I'm picking up a new tank for my torch , the one I have has MAP gas & a little too hot , I also need to order the Hornady starter kit , because it has the temperature indicator in it & different case holders. I have some five time ,maybe six 308 brass ready to try out , thing is , they are already sized & de-primed . I think I will resize them after trimming & annealing with my FL ,bushing die & see how the do . I noticed loading this batch of 175's that when seating the bullets , some did feel like they didn't have the same neck tension when seating the bullets . We will see if that goes away next reload on this test brass. Its been Monsoon week so far , not sure when I can get to the range , if at all this week .

Wonder how much goes over sea's ( he said they ship over sea's , oh ya , a new conspiracy ) & the military used to use a lot of 22 LR for training , but that was a long time ago , no idea if they still do . I can't help it I'm old <thumbsup>

LR 308 front sight and height
survivalshop replied to gnatshooter's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
DPMS makes or made a high railed upper receiver , similar to the # 4 photo in N Jensens post above . He has a high railed receiver , that is probably the 1/2" measurement , which is probably what you have . Now is your front sight set up for it , like N.Jensens or is it set up for one of the shorter rail heights , is the question. If you want as low as you can get , then the A3 upper is what you want, can't get any lower , to my knowledge . The link you have to the DPMS upper seems to be an AR 15 & not a AR 308 though they will have the same upper rail height. -
I have a newer Mossberg 308 Bolt gun & its well made & I'm not much of a bolt gun kinda guy. I see they have a bunch of .22LR AR's available .

Ya, I remember that ,but looks like they are expanding or pushing harder . This is probably why they took over a lot of Banks with bail outs . When they did that , we lost a lot of small banks around here & were replaced ( bought out /pushed out ) with the bailed out big name ones .

Now for all of you who didn't think this Admin. wasn't making a concentrated effort to eliminate your Second Amendment rights , this should be another clue ( if true ) to the behind the scenes activity . http://www.infowars.com/holders-latest-scandal-doj-now-pressuring-banks-to-refuse-service-to-gun-stores/ And you thought the Admin. wouldn't purchase vast amounts of ammo to keep it out of your hands. <dontknow>

Thats some strange $hit there . -
Yes, any of the ballistic tipped bullets work fine for hunting, Barnes , Hornady, Nosler & most other ammo manufacturers ,all have bullets with the plastic ballistic tips on them for hunting . If you load your own , there are many different bullet weights available .

Ejection port cover can be left out if you want , but as you said , might want to put the Forward assist in there ( inexpensive anyway, or if your present set up has one , swap it over ) ,just to make sure nothing blows back at you. No need to change BCG . Just swap out the parts & you will be good to go , except for re-sighting her in , that is . -
If I see a slightly split case , the whole batch goes in the recycle box & I start with new once fired LC brass , I have been reading a lot on case neck tension & accuracy out come & also extending brass life is more of a concern now a days for me also. Testing these two different length barreled 308AR's is got me going places I ignored in all my years of reloading. <dontknow>

I would not underestimate some of these people & it doesn't take the whole government & all its Minions . Just look at O'Butthead care & some think tank ( Weather Underground ) came up with the largest taxation bill in American history & camouflaged it as Healthcare, which it really doesn't do. -

Of course there are many factors involved in the shortages, hoarding , new firearm buyers by the thousands ( or more ) , but this administration , I believe is doing all it can do to help it along & deprive us of ammo & in my case , components . I do believe the ammo companies are not telling the whole truth about there manufacturing practices & contract obligations , why would they . They could lose any or all future Gov. contracts if they did . Its the way this admin. works , speak out & lose out .The ammunition manufacturers are in it to make money , just like any other business , where they get it , is of no consequence to them, for the most part. Most companies do all they can to get gov. contracts , because of how lucrative they are . Sure they have to appease they other customers ( us ) ,but we may be on the back burner because of a Gov. contracts keeping them busy filling contracts on time . I have been in this business for almost forty years & I have never seen anything like this & I now believe it will get worse . The only reason this admin. has not made more purchases is because they know they only have a limited time span in office & going for a ten year allotment would really raise some eyebrows & might jeopardize the contracts completely , because of more scrutiny it may incite from congress. Yes it sounds like it could be a conspiracy , but just look at the ways & means of this Admin. & its just gets more plausible to think that way about it . -

Ya & I really don't need written proof , There is nothing in what this administration that has shown me , that they are trying to save us money . They blow it more than any other admin. in the past, by three fold , so any song & dance they puke out about them trying to save money ,is pure BS . Its like we have people voted into office, that are like Gangsters. Take what ever they want & if you don't follow along with them , they get you any way they can & some times ,not with in the laws of this land. -
LR 308 front sight and height

I didn't see those photo's before with that post or they didn't load when I read it . Have you contacted the sight manufacturer of your problem or what you want to accomplish ? As said, you may need to find out your upper receivers rail height. -
I looked at the Grizzly annealing machine , but damn near had the big one with sticker shock , but its the best one I have looked at. There's another video I watched where a guy made a rotary case fixture with a variable speed drill & the Hornady annealing kit that has the fixtures & temperature indicating product, he has the drill set up on a hing to flip the case into a bucket of water to cool them off. He had a thumb screw or something to control the speed of the drill. He used the temp. indicator to time the annealing time for a couple of cases , to get an average & used that time to do the rest. I have two projects going on right now & nothing having to do with firearms or reloading , but when done, I will make a system up to do this . I will anneal 300BLK , but mostly its for any rifle brass that has had a couple of reloadings . Right now my test brass for 175 gr. 308's is one its fourth reloading , so next time I will want to do something before reloading again or switch out to new , once fired brass. As far as the 300 BLK , the once fired Military brass has been annealed already & shouldn't need it to form them , but how far down the case past the shoulder may be an issue & annealing them may be needed any way .

I think every one is missing the whole point of all these ammo purchases. Its not the fact that the personnel need the amount per year , its how this administration is buying it. I have to do some research , but I don't remember these agencies buying in quantity for five year allotments before . I know the military does ,but not LE. I may be wrong about that , but just never heard of them buying so much ammo at a time . I know this administration says it to get a good deal on quantity & it is fact that you get quantity pricing , to a point ,that is .I think there reasoning & there purpose is to stifle ammo sales to the general public in any way they can & if you think its just shotgun ammo & doesn't effect the other calibers , you would be wrong. -
LR 308 front sight and height
survivalshop replied to gnatshooter's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Your not the first to have a iron sight problem with a DPMS 308 AR . Might be some of the reasoning for rail height changes. What rear sight do you have on the rifle . -
I have talked my self into Annealing my rifle brass ( satisfied 98 <thumbsup> ) If your doing it , what are you using ?
