Noob question - lower bolt catch issues

Recommended Posts

@Survialshop

It feels like it is moving correct, where as the CMMG was not.

What did you do to modify the bolt catch to rise higher?

Also, something wierd is when I do lock the bolt to the rear and remove the magazine it sends the bolt into battery.

@Masgtions99 I will order one this morning!

Tha part number I listed is taller than the DPMS type to begin with. Armalite had corrected thier bolt catch because of reports that they were getting of the catch not holding the bolt or missing it altogether. The bottom was modifed to catch it earlier and that is where it needs to be modified and that is another place that provides a higher lift to catch the bolt, Ill post a pic when I can. Some of the DPMS type also have an beveled edge on the top of the rear of the bolt catch like the picture you posted, some are flat, only use the flat ones as that edge is what will hit the bolt and I have seen the bolt wear and round the corners because of it. Then you start having other problems associated with the bolt rounded where it picks up the ammo from the magazine.

Hey Guys, just to update. I installed the JP 308 buffer spring and the dpms 308 buffer and everything is functioning properly. I ordered the armalite bolt catch but I did not install, the DPMS is working perfectly. I checked the headspace and took it out to the my buddies personal range and it performed flawlessly. Thank you everyone for all your help!!

Thank you guys! @unforgiven it is a Vortex Viper 1-4x (mrad) on a American defense/Vortex mount. It will stay on my AR15.... I was just using it for photographic purposes. It is a great scope and I love it. The only thing is that it is a SFP and the mils are a little hard to read.... Also a 1-6x would be nice.

Just a note, I have solved many a 308 bolt catch problems with using the AR 10 type of bolt catch. The newer style is part number, Armilite 10203100 you will have to notch the bottom in order for it to sit flat to the lower receiver and not stick up but it will raise up higher than the DPMS style and provide more bolt catch surface and so far has solved magazine problems of not hitting the catch and the catch just barely grabbing the bolts! Yes, NO AR 15 bolt catchs for the

Here is pictures of the catch mod for the DPMS to use the new Armalite 10203100 part and the differences between them. Hope it helps someone.

Stating top left, Arm10203100, top middle DPMS on left Arm on right, top right Armalite on bottom DPMS on top for height difference.

Bottom left, mod to clear lower receiver(you can modify the lower I just choose to mod a small part instead of the lower, bottom right re-blued and ready to go.
