New guy here too! I just got my Aero in and have a question. The ejection port cover will not close without a lot of force, and I'm a big man. It looks as if the upper receiver does not have a groove milled in it like my 15's do. Is it supposed to? I wanted to know before I broke out the dremel.

Mine was super tough to get to snap closed too but it seemed to work in pretty quick.     For a while I did not think it was going to close at all, but now it seems to snap closed pretty easy.       I would just give it a bit before you break out the dremel

This... (coming from another Aero owner)

I did not even try another bolt catch as I got the Aero with my other bits.    The AR-10 mag release is only maybe 3/16 longer than the AR15 but it does make the difference.   I did both the AR10 unit and a Seekins button, but I think just using a Seekins button with a standard AR15 one would work.    You only need just a bit more,    I had it together with just AR parts and it worked fine there was just not much of the mag release button showing.

Can you post a pic of the AR10 mag catch with the Seekins button?  I picked up a Armalite AR10 Magazine Catch & now all i gotta do is order a Seekins button. <thumbsup>

Its not loose,  Its not super tight either.   It fits up well enough that there is no real rattle or movement but the takedown pin is not tight.      I did not buy a "matched" set of receivers.     I just got another lower and am going to start the next one.   Only shot this one once and already building another :-)

Yea my take down pin is not tight at all either, according to AERO they told me there are no matched sets cause they are forged. KNS Precision is making their take down/pivot pins now maybe we have the older pins. I was told to contact customer service to see if they need to be swapped out.

Well I'm starting my Aero M5 build.  I bought the receiver set back in the fall but pushed it to the side since I had other projects in queue.  I ended up buying the M5 Specific pins and some other components that were fairly priced to get it to $99 for the free shipping.  Rest of the stuff i'll source off Brownells/Midway since their pricing for parts is generally cheaper...

So looking at your previous posts, it looks like when I purchase a DPMS LPK, it comes with an AR15 mag catch which will cause the mag release button to be too shallow?  Sounds like I need to buy an AR10 specific mag catch with the DMPS LPK?

Or the other option would have been to of bought the LPK offered by Aero?  I'm guessing that LPK has specific parts in it that is compatible with the M5 where as the DPMS LPK isnt.  That would explain the major price difference in the two LPKs when searching online.

my bad I re-read it and it looks like you might have used an AR15 mag catch from spare parts?  If I order a specific 308 LPK I should be fine i'm assuming since the kit should come with a mag catch designed for the 308 platform.

You are correct I first tried a AR15 mag catch,  however I think you will run into the same issue with some .308 LPK's.    I would think if you buy Aero's you would be good to go but several of the others just use the AR15 mag catch as well.

I bought AR10 mag catch's and Seekins buttons for both these.

I am Idaho born and raised myself.

The second rifle even though it has a 18" barrel is considerably lighter than the first. I would guess it's 9.5 lbs or there abouts.

I have an extra BCG and am going to start gathering bits. Most likely what I will do is compete another upper first and then at some point build a lower for it. I would like a heavy 24" upper and a light SBR upper but more than likely both will have to wait a while.
