Another DPMS G2 in .260 Rem with minor short stroking problems!
98Z5V replied to Defcon-One's topic in General Discussion
Think about the ammo that you'll be using. Do you load your own/handload? If not, and you're going to use commercial ammo... some will be stout, some will be weak. That's when you need more gas port diameter, the weaker ones. Good job on bringing the port up, little at a time, and testing - that's really the best way, once you find that ammo that your gun likes. I have a badass handload for my .260 that's running the 147gr Hornady ELD-M projectile. Perfect function with my (then) 0.070" gas port diameter. Some of by other handloads wouldn't even cycle the action or move the BCG. By several load manual refences, those loads should have been pretty powerful loads, too. Nope. My moment of rational clarity, even though I'd been denying it for awhile, was when I shot some NEXUS ammo loaded with 139gr Lapua Scenar projectiles... Wouldn't cycle the gun. I punched it up to 0.080" that next weekend. Runs fine now, with anything that I throw at it. Wilson Combat even increased their gas port diameter from 0.070" (what mine was when I bought it) to the current offering of 0.080". This was long after I found out what I did, though. -
It's a good barrel, from a great company,as far as barrels go. It's not bad. Every barrel likes a certain load more than others, though. Finding the ammo is just a search for what the barrel likes. That's why I load my own, honestly. Tune the load for that barrel, and it's on, after that. The the .260 Rem, I only have one, so it gets that handload. For .308, I find a load that works in the 18" Mk11 and the 20" Rem 700 - and I stick with that load. It would suck if the same load didn't work for both. I have some 5.56 guns like that. Certain load for these 3, but that other little bastard... gets it's own load. Luckily, for Grendel, the same load works for all of them, quite well. It's just trial and error, man - finding what your barrel likes. Tell you what - if that barrel doesn't like Federal Gold Medal Match, then it might have issues. Excellent ammunition. Try both 168gr FGMM and 175gr FGMM through it. At 100 yards, I doubt you could tell the difference between the two. At 600 yards, there would be a slight difference, with the 175s winning out. At 800 yards, there's a very real difference in the two, with the 175s smoking the 168s. Glad that thing is running - that's fantastic news! FWIW - Hornady American Gunner in the Grendel load - doesn't shoot for shiit through my Grendel family. It's not bad - but it's not what I'd call accurate, either.

You should definitely build a Grendel. Hands down, it's the most effective cartridge ever designed for the small-frame AR, bar none. Nothing else even comes close. Oh, and yes, I did build a .224 Valkyrie, to compare to the Grendel. The Valk doesn't hold a candle to the Grendel. No way.

The message won't be taken seriously, unless it has impact. That's the best way to learn a lesson.

I FOUND HIM, BROTHER! But, HE isn't... He's a SHE. And she has 3 little ones! Amazing discovery today! "He" was poking that head out of the hole when I was coming home from work, so I pulled over, down the street. Wanted to walk back and get a closer pic, but at about 20 feet away - spooked the owl- flew off, to the ground across the road, and settled in the dirt about 100 yards away. Since I was there, I checked out the hole in the ground. BONES EVERYWHERE! I didn't want to get too close, so I just zoomed in a little... FUK YEAH! Dove and Pigeon parts! Hold on, fuk is THAT? Little bird head in that hole?... Damn right - 3 little baby owls down in that hole! That was MOMMA Owl that I was looking at this whole time! I'll keep you updated, brother.

New ones need to be almost like this - dripping with lube...

First Ex-Wife from central Maine, parents owned a dairy farm. Country-as-fuk, for Maine, and all the brothers and sisters mixed in. 8 years of that, with visits, so I can interpret that pretty well, brother. That's the basis for my skills, with your Cunuck ass...

They're vicious about it - I condemn them.

For those that don't know - where that came from...

Welcome aboard, and thanks for posting an Intro. So many don't... Commendations to you for doing it. Start another thread in this section, and tell us what distances you want this thing to go, for longer ranges, what your goal is for the overall gun performance - stuff like that. It's easier to zero in on suggestions, when we know what YOUR expectations are of the gun. https://forum.308ar.com/forum/12-general-discussion/

Wasn't MY pronunciation, can say that. I can instruct, people practice it, get it, and then they go perform it. My Assistant Instructor, though - there's a reason I'm his DI - Designated Interpreter. Sometimes he even stumps me, though. Then, you add that Cunuck fucker into the mix - BOTH of them at the SAME TIME... and I've got my hands full... They make me drink.

DAMN!!! Look at that ejector spring!!!

WORK ADDRESS, brother. Work address. Don't ship it to the house - I don't want a Porch Pirate getting it. I'll set my game cams up this weekend, out front, just in case... Tell Zack I Love Him... ❤️❤️❤️

I've played that game here before, on these guys, and got it through on them, too - you've done quite well, and should be commended. I suspected that you were up to something, and tossed The Rule out there... So, are you the fisherman... or the fish...
-
Indeed - I have a full set of them, in quite the intricate extraction set, just for that purpose. Removing broken bolts and screws is an artform, to be practiced with the appropriate extraction tools. It takes practice.

That's a SMALL gas port in that barrel, if it's running right. Stick around, and review some information. Tell the guy to run a 3.7oz buffer isn't normal - that's usually what fucks these guns up. Oh, and they're 3.8oz buffers, for H1 buffer weight. Bad advice, on your part.

Speaking of the ShockWave... @Robocop1051 still has one of mine.
-
That's a great reason why you need a ShockWave Night Stick, brother. I just found the justification for you...

Hank in Attack-Mode!

Cavemen dealt with it. We just need to embrace out inner-caveman, and start fucking up threats. If it wants to eat you, kill you, or sting you - kill it first. Caveman Rules, in full effect, from here forward...
-
That's some "artificial strawberry" pu$sy, right there. If it don't taste like peaches, it's FAKE...

He's my pimp, never fails to deliver. If he's on the hook, I'm on the hook...

The clock might be ticking... You were quite careful in the way you phrased it, but weeeeeeee knoooooow...

You ate one?!...
