I do a lot of night hunting around the farm.  The other night I was out with my thermal monocular and saw a weird ball in the tree in my yard.  It was a huge swarm of bees.   It looked like a lantern hanging in the tree with the thermal.   Picture the next morning.
It’s about the size of a gallon jug.

Smart move. With all the loss of them due to pesticides, etc. they are important.

We'd considered starting a couple of hives.  There are great resources to help newbie beekeepers in both Kansas & Missouri, but our city is so extremely regulated...about most everything...that our place could not meed the setback requirements for even a single hive.  This is a city where they can give you a citation for leaving your trash cans at the street too long, as well as a vehicle ticket for leaving a car on the street overnight.  Not often enforced, but still on the books.

Maybe that bee keeper that rescued the wild hive will bring back some honey for you!!

Where I'm at they have a program for local home owners where they set you up with hive(s) and the bee keeping gear. In return you give them back 1/2 the honey you collect which is sold to contribute towards the program.
