Love Cerakote. I use the bake version. Did a 1911 for a freind and he has it for a carry and shows NO wear. Spray gun: I have all Iwata guns and air brushes. Use them from small camo to Harleys or a Rolls Royce. I don't like the equipment malfuctions after so much prep work. If you someone local that custom paints they would be a good person to ask about equipment.

I went from the standard buffer and spring to the JP silent capture system and like it. I have had no problems with it and it is quite. Plan on using it in the next 308 project. As one would figure I am waiting on parts and Krieger barrels. I have a Kreiger barrel on my 308 bolt action rifle with the Obermeyer chamber and going the same for the AR platform, so I knew I would be waiting on the barrels so ordered 2.

Crazybull, Welcome. I started by jioning the forums and reading everything I could find. All topics and Youtube was a great help with others doing triger replacements and barrels and all types of assembly. I was already into F Class high power but the AR platform was a whole new ball game because my rifles were all bolt actions. And there is only so much I can actually build there, most takes a gunsmith and large expensive machines. If you watch your parts purchase there is very little you will have to do but assemble correctly. Rsquared makes a very good point on tools, just get the main tools you need.

They JUST had on the local news the govern of IOWA just bagged his biggest buck ever. I have not heard much hear on the gun control issues. Been keeping an eye in the news but nothing. Just going to keep my fingers crossed this session is stuck on the big education issues since they have a extra 850 million to grab for.

Washington needs to work on a budget, not reactionary laws that will have no effect on gun violence. Their answer is to raise the debt ceiling. Sure, if you cain't afford it just borrow more money.

I stop by my LGS about every Friday, bring some dounuts and have some conversation with other retired military from all branchs. They have a large table at one end and while sitting there one of the employees say, "If your going to sit there I might as well put you to work." I spent the next 3 hours helping him log in firearms including ARs. Guns in and guns out, a few ARs a couple AKs and at least 10 hand guns, and with ARs still on the racks. The prices are up but not as much as I have been hearing about. Mags, I know there is a good stock on hand, but the price is up on those. I think if the dust settles and the laws are beaten down things will smooth out. But we will all have to see how the battle goes. <munch>

Welcome to 308AR. I am not even close to Texas as the name states. I do some reloading for competition and long range, but no expert. I reload 308 and 5.56 mainly, more 308 rhan the 5.56. A good site for long range competition shooters is 6MMBR/Accurate shooter. <thumbsup>

+1 for the Geiselle triggers, I have three of them. +1 for Rainier Ultarmatch barrels, I also have a Noveske 18", both are great IMO. Battle arms for the ambi safety, i have them in all my rifles. I also have the MATEN MKM on order and keeping my fingers crossed. I like a flash hidder (Smith Enterprises Vortex) vs a muzzle break but we all have our likes. Good hunting on your parts gathering.

Sounds like a good idea. From the posts I have been reading here there are a few we could start with.

I have been into the hot rods since I was very young. Worked a drag race crew before I could drive. I did take a year of work in the late 80's and qualified for an NHRA licence (228 mph) but never was able to get the ride. Still building/chopping/painting hot rods/customs/Harleys, current project is a 50 Belair for a buddy of mine (dropped the top 3 1/2" already) and my 53 Belair sits in the garage. Need to finish the 64 Rolls we are painting for an investment broker this winter. Between parts for the 53 and ARs I am glad the girlfiend is OK with all this.

That's a very good point concerning the barrle nut, I hadn't thought about it yet. That brings another question to mind: would I neeed to use a DPMS/standard buffer tube?

All my compatible questons are for a Mega Arms MATEN Billet upper/lower receiver set. Starting another build and just need clarification as to the parts listed are compatible. Armalite AR10 BCG, pretty sure it is from reading the posts I could find. Will order an AR10 barrel from Kreiger. Why not just coat the areas between the raised ribs for a grip surface? Yes it is not painting the whole mag but I agree you could get into clearence problems with painting the top that fits into the actual magwell. I know soom guys are using a iron to dimple the same areas for more grip.
