aj351w
I am new to this forum so forgive me if this question has been answered (yes I've done a lot of internet searching also). I'm building/buying my first 308 AR and I'm having a hard time finding a decent one I can afford. I will be using it for deer hunting so I want it light and short, that's the easy part. Problem is I'm left handed and when I built my last AR15 I started with an ambidextrous lower, so much nicer for me and I would like the same but in 308. If price wasn't an issue I've found a couple nice ones from companies like Daniel Defense, unfortunately $2k-$3k isn't in the budget. S&W M&P 10 is ambi but pretty run of the mill with a crappy trigger, forend, grip, etc... The best deal I've found was a Savage MSR 10 Hunter at $888 through Experticity (I'm active duty military and get a good discount). I'd buy the MSR 10 right now if it were ambi but it's not. Is there something I'm missing out there that's decently priced, light, ambi and I wouldn't have to replace most of the parts on the gun right after I purchase it? planeflyer21
It is important to remember that each 308AR is a proprietary platform, although the DPMS and Armalite are the most imitated. That being said, I'm a Rock River Arms LAR-8 geek. Ambi bolt-stop and mag release. Haven't tried to fit an ambi safety selector but I believe it has been done. Don't cheap out on a .308 platform! Robocop1051
Build it. Buy a basic model and make it ambi. • Norgon or Troy ambi mag release will do most of what you want. • Get an oversized ambi charging handle. • Ambi selector switch will finish you off for the most part. Not 100% sure, but I'm willing to bet that a lefty .308 upper isn't out yet.
survivalshop
With all the new gadgets for the AR platform, you can probably make any AR ambidextrous , as said above , purchase one you can afford & swap the components out you want for your shooting style . Building a specialized Rifle will cost a bit more .
EngrBob
While I am right handed I shoot left because of mixed dominance. I don't see any reason for ambidextrous anything with the AR platform or that when talking about a side charging upper.

I'll agree with that. Being a left-handed rifleman, it never was a big deal to shoot anything from a Garand, to an M14 to any AR. The spent cases ejecting in front of me I ignore, use your index finger to work the safety. Not a big deal. Heft a platform and see what it feels like. I picked up a Daniels Defense 308AR a while back, and it was the cat's meow. Try one of those. If you need to fuss with it after a few 1000 rounds, just change the safety to an aftermarket ambi. unforgiven
Rock River Has great ambi- features bolt release in the center next to magazine, full button magazine release on both sides, and it was easy to put on a ambi- safety which I did. Impact guns has good prices on Lar-8's. Now RRA has 6.5 Creedmoor upper for the Lar-8's.
