The .338LM is an excellent rifle. It shoots nicer than some of the .308's I've shot. After watching the consumer climate, we started talking about working on a .300WM as well. To be honest, I don't see a significant enough price gap in ammo to warrant the .300WM. I'd rather the .338LM and get a LOT more bullet for just a few cents more per shot.

I think what happened is the mil-spec thing.    All the major AR15’s are made to Mil-Spec.   Internal dimensions and internal parts are interchangeable between manufactures.   Everyone wants what the Military is using.   Some companies have changed the looks of the upper and lower some to catch your eye to sell their wares.   Insides still the same mil-spec.   Sense there is no mil-spec for AR10’s and Armalite bought the name and patented there lower DPMS and the others just up sized the AR15 to the size of the AR10.   So now we have the Armalite version and the DPMS version.   No one makes a true AR10, they are all clones.    Armalite doesn’t even make a true AR10.

So when Colt got the government contract replacement parts became a low bidder thing (sort'a, kind'a public domain, but that's not the right terminology). Your analysis is exactly correct, and mine was not.

...Does that make it a LR3087mm-08? lol So what does the collective say?

Power to the confusers of the sheeple. To continue their confused conundrums, I'd call it an LR7/08 and know what parts I needed for it. It'd be a shooter!

The rest of the comments & pics in this thread are awesome too.
