  1. Thanks a ton... Looking forward to hearing results...
  2. Thanks gentsโ€ฆ
  3. LOL... Not sure if the lower is an Aero M4E1 - or something else... but I've got a little stack of bare M4E1 lowers stashed somewhere... might have to transfer parts into one of them to keep him from going apey on me. I just picked up an Arken SH4 6-24... its not Nightforce or S&B or... but its better than the other stuff I've got. I'm learning that part of the game right now. I'm just getting the AR-10 sorted out (just bought it a month ago). The primary reason for thinking about going 5.56 was the idea that I might be able to get away with shooting green-tip stuff as I ramp up - I don't have any supply of heavier match grade 5.56 stuff - and I've only got a couple hundred rounds of the match grade 7.62X51 168 gr stuff - and replacing it is stupid spendy right now. Anyway - I'll figure it out and be there with something... ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Thanks a ton. If I go small gun I've got a pretty basic PSA 223 Wylde upper (18" 1:7 stainless heavy barrel) that picked up as part of a bundle from a friend. Pretty sure it has their "better than basic" BCG and has never had rounds through it. Lower is pretty vanilla but with an SSA-E trigger. I'll put some long skinny bullets through it in the next weekend or two and see how it goes.
  5. Found this article referenced in a few places... So far I'm finding it pretty informative. There are some 'obvious' things - but good new info as well. https://www.sierrabullets.com/reload-basics/reloading-for-semi-autos-and-service-rifles/
  6. Thanks a ton! Found it here:
  7. Thanks much Sisco... that's the sort of info I'm hoping to bundle! Do I understand correctly that your AR10T is the Armalite original heavy barrel gun? Very nice group by the way... ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. OK - I've done a bit of digging - and have come up with some related discussions - but I've not found a "share your recipe" type thread. I'm going to start working on a load for match rounds for my AR-10(T). I get that a big part of the process is figuring out what my gun likes - but I'd love to get any insights about reloading match rounds for the platform. I'm sure that there are plenty of differences between these loads and some of the accepted .308 loads for bolt bench guns etc. So - starting point load data? Particulars around what to look for and avoid regarding how the loads interact with the gas systems on these guns? Heavy 20" 1:10 twist barrel - conventional wisdom says that it is going to be happiest with 168 or 175 grain bullets - but as I dig and read I hear folks sharing anecdotal stories about going heavier and being happy with the results. I'd like to assume that my 2.820" OAL for the M1A will be the same as my magazines appear to be a modification of the M1A mags - yes? I'm sure that I'll go through plenty of trial and error here - but appreciate any insights that you all care to share. Thanks!
  9. Now a serious question... For those shooting 5.56 - I've truly never bought / made match ammo in that caliber - but I'm thinking about putting something together for next month and am curious as to what rounds you guys are shooting (candidly - I'm curious as to whether anyone is shooting basic 62gr stuff - or is everyone shooting match stuff). Given that I have a pretty good lot of 62gr stuff - and I can buy 68gr match rounds for less than the price of components for match 7.62X51, I'm thinking about starting out with a pea-shooter instead of the AR-10. Thoughts?
  10. As to the swing - I asked what the "maximum safe load" was on the one that they had - I didn't get an answer. That 2X2 looks to be pretty heavy wall - it better be... LOL. Pretty sure that I've got 4 chunks of 4X4 X 1/2" wall stuff that might hold me... ๐Ÿ˜›
  11. <@BigNate runs away in terror> Just kidding... It was great to meet you guys - I'm looking forward to being out next month to embarrass myself. ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. Too much truth hereโ€ฆ
  13. I found a brick of BR-2s for $105.... and yes - I bought it...
  14. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Magpul... I've got a 223 Wyld build in the works that I think will be the place to try the abarms unit and /or luth...
  15. I've got the engine already... Truck Gen 2 with mustang cams, Boundary OPG and sprocket, etc... Turbos are little 57mm units with maps that run out to about 500HP of air each - with 400HP of air in the high efficiency area of the map. Planning to tune to about 700 initially and then creep towards 800 whp and end there... until that stops terrifying me and I decide to build a forged internals coyote. I "MIGHT" go gen 3 at that point - although I'm not sure that the headache of the direct injection is worth what I'd get out of it at that point. Lots and lots of work to do before I'm even considering the next engine. The coyote is HUGE up top - bigger / wider than the FE (352) that came out of the car so I'm hacking away at the frame rails (in front of the suspension) and working on fabbing in rack and pinion. The 6R80 is big too - likely going to have to cut the transmission tunnel as well. After that header fab and then the big suck of wiring and other non-mechanical stuff. For now - I'm mostly stalled because cutting and welding in a non-air-conditioned garage in Phoenix in the summer is somewhere between "this sucks a lot" and "you're gonna die..." I'll get after it again in October... ๐Ÿ™‚
  16. Yep - it is going on the AR-10(T) that is going to be used almost exclusively off a bench and / or prone against paper and steel. I'll let you know what I think - although it is the first adjustable buttstock that I've owned - my frame of reference will be stock stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. It looks like things are starting to settle. Last week one of our local shops - Tombstone Tactical - was advertising on local radio that they had 500K rounds of 124 grain target 9mm in stock at about 45 cents per round with no purchase limit. I bought a couple of matches worth... I've also started seeing 7.62X51 NATO stuff at Sportsmans at about 80 cents a round (in 20 round boxes). It sounds like demand is waning a bit and the shelves are filling up. Now for primer prices to come back down. I dream of the day when I can buy a brick of primers for $35... LOL
  18. Working on my 1965 Ford Custom. For those who are not old Ford guys - the "Custom" was the most basic trim package on the Galaxie body style. They got sold as delivery vehicles, cop cars, cabs, etc. Mine is a 2 door post car that was my best friend's first car. We spent lots of time wrenching on it when we were teenagers and later in life when I was looking for a pre '67 car (pre-emissions) he sold it to me. The same ZZ Top keychain and fuzzy dice are hanging from the rear-view mirror. It is getting a gen 2 coyote 5.0 (the new mustang engines) and a couple of small turbos. It should be a handful when it runs.
  19. Thanks Gents... Good info.
  20. LOLโ€ฆ. That new one seems like my kind of guy!
  21. Who said they are not imaginary? I told you - I can hear them from here! ๐Ÿ˜›
  22. LOL - I can hear my friends laughing at this from here...
  23. OK- so I'm planning to yank and store the factory buttstock on the AR10(T) and replace it with an adjustable buttstock. I'm looking a the Magpul PRS Gen 3 and the Luth-AR MBA-1. I've sent an e-mail off to Luth-AR to confirm that the MBA-1 is the right model for my AR 10. Question 1 - am I missing a competitor that I should be considering? I don't want to do this a second time. Question 2 - I'm thinking about the stuff below - what am I missing? The Luth-AR is about $60-$70 cheaper than the Magpul - but once you add the rail for a monopod for $35 that gap closes a bunch The Luth-AR claims to be about 1/2 the weight of the Magpul. I will be shooting this gun almost exclusively from a bench or a shooting mat (prone) and the gun is already so heavy that it'll never be something that I'm planning to lug through the mountains with me - so weight is not a real issue for me and in some ways heavier may actually be better (when taking friends / relatives shooting and letting them shoot this, the heavier it is the more fun it will be for folks newer to shooting). Both appear to have the adjustability that I'm looking for and as near as I can tell both are well made. The Luth-AR comes from what "feels" like a smaller American company - no clue if that is true. If it is I'd rather support them than the larger company (if all else is equal). I can find the Magpul in OD-green and the furniture on the rifle is OD Green so that is a plus. I don't see that as an option with Luth-AR If I end up having to get black I can live with it - I'm a "function over form" guy... Looking for experience and wisdom here... ...and..... GO! ๐Ÿ™‚
  24. I've got no problem with long haired hippies - as long as they just want to smoke their smoke and leave things alone. It is the "in your business, commie, eco-wacko, super-Karen, animals are all 'fur-babies' and should be treated like children" type Californians that we need to stop at the border.
