Hello introducing myself.

I am 5.56 shooter - 3 AR's currently with 2 of those self-built, some pistol shooting and I reload. I don’t get to shoot as much as i like but it does not seem to stop me from buying more toys.

I am now shooting at a range that has a 600 yard section. I ran across this forum while learning about black rifles in a .308. So far I have I have enjoyed the reading and the practicality on the posters in regards to weighing money and product and not always pushing the current in thing.

I am going to jump right in with a self-build I believe (Unless someone suggests an already built selection) so I am learning a lot here on the subject especially compatibility and parts.

I am not a precision shooter, ex-Army (long time and 50lbs ago) and while I respect people that can generate tight groups out at long ranges I am more of a hit the gong type person. So will be looking to build a center mass rifle, tough, doesn’t need to be pretty, reliable, and can reach out and touch someone when needed.

I am going to start with the rifle Irons and then get into buying and adding the scope. I am already reading on scopes some here in this forum.

I’m a mid-grade guy I don’t need or want top of the line but like I posted above, good, reliable, and longevity. Really looking forward to this project as well as getting setup for reloading on it, which is the other half of my fun!

Welcome to the site and best of luck in your goal. Building a .308 AR isn't very different from an AR15. Buying the parts is, though. With AR10/.308 AR's, you really have to sort the wheat from the chaff since there's no set standard to refer to for quality like there is for the M16 family of weapons (FOW). Again, welcome to the site.
