  1. Yeah, you're right but I love you man, if NOT for YOU, I would have never bought a 308AR, if NOT for you I would certainly not have built my small frame Bill et 300 Ham'r, (I know that wasn't your first choice of caliber for my rifle),, if not for YOU! I never would have had the patience to get that Ham'r running like a freight train... I realized after I started getting the Ham'r to run, that my 308 AR was a lazy ejector, I put off what I thought was a simple gas block adjustment until I had the Ham'r purring like a kitten... I then took the 308 out and opened that gas block all the way! guess what, NOTHING! so here we go... Thanks Bub, and there are lots of other guys on here that I owe... but the body of research you have published here is really priceless, I kinda, sorta actually am starting to understand my rifles, and that is awesome... all because of your experience, and your research, and your writing about it in a legible coherent, consistent manner,,, you should get a pulitzer on the 308AR, and all the other AR's as well! well done my friend, but my mind is scary enough... now this may sound like azz kissing and bullshiet, but its all true bullshiet!
  2. Good for you!
  3. I've been having similar issues with my 308, dribbling empty's out on the truck hood.. I was undergassed, and have now drilled up 3 times, I bought a heavy buffer and a KAK rounded ejector, I ran fine tonight with the new .990 gas port, heavy buffer, and 40 coil flat wire buffer spring with the XM80's that made me realize I had a problem.. thanks you you and 98, I've had some insight on this issue. I have not installed the KAK ejector yet as I didn't have time before dark, but I'm fairly certain I will in due time. Thanks to 308AR forum and you fine gents.
  4. Can you post links to your calculations, ? I'm still looking for the sweet spot.. I'm trying to get that to sink in I'd say 98% of our gas port posts have your fingerprints all over them...
  5. Dang, I just saw this,,, "area of the gassing port hole"! love it MrMackc...
  6. Thanks, your gas port needs to be opened up, especially if you want to run the heavy buffer. My 18", rifle gas, Wilson Combat shipped with a 3.8 oz, 2.5" buffer and the 40 coil flat wire spring with adjustable gas block.. my gas port was around .082, it ran fine, ejecting, locking back and picking up rounds off the top of the magazine, but is very lethargic on ejection... especially with the M80 ball. On the other hand if you run some 168 gr 308, it may function and lock back just fine??
  7. I bet they did too! it won't run without gas!
  8. and there you go, undergassed!
  9. I think I just said that with my unsolicited apology my friend??? yes??? and to the mod's please feel free to delete any and all of my posts in this thread??
  10. I'm certain the port is lined up, if I plug the chamber and blow in the barrel it sounds like a hurricane and no restriction at all, now that I opened up the gas port to 3/32's", it was definitely undergass prior to being opened up... I put a 13 1/2" Carbine spring in today today with the 3.8oz carbine buffer that Wilson Combat runs in all their WC-10's, I'd like to run the Heavy 5.4 oz 2.50 inch buffer. that 40 coil flat wire spring will function, ejects, locks back, and feed's fine, but the ejection is very lethargic, especially with the 149gr Winchester White box. I had to much azz for my gaz! Wilson has now discontinued the 40 coil flat spring and has shortened it 3 coils, they offer an AR-15 37 coil spring and a WC-10 37 coil recoil spring... anyway, apologies to DaWhip for high jacking your thread man, how is your rifle running now?
  11. Hey, they make good stuff, not cheap, I'm sure lots of their parts are made by other vendors, but the billet receivers and barrels are all machined in house. I bought one and built one, I decided to stick with as many of their parts as possible to eliminate mismatched issues.. and if I have a problem, I can PM Bill Wilson, he's been very helpful getting the "dirty little thirty" sorted out, but frankly what I've learned here on 308AR Forum has been priceless.. yourself, 98, AlbroSwift, and on down the line... this is still the best AR forum on the planet. for what its worth, the "Dirty Little Thirty" is running like a turbine, and yes I did have to play with it and swap a few parts, most importantly an H2 buffer, but you are right about one thing, its been rough on my checking account and credit card... now I'm gonna have to figure out what to do with those RCBS dies...
  12. the gas tube is too short by about 3/16's of an inch or so? So an ArmaLite gas tube to start and since he has yet to eject a single round, or lock the bolt back during firing, I'd say its possible that gas port is also still too small, but that's just my 2 cents.. "Miss Wilson" was cycling and locking back on an empty mag, but just dribbling brass out on my truck hood... I assumed the adjustable gas block needed to be opened up. Winchester 149 gr white box @ 2790 fps made that more noticeable, opening up the gas block did not improve the situation. So I drilled it up to 3/32's" and put the 40 coil flat wire back in it, it functions fine now that I opened up the gas port, ejection is still on the weak side, I'm very hesitant to open the port up beyond 3/32's"? so I'm gonna order Wilson's new 37 coil flat wire buffer spring to replace my current 40 coil flat wire??
  13. Well it seems that I will be in good company on the interpretation team... how did you enjoy your little snow? My SIL got to take his first HH-60G flight yesterday, lots of mush in the back, which of course melted, just wearing BDU's a Jacket and pair of headphones... 3 hours of "missile evasion" and a couple of thousand rounds of .50 cal expended, he stated all he could see was sky and dirt, no doubt very low, and very fast, he was rather proud that he didn't have to use a single "barf bag" of the half dozen he was handed.. Frozen and no doubt all shook up? he was on the floor, tied down in a harness to a tie down ring, kid is a good sport, I'm proud of him... his old man is very "gunny", building 1919 30 cals up from cut ups, I'm looking forward to my first range session with those babies!
  14. translation: it will lock back on an empty magazine when cycled with the charging handle... when fired, the bolt hangs up on the magazine before the shell has ejected...
  15. I'm in Greenfield, about 3 to 4 hours South of you... still here in Central Obamastan!
  16. I hear you, my 37 coil flat wire spring from Wilson Combat came in today, I tried to run my small frame 300 Ham'r on what used to be their hot set up 40 coil flat wire, and wasn't even getting it to lock back... so standard spring and H2 buffer, Bill asked me why I was running an H2 buffer, it wouldn't pick up the second round off the top of the mag. any way, they are going to 37 coils, and have one for small frame and one for large frame.. I'll save that 40 coil for a spare for my large frame rifle. Thanks for giving us an update, I still think you are going to have to drill that gas port, but as the experts reminded us, one thing at a time, LOL. Oh and Wilson has gone to a mid length gas port on their 18" 300 Ham'r barrels, as they were undergassed with the 13.25" intermediate length gas tube...
  17. or maybe it is the time to build?? ain't this the absolue shiites, and yeah, I've been thinking about 30-06 Mauser's for the AR's, nice ones, but I jus don't think I can give "Miss Wilson" and the "Dirty Little .30" up?? my 37 coil Wilson Flat Ware Sprang cam in today...oh and a few more lancers and a couple of Bolt springs... now that the shiites has hit the fan...
  18. Make a helluva snake gun 98, but I think what you really need, now that your stretching your luck,,, oh I mean super human eyeballs out to a mile, is the Nemo, side charge 18" 300 Magnum, don't even think about a pistol length? now that is SEXY!!!! maybe you already have one of those as your "truck gun", LOL! somebody post it up,, I wanna hear what y'all think, you know I LOVE .30 Cal, 308, 300 Ham'r, and now 300 win mag, but I'm thinking the 24" barrel would be a lot less fun, but a lot more comfy for an OLD MAN??
  19. Kool, come by and pick me up!
  20. Thanks for updating us Billy, I was particularly interested because I was trying to find a slick sided BCG without the cuts for the F/A, don't be a stranger Bub!

  21. Thanks for your report Turf! I had some similar issues early on with the "dirty little .30f" (I would have never believed I would buy a brown gun, FDE, LOL) that got better when I got a 300 blk pmag, and went away completely with the Lancer 10 round mags.
  22. Welcome from the frozen prairies of Central Obamastan
  23. Nice looking wife, and nice little hog, I'm sure you will get along with your Rock River just fine, and I shoot mostly soft points in several .30 cal AR's, so you should be fine... these guys know all about suppressors and I believe the adjustable gas block should get you up and running. Welcome from Central Obamastan!
  24. Hi Billy, I just saw your BCG, I am contemplating a new billet upper in 6.5 Creed, is this still available? thanks billy
