  1. Damn, what a blast from the past. That's the exact same furniture that I used on my 5.56 Woody. That same pic is what prompted that build, and that same pic is what I used on the cover of my Appleseed Instructor Manual. At the time, I pulled that furniture from Precision Firearms, and when I called, I talked to Mark Hostetter himself. That is a really, REALLY good article, brother - thank you for finding that. Now I need to dig the Woody out and get a pic of that beautiful bitch in here...

It helps if you review their product - really use it, beat it, find out it's badass - then tell the world. So far, I'm the ONLY guy to leave a review on their 16" Grendel SPR barrel. Oh, and when you're at SHOT, and Clint has kegs there in the booth at 3pm on Thursday - you show up and try to drink him out of beer, and shoot the shiit whilst doing it... Click this, and check the only review so far for that barrel. https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/16-inch-65-grendel-spr-mid-ss-premium-barrel.html I'll make it easier: ^^^ When I bought that particular barrel - it was a phonecall. I pulled that barrel for $165 charged to my card, WITH a pinned gas block... I didn't even know what I paid for it until I read the invoice in the box, when it arrived. They rock.

The toughest thing is getting that barrel. After that, just use a ToolCraft 6.5 Grendel BCG and either the E-Lander 6.5G 17-rd mags or the C-Products 6.5G 25-rd mags. It really is just a Grendel bolt, and Grendel mags. I haven't tested any other Grendel mags but the two that I listed, but I'll guarantee that they work - in a Grendel. We'll see how this 6 ARC likes Grendel mags.

I'll be able to give you the math on that, energy at distances, once I shoot this thing and get a real muzzle velocity number. Everything after that is just math. Gonna be Ballistic Advantage, 18" SPR-profile barrel, brother. That's the only way I can accurately pit this thing against the 18 Grendel and 18 Valk, since they both have that barrel profile, from the same manufacturer. I have my order confirmation, and I called today, just to make sure it's really an order, and not a "pre" or "back" order - it's real, and it's mine. It just hasn't shipped yet. I was told that I'd get it no later than next Thursday, the 19th. Wilson Combat is on board with the 6 ARC, from what I've found. Just nothing listed on their website yet for it. FWIW, there's no mention of it on BA's website yet, either. When they did the 16" Grendel SPR barrel, I had that thing in-hand 5 weeks before they got it on the website. I already had it built and zero'd and stretched to 500 yards, before it went public-for-sale. Figured I needed to give this 6 ARC the same amount of attention, just because @DayWalker called me out on it...
  5. That's what you think right now... if you stick around long enough, you're gonna find out that we're ruthless, and we'll help you empty your wallet. Quick.

Just for shiits and giggles, we can lump some 5.56 into this test, too. My 75gr Hornady BTHP handloads, through the Mk12 Mod 1 - with a what? Ballistic Advantage 18" Mk12 profile barrel, of course. We'll just keep track of drop at 850 yards for a center-mass hit in the IPSC steel, for the comparo. Long Range Day at the Fall Shoot is gonna be LOOONG... Bring sunscreen, and a balaclava or shemagh to cover your neck...
  7. Don't be ashamed of being "Ron the Glock-Sucker." @MikedaddyH fucked a bunch of us, all, on this... What can you do?... He converted a bunch of us into Glock-Fags, on a damn office bet...

^^^ You two... The pressure IS ON!!! I LOVE IT!!! My Ballistic Advantage 18" Mk12 SPR-profile 6mm ARC barrel will be here in a week. I pulled it for about $60 less than it's being advertised for - it helps to know people... I'll have a second one coming in a week after that. I'm just sayin'... No better barrel to test against the 18" SPR Grendel, with the Ballistic Advantage Mk12 profile barrel, and the 18" SPR .224 Valkyrie, with the Ballistic Advantage Mk12 SPR profile barrel. Pit these 3 against the 18.5" Mk11 .308, with the old-skool Kreiger-Criterion Fulton Armory Match barrel, running my Hornady 178 ELD-X handloads that were brewed up JUST for that gun... This is heaven, men. We get to see what all the hype is about, real, in person, right behind these guns - at 850 yards and more.

WE DIDN'T EVEN MENTION YOU, BROTHER!!!
  10. What's your barrel twist, brother? Those 55s are running north of 3100fps, some 3300fps - through a typical AR15, 20"er. That's their design. Those M855s are designed to run 3100fps through the M16A2. You're rocking 2400fps with the M855 and a 7.5" barrel. I ran the math on the projectile a LONG time ago. The 5.56 projectile is designed to frag when it goes into something, that's the only reason it's effective. With a 62gr M855, you need 1700fps ON TARGET for that thing to frag. Same on the 55s. That give you about 175 yards of realistic distance with a short AR. Otherwise, it's not fragging and just leaving holes, like an expensive ice pick. So, reason I asked about your twist rate - those 55gr loads aren't in a barrel long enough to "settle down" - and if it's a 1:7" twist, those tiny little fast bastards are coming out of the end of that barrel, and just going haywire. Surprised those 40s did well - they have to be screaming.
  11. The store is legit - but you'll need to call them and see if they still have it.
  12. This will help your search - use the DD part number. For Armalite, you want the DD-3003-A. For DPMS-based parts, you'll want the DD-3003-D. You'll need to keep that in mind, during your build, because the barrel nut thread pattern for Armalite is 1 7/16", 18 TPI. The DPMS-based patterns all use 1 7/16", 16 TPI.

You know I'm in. You need a barrel?...
  14. Beware of the cheap airsoft fakes that are out there. Make sure that if you find one, you verify that it's legit. Check it out close, look at every pic posted in the sale listing. Bottom line - if the price looks WAY too good to be true, then it's probably airsoft parts.

You can't deny the Complete Sexiness of a Mk12, I'm with you.
  16. If you need or want more magnification, over 14x, then this is the one - Athlon Argos BTR 6~24x50,illum mil-dot reticle: https://athlonoptics.com/product/argos-btr-gen2-6-24x50-apmr-ffp-ir-mil-copy/ here's the reticle:
  17. The benefit of the Athlon over that PA I recommended - on the Athlon, the WHOLE GRID is iluminated. On that PA, only the center dot is illuminated. That can make a big difference, if you shoot in any low-light/no-light conditions. That's where the Athlon kicks ass, with the entire grid illuminated. If you never shoot at night - both are great. That PA BDC scope is fast as hell on targets at different ranges. 500~600 yards with either one of these scopes is a no-brainer.
  18. I'm with you on the MOA BS. @Matt.Cross is gonna get on me about that, but I'm all in for mils. However... BDC is the fastest. You're shooting .308 Win. Right away, I'd recommend the PA 4-14 BDC scope: https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-4-14x44mm-riflescope-acss-hud-dmr-308-223-reticle here's the reticle: Now, for mils, I wouldn't recommend the PA mil-dot scope. For SURE, I'd recommend you the Athlon Talos BTR 4-14 scope with the APLR2 reticle. I have a PILE of these things. They're great scopes, for the money, and don't break the bank. https://athlonoptics.com/product/rifle-scopes-talos-btr-4-14x44-aplr-ffp-ir-mil/ here's the reticle:
  19. How far you gonna shoot? I have a pile of Athlons, and Primary Arms scopes. You into mil-reticles, MOA, or BDC? Need those details, and I can give you a recommendation on what i would do, if it were mine.
  20. Won't affect that bipod in the least. That bipod won't care. You're not going to burn or scorch it, unless you leave it in a dumpster fire.
  21. I remember those days, when I had to play that game, too... Well played...

^^^ I have to point this out, just because I saw it in that article. They're making the major comparison in that article between the 6mm ARC 108gr projectile, and the .308 WIN 178 ELD-X projectile. They're claiming 2600 fps on the 178 ELD-X through a 24" barrel: They're not doing something right, with that projectile and load. I'm pulling a true, chrono'd 2530 fps on my load, through a 18.5" barrel... Something isn't right with their numbers, if they're only getting another 70fps over my load, and they've got a 24" barrel, vs. my 18.5" barrel. So, not only does this thing have to do distance-battle with the 18" Grendel SPR, the 18" Valk SPR, now it has to fight with the Mk11, too.
  23. @DayWalker, this is for you, brother. Building a 6mm ARC, and I don't have a single part yet. I'm making a phonecall in the morning, and I'll bet I get a barrel. It WILL be a barrel with the SPR profile (Mk12 profile). 18", rifle gas, and straight badass. News on that endeavor tomorrow night. Next up. LaRue. I'll build this thing in a LaRue rifle. I'll have to BUY a LaRue rifle, and swap some stuff out, but that's the way it's gonna go down. Smartest thing for me to do is buy a LaRue Grendel Ultimate Upper kit, and just part with the barrel. Next time we're in need here, that LaRue Grendel barrel will go up for auction, for the need at the time. Brace yourselves, men, this is happening. I found this interesting, because I just changed over ALL my .308 Win precision loads to the Hornady 178 ELD-X projectile. The 178 ELD-X is no joke, and I've got that load DIALED IN... Oh, some unit in the military already adopted the 6 ARC - before the cartridge was even announced. We'll see, for real, how this thing shakes out compared to Valk and Grendel. https://www.gunsandammo.com/editorial/hornady-6mm-arc/376852
  24. WTF?! NOW, HOW DOES THAT MOTHERFUCKER KNOW HOW TO USE A STRAW?!!?
