Colcalcipherol Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I have heard that some ammo give problems, some shoots well, and some doesn't in the Bushmaster ORC .308. For those of you who own such a weapon, can you recomend what ammo works pretty well and shoots fairly straight yet can be bought in bulk? What should I avoid? Thanks . . .
unforgiven Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Welcome from Indiana brother Colcalcipherol, not sure about Bushmaster but some of the guys here have one and they would know.
edgecrusher Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Welcome to the forum, I think that you will find any mil surp ammo is a crap shoot for your rifle, to buy in small quantities at first to see if it will work. American ammo companies would be best, and you'll never have an issue with match grade ammo but some will shoot better than others. Experiment, then buy in bulk. The stuff that will kill you is buying South African or old Argentine stuff, it may work, may not, may be corrosive, may not... <dontknow>
unforgiven Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Cabelas has .308 GMM for $19.99 a box.
flatwins Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I picked up some Monarch brass (Academy house brand) for my initial trip to the range this weekend. It's $14.99/20 but they have steel case stuff for $9.99/20 as well.
Lethal Threat Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 I reload for mine, so I would only be able to shop on reloads. But I did put an adjustable gas tube on mine to slow it down some.
Colcalcipherol Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 Gentlemen, thanks for the feedback. I agree that trial and error is ideal; however, I am currently in Afghanistan so I don't currently have that option. With the current status of our country and government, I want to stock up before I return home. So, although it's a shot in the dark, I'll try to learn what I can here. Maybe my neighbor will get the thrill of testing out ammo for me.What about Federal American Eagle, Federal Premium, or Magtech. I know Federal Premium is usually good but I want to get the price down to about $0.75/round.
edgecrusher Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Thanks for your service, be safe Federal ammunition is my no.1 ammo choice, gmm being my go to. Both my rifles prefer 168 gr. I think trial and error is definitely best, because even if someone here has the same rifle, chances are they won't shoot exactly the same.

Colcalcipherol Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 Thanks, Unforgiven. I know it may seem trite repeating these statements, but it means a lot to hear from folks. It's a good reminder of the cause . . .
