I would think a small amount of resistance should be normal, but I'm sure someone more expert then myself will come along and confirm.

Like the looks of the Wiz Bang guys shop in the background of the video, I don't feel so bad now...
-
If it barley cleared the chamber I'm going with no powder. Primers can get them up the barrel a bit with pistol primers. Had some 223 that I thought had bad primers, actually no powder and bullets didn't move at all.

@Scott Perkins Regardless of above comments, would really like some more/ better photos in the name of science. Also, no manufacturer or S/N: quite possible you will run into issues buying or selling, don't know what the laws are in your state but it would be tough to get it to fly here in WA. Maybe the S/N: and manufacture name and address is on the other side, check it out.

It doesn't have the lines of a Aero, even if Aero sold 80% forgings. It doesn't have the lines of a AMT 80% or one of the many that look identical and probably come from the same mill. It DOES have the basic lines of a DPMS/ little bit of curve bottom rear of trigger guard most others are straight.

Albro-zhimers strikes again-- Swapped the Dillon from large rifle to .40 S&W yesterday: tool head, plate, flipping the case dropper riser from rifle to pistol, large primer to small primer seating button and tube, good cleaning, changing the case feeder plate. About 200 rounds into the 155gr XTP +P loads already had about 3 cases come down the tube upside down, and two log jambs at the funnel end of the case feed tube. Man, don't think I've had this much BS in 25 years, what's up? Probably loaded more .40 then anything else on the 650. Power through another 50 or so before I noticed the pistol plate for the case feeder hanging on the wall. Had the large rifle plate in the feeder. Doh... Thing is I remember taking the hopper off the stand and removing the plate. Must have vacuumed out the hopper and put the rifle plate right back in. Dumped out the brass, swapped the plates, ran out another 400 or so without a hitch.
