yeah, I been slacking myself, although I did have a nice "New Year's Eve Range Session with the "Dirty Little Thirty", 308 AR, Springer .45, and S&W M&P .40, all at 110 yds, first time I had the handguns at 110 since early spring, I was hitting 12" to the right with both handguns, elevation was decent... Kinda a let down not to be getting all those "presents" in the mail that I did during my build, lol Happy New Year Bub,,, I was looking at a Honda CBX,, that may be just what I really need! Ice storm here overnight though, LOL!

Happy New Year Gentlemen, I've missed you guys, we had a wedding and lots of associated fun for the last month... I also found a 300 Ham'r thread on the Texas Hunting Forum, and I've been reading that thread, my rifle is running with the H2 buffer and standard buffer spring, but still won't cycle the 125 Hornady FMJ's, I think they are a little wimpy honestly. It runs the 110's and LOVES the 135 Speer, so all good.. I will of course have to play with it some more, Wilson has a 37 flat coil spring to replace the 40 coil, or Bill says cut 3 loops off the 40... so we will see.. I spent the day working on 3241T ango, Dan's bird is in for annual, and he has a few serious sqawks, had to rebuild alternator, tightened up the exhaust pipe clamp on the power flow exhaust, and has a persistant oil leak??

Nice post 98, and I like your rifles Bub, did you get that 358 running yet? The newlywed's have returned to base, I think they were glad to get home, (we had an amazing time), and I know Arlie was back in his element and smiling like a Cheshire cat, walking about like a man! LOL

Greetings from the frozen prairie of Central Obamastan!

So who's billet receivers?? all great looking rifles!

Okay, the "Dirty Little Thirty" is still all clean and sitting in the safe, Mollie, Arlie, and Jacob flew in from Arizon, Saturday evening, and are getting married in a real church this coming Saturday afternoon, and I had to go back to work Monday after school being closed for two weeks to hopefully head off the "Thanksgiving Covid SPIKE! anyway, on the Texas Hunting Forum, there is a 300 Ham'r thread, 50 pages of it, Bill Wilson very actively participating, sharing bullets and loads, hunts, and actively helping those with functioning issues and entertaining serious requests for good information.. I signed up, but so far, I'm just reading the Hammer thread, lots of good information there. I'm going to try to get back out and get that Hornady 125 FMJ functioning shortly, stand bye, wedding shortly... LOL, then I will be broke!

My point exactly, the swamp Monster returns all NUKED up, HELL, you know Nancy Pelosi has to have transfusions of "zombie blood", hairdressor my ass, she was going in for her two week nuclear infused botox! thats why she doesn't need a mask, she's not really breathing, just running on nuclear botox... hell, for all we know she has to visit area 51 every two weeks??? But back to business, the dims don't like Biden, he embarrasses the hell out of em, but Kamala is the real player, how far left can you stretch your??? she can go you one better, lol!

Yes Sir, I'm sold, good cleaning, great lube, and just getting broken in, it sounds completely different when I cycle it manually. Thats what Jason from Wilson Combat recommended, said his HAM'R runs great! Oh, yeah Obiden-Scarrus!! she is a scary chick, Joe already called Don and asked him to pardon him and Jim, and Hunter, said he'd give him 50% of his 10%... Don's thinkin about it?? lol Gosh we are going to miss the Trumpster, them dumb sumbee's outsmarted us again with the help of the swamp creatures from HELL! Question??? how long will it take the dim's to get rid of Biden?? will they take him out right after the inauguration? or maybe early summer, lol...
-
yeah, damn, I felt so sorry for you, lol... H2's back in that "Dirty Little Thirty", she's happy with Hornady 110's and Speer 135's, but she don't like those Hornady 125 FMJ's, and I thought those would cycle like hot butter.... Those Lancer's are amazing, when I first saw those stupid looking metal feed lips bonded to a poly mag, I thought that was the dumbest dang thing I had ever heard!
-
Break it in!
-
Roger that, I know you would, this chick needs to be shot, a lot! 6 consecutive rounds of 110 SP Hornady at 2650 fps, (per Wilson specs out of an 18" barrel), no sweat with H1... I did have some failures when I went back to the 125 FMJ's at 2450 fps, 16 rounds and then home due to having an appt with #1 son to go to lawyer,, yeah, we've been there, the big D. anyway, scrubbed the "Dirty Little Thirty" with my chamber brush and bore brush, and yes, it was a little cruddy, BCG still nice and lubed up, light wipe and more lube.. When I got home Wilson Combat 135 gr Speer, 3 FDE trim rail covers, armorers kit for trim rail, and 3 brand spanking new Lancer 300 Magazines.... Tonight, Wilson has the 110's and 125's back in stock,,,, I promise I will re-install the H2 as this thing gets broken in, just for grins and giggles, and if somebody has an H3 send it to me, I would love to see how that functions, and I would love to use that damn 40 coil spring... I hate buying "kool chit" that don't work, but now Wilson has switched that back to 37 coils... You know I really do try to follow your lead my friend, and I've been reading practically every damn thing you've ever written about gas ports, buffers, buffer springs and receiver extensions... and spending a LOT of time in the 300 Black thread, lots of good info there on the 300 Ham'r... and yeah, I'm starting to figure out why I'm the only person on 308AR.com with a Ham'r.. but dammit, I love this thing! I know you don't recall, but when I joined, I wanted a slik barrel with NO threads, (yeah I've got thread protectors on them both), and a rifle length buffer assembly... (I can't help it, I like that stupid carbon fiber rifle length stock that Wilson sell for way to damn much money) I also made it clear that I wanted 30 cal holes in the target that I could see.... But, little "Miss Wilson" had that carbine caboose and the folding stock, that dang thing is handy!, it will go in the same short bag as the "Dirty Little Thirty", that has made carry my rifle around the farm in/on a vehicle so much easier... I think a need a scabbard for my tractor and gater, lol.. anyway, I owe this whole little adventure to you guys, especially you big Daddy, and I LOVED your blonde "butt bagg" in your long range at the OK corral thread, you know being broke and all, and having all this beautiful Krap coming in those lovely Wilson Combat, Brownell's, and even Optics Planet boxes... those magazines should change this up in my favor, we'll see, and I'm praying on top of all that, Merry Christmas Dudes!

Same here, Greetings Comrade, from Central Obamastan!

Shooter, when I got to the range this morning and loaded my ammo in that little steel ASC mag, I filled it up, (5 rnd), what I noticed is that whole stack of ammo was pointing off to the left about 5 to 10 degrees, I pushed it up and down several times. So I loaded the aluminum 5 rnd ASC's samo, samo! all of them pointing off to the left... so I unloaded those as well. So I got out one of those 300 Black Magpul 30 rounders and loaded 6 rounds of the Hornady 110's in it, all square and business like, it picked up and fired all 6 rounds, a first, and locked back on the empty mag,,, success. Then I switched back to the Hornady 125's, I think it fired two, and then I removed it and reseated the the first of 4 rounds and it fired all four, but did not lock back on the empty mag.. So I loaded the other Magpul 300 black mag and it cycled the first two, and fired two more and jammed, removed the mag and it picked up the last two, and locked back on the empty mag.
-
Yes Sir, we will check that out first thing this morning at the range...
-
I spent a good bit of time with my chamber brush and a really good copper solvent when I got back home yesterday afternoon. I'm convinced that it is a very tight chamber, (this dang thing wants to shoot), I have been shooting 5 rounds and cleaning, I prolly had 12-15 rounds yesterday, it was trying to cycle and that was very encouraging... I may try bore cleaning paste on a mop?? but I'm just going to shoot it and clean it for now.. Wilson did have their Hornady 125 gr FMJ back in stock yesterday, maybe I'll try to pick up another couple of boxes of that.

If you want to send me an H3 buffer to try, I will do that, and if it works I will buy it from you, if not I'll send it back. What spring my friend?? refresh my memory?? I'm so damn far into this money and time wise there's no turning back. It didn't want to cycle with the H2 buffer, and it does seem to wanting to cycle with the H1... I tried the heavy buffer first! I'm running Wilson's standard buffer spring that comes in their kit. This ALL reminds me of why I'm a 98 Mauser guy!
-
I don't doubt you 98, I know the first damn thing you would have likely done is drill that gas port and forced that heavy buffer spring into submission! (No, I'm not gonna do that yet, I hate like hell though, to pull this barrel and send it back to "Wilson Combat"... Lamar was gonna ship me another 300 Ham'r, but the supervisor put an end to a good man's plan. "Wilson Combat, is out to take care of Wilson Combat", you can quote me on that, they have the nicest and most knowledgeable staff on the planet, but, in the end, Lamar came back and said, you will have to send your barrel back and then we will send you another barrel, (which is NOT fluted), that's what it says on our web site!! Wilson is NOT making any fluted barrels these days, they are running CNC wide open and can't keep up with the regular stuff... Anyway, I'm gonna work on getting this thing "broke in"! FYI Wilson Combat is NOW producing 18" non fluted Tactical Hunter 300 HAM'R barrels with a "mid-length" gas tube, and has shortened the 40 coil buffer spring to 37 coils. I think we can safely deduce that they realize they were "undergassed" and "over assed"!

Its good and clean now, I had a dozen rounds through it, I think it hung up going into battery, in fact I took my thumb and attempted to push it into battery when the trigger "locked up"... It wouldn't budge. So I attempted to operated the charging handle and it was def hung up, so a couple of good pulls and out she came... No bullet visible on that case, and I'm thinking, only two bangs, three cases?? picked it up and sure enough, no primer strike, then I look into the chamber from the side and see some "gunk", so I sprayed that out with WD-40, (no I don't use that to lube, but I did use Rem oil, I think that could be part of the problem, its watery and goes away), then popped my upper off knowing what I was gonna find. I didn't have a rod or anything to clear the bullet, so I sacked it up and shot the "Miss Wilson", who is just a sweety, and fired a couple of groups with her, (as noted, the brass just dribbles out of that girl, I need to open up that gas block, but not until the "Dirty Little Thirty") is fully operational. I'm NOT impressed with Magpul's 300 "Blackout" mags, but they are 30 rounders, my 5 round ASC aluminum mags are also unimpressive, my one and only 5 round steel ASC, is my one happy mag, I've got 3 10 round Lancer's coming from you know who..
-
Now that sounds good!
-
Yes Sir!
-
So to recap 98 3/32/0.94" gas port, standard Wilson 7" carbine receiver extension, standard Wilson buffer spring, Brownells H1 buffer, Wilson Combat BCG, drop in trigger, and 18" Tactical Hunter with intermediate gas tube.. I tried the H2, and I may try it again. The Magpul 300 Black 30 rounders are crap, I'm waiting on some 10 round Lancers for the 300 Black.. My ugly little steel ASC 5.56 mag seems to be trying to work, the aluminum ASC's are as pathetic as the Magpul.. Now my big AR in 308 loves those Magpul, ASC steel five round mags, and the Lancer 20s, so, its just a matter of getting the "Dirtly Little Thirty" to fly in a closer formation!
