Scope options

Just like the title says.  Looking for scope options for my 308. Father in law gave me a Firefield scope and I have a feeling it won't last very long. Willing to spend some money but not crazy money. Getting ready to build a house so this would be something I stuck a little money away every couple weeks till I had enough.

 Longest range we have local is 250 yards unfortunately. I want to buy something that will equal the way the gun is built.

Shorten this up for us a bit, rifle build/options on rifle, and then suggestions will come in for scope options to mstch rifle. Also, a target dollar amount would help, as the sky is pretty close to the limit for good glass.

I tried Vortex for the first time about 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier.  Haven't touched the zero since and it even got knocked over by an unattended dog on to concrete.  Took it out the next day and  still bang on.  Diamondback 4-16.  Got it on a smoking deal with Amazon for 289 shipped

I ended up grabbing a Vortex Crossfire II 6-24X50

Good for distance. 6x might be a bit much for short, but that's what BUIS are for.
