.308 AR Modification question

I'm thinking that removing the gas block and tube and putting on a separate gas block upside down might be the best option.  Having never taken one off, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get the original system back on correctly but watching a few videos it does seem fairly simple.  Anyway, just thinking at this point.

When you mount it upside down, do not put the rear screw in the gas block.  Just use the front screw (if it's a two screw setup).   The rear screw hole is ALWAYS drilled directly opposite the gas port, and if you put that screw in, you'll undoubtedly damage the gas port in the barrel.  You WILL have gas escaping.  You could loc-tite a set screw in place, without cranking it down the barrel's gas port, but that gas is hot, that loc-tite will break down, and that set screw will eventually fly outta there like a rocket one of the times you fire.

Use a clamp-on gas block, and you won't be tempted.  You will still have gas escaping.

Just thought about this - if you use a clamp-on, and mount it 90*, instead of directly upside down, you'll be able to seal the barrel's gas port that way.

DING DING DING winner...I know I am not being realistic but I would be on the phone ,internet, to the papers where ever I could go to point out the idiocy of this law, there have been semi autos in the world of hunting for a hundred years, most states that do have a concern about the amount of ammo used simply require a 5 round mag period! if after exhausting the above and not getting any positive action taken on their part I would tell them and the state to go Fuk themselves and I would move to stay and put up with idiots who think like that is just helping their cause.... all MY OPINION..... so grain of salt etc.
