Anyone have experience with this caliber? Thoughts on long term availability? DPMS is now offering uppers and rifles in this chambering.

I'm running an Aero Precision lower on my 14.5" gun.  It's tied for 1st place as the nicest lower I've got, right there with a Spike's made by Mega Machine.  It's a great lower.

You want a 500 yard or 1000 yard AR?

If you want a 500 yard, go with the 6.8 SPC. I have two and by god that has got to be my favorite caliber. Of course I haven't finished my 6.5x47 Lapua AR-10 build yet either but the 6.8 is a great hard hitter.

If you want a 1000 yard plus try the 6.5 Grendel, or 264 LBC. Still super sonic past a grand with a 123 grain bullet. Something like 67% less drop at 1000 yards than a 308.

Im 99.9 percent it will be the 6.8 SPC. is one more inherently accurate than the other at 200 yards and under?

If the 6.8 is your choice, make sure it has a spec II chamber with a minimum twist of 1-10. the original chamber design had pressure problems. My 6.8 has a specII with a 1-11 twist made by the now defunct Ko-tonics. to bad they shut down because it shoots awesome. <thumbsup>

I'm with BHW, 6.8 is bad ass! I have two complete rifles and two more uppers in it and a Dillion 550B dedicated to loading it. We have killed a load of hogs and coyotes on my Dad's property with those guns. 110 HDY AMAX or Barnes 110 TSX is a death dealer. I like to think of it as the .40 S&W of the carbine world. It's not a .308 but if you want something light, portable and deadly it will do the job. I have shot past 500 with it but it starts to lose a bit of steam out there. Inside of 500, if you can see you can smoke it.

i think Midway has complete Bushmaster uppers in 6.8 on sale right now for $569. I was looking at one myself.
