unforgiven
Found this going through my favorites, I know a lot of guys here come to the table with AR 15 knowledge. For those that don't : http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?79448-Operator-Level-Inspections-For-The-M16-FOW
survivalshop
Good description of an inspection , I do have one issue with the old wife's tail , those are gas rings sealing a Piston type of assembly , show me one Piston assembly where they tell you that staggering the gas rings doesn't matter . Its common sense to stager them , will it work with out staggering , probably , is it as efficient in trapping gas impulse as it would be with them staggered , testing from many Piston ,Piston Ring manufacturers say , NO ! planeflyer21
Great find brother! Getting added to the favorites now. SS, I agree. I've seen many types of piston assemblies where misaligned aligned ring slots/gaps led to gas leakage and failures. Actually just watched a vid where a dude got a screaming deal on a Harley that wasn't running. The rear cylinder was fried because all the ring gaps were in a row. I was surprised to read that about the gas rings. I'm not sure I actually read the requirement to stagger the rings anywhere but do remember Platoon Sargents breaking down the weapon and checking for that. If they were not staggered then you were in for some "remedial training".

unforgiven
I have read other sources say that staggering the gas rings wasn't necessary but I still do it. It only makes sense to do it.
