Got both of mine today & a refund of $ 13.73. I must say I was expecting a little bit better job on the pin area , but the one I used is working & seems better going in . I used some Graphite grease on the screw threads. I noticed there seemed to be a high & low spot I think on the threads in the lower receiver ,because the DPMS one had the same feeling of tighten & then normal screw advance. I will be going to the range Monday morning , do some target work .

I'm not sure if I can say this but , go to War Rifles sight ,Fulton has there own section over there & they have answered questions most of the time . Besides if you make your inquiry the right way , FA may take care of you ,being its on an open Forum .

Go to digital scale & you will never look back. At first I would check my charge on the beam scale ,but don't even bother any more . I only use a powder trickler (RCBS )on my precision loads (hunting ,target ) blasting ammo just goes through the Redding , with an occasional weight check .

I saw that mag. & didn't pick it up . Not sure how well they would work with the 308. Is there a link on that article ?
-
I still have not received mine . They said they would be in the mail this past Monday . Its what's keeping me from doing a range report on my rifle with the 16" bbl.. It may come today ,ya never know . They wanted $ 14+ some change to ship it & I emailed them to see if they could just stuff them small items in an envelope , they said they would .

Gas tubes & pins are the same as AR 15/16 family. ( rifle ,Mid, Carbine ) You can get them just about any where you get AR parts from .

Fulton Armory said they didn't know who manufactured there hand guards ? I would call & talk to some one else. I have had nothing but ,good experiences with FA.. If there out look is that they don't or won't have a part for one of there products specially made for them , I would get another HG system . And I'll give another vote for the JP's Vtac. You will have to get a special Pin Spanner to take that bbl. nut off your rifle any way & if ya need to do that I will send you mine to use . More than likely it also has loc tight on it & will need some heat to let it loosen to come off with any wrench.

I could have hand filed one out of a block of billet by now . <munch>

Some one posted in another Forum that they called them & asked that very question ,. They said there's are made to there spec's and do not follow DPMS. If ya think about it ,it they changed them , the hand guards that YHM makes for them would not work . Well it might , because YHM makes two different rails heights for there HG's , 1/4 & 3/8 " in thickness . We know the 3/8 " (like on my HG from them ) would not work with the new DPMS height receiver rail , but the 1/4 " , I'm not sure . Another thing , will a thin rail 1/4" thick have problems with mounting of some sights & equipment ? Now that, I'm not sure of .

Why shorter barrels may often be better - Article
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
Strange they didn't go below 18 " bbl.. I will get a chance this week to see how my 308 ,16" does compared to my 20 ". Just waiting for my bolt stop screw(s). I have always been one to believe a stiff short bbl. is better than a thin long bbl.. I have built a few 16" carbines & have never used any thing but a med. wt. bbl. . Since I will never put a launcher on one of these rifles ,the M4 bbl. is useless to me. I guess if you want the look of the M4 rifle ,that's fine ,just not for me . -
I have been hunting with a 44 mag & hand loading for it ,for over twenty years and one thing I can tell you is the loads for your lever gun may not work in your Revolver . I would check loading data & compare the two differant firearms. I stopped loading lead bullets for Revolvers about the same time I started loading for them . The Jacketed bullets can just deliver more energy & velocity down range . Take it from me & I have put down a lot of animals with the 44mag. ,lead works but today's jacketed bullets out perform them by leaps & bounds. I presently have a Colt Anaconda with a 4x32 scope on her & she will print a group two inch's off a rest @ 100yrds with 240 gr. Honady XTP bullets. I have loaded every thing from 200 gr. -300 gr. jacketed to 250 gr. lead & the jacketed bullets just flat out perform the lead in all the 44mags I have owned . I have used the older type of Blue Dot (I still have a couple of pounds of the org. Herculie's brand ) but I have settled on 2400 with 6" - 8" bbls.. If you have a shorter bbl. the slow burning 2400 may not be the best . I use 17 grs of 2400 with the XTP bullet & very comfortable to shoot. H110 , I have heard good things about ,but have never tried it . Now where did all the org. Red Hawks go ,I would check a gun shows. I have owned a couple of them & sold them because I could not get good accuracy from any of them . Not sure about the new ones , never had a Super .

I read that on a conversion table for Dillons today . You can check for Dillons caliber conversion here . I know it doesn't help the poster . http://thegunwiki.com/apps/calconversion/index.asp?machine_3=on&go=Choose+Machines Are they saying you have to buy the whole carrier or just the shell plate. You should be able to just get the shell plate . They want $ 100 for that ?

On the recent test fire of my AR 308 ,the Bolt Catch failed to catch the bolt after last round . This occurred with three differant manufacturer's mags. After making sure there were no burrs on any of the parts & no interference with the mechanics of the BC. This included making sure the spring would have proper travel. I stoned a few thou. off the stop for the BC. lever to let it pivot a little more . After checking how far the mag follower pushed up the BC. up ,I stoned until I got the Catch to stay engaged with or with out an empty mag in place . The measurements of what I came up with my help others ,if this problem comes up . The thickness of the end of the catch that rests against the lower receiver , that I have is 0.209" ,this measurement doesn't mean much because there could be variations from part to part . The one I got to get the Catch to catch the bolt & keep it there might help. 0.414 ,Is the height the top of the Catch is from the flat of the Receiver below it . In other words how high it sticks up to catch the bolt ,but not to high to interfear in some way. I will post some photo's in the morning . I will take some to the range next time to share here . Although mine only have Iron sights ,no scopes.

One thing to remember about the DPMS uppers ,they are extruded ,then machined. Not billet ,like there 308 lowers. I'm not really sure if it means any thing . I know they have been in a hurry for the last year to make orders up . Another thing is ,maybe some blems are going to the parts side & the nice ones are going on rifles built by them , who knows . I know one thing ,I am going to try NOT to use DPMS parts when possible.

Just ordered two bolt stop pin screws from SI Defence ,which are made from stainless steel , for $12.00 apiece with $14.67 shipping. You would think they could send it by snail mail cheaper! Just crazy. They are in the 308 upper , parts section ,why I don't know. I didn't take it out of the upper receiver. I read some of the reviews of the DPMS ones in Midway & there's two reviews that say they broke . Should I be putting this in the " 308 Build section " ?

95 % of my dies are RCBS ,never had a problem with them( 30 + years ), but all the name brands are good . Ya can't go wrong as long as you buy quality dies. I prefer SB sizing dies ,most say you don't need them & since both my .223 & .308 dies a SB ,I have never had the need to find out , because of a fail to chamber , if I really needed them . I still use the Pad with RCBS lube , never had a stuck case . I like my Redding powder measure , with its micrometer adj..

Unfortunately ,close will not be good enough for reloading .You get some thing out of line & you may not be pleased with the results . I have no info on the 6.8. I don't even know if Dillon has a shel plate for 6.8.

I thought about that paint for wood stoves . Have not tried it . You are going to have to experiment on your own or send it off to be properly treated. I just think ya need some kind of high temp paint, maybe an engine exhaust paint ? Let us know what ya find , that works out in the field . What about the stuff that Brownells sells ?

As far as the Pmags , I will give them another chance this week end when I do some target work . I found on post , test fire inspection - - bolt catch pin was broke at the threaded part . Cracked almost in half ,with a large chunk missing & backed out to the end of the threads on the receiver ( probably was loose in there ) -Castle nut on receiver extension was loose. I need to strake it . Any of these could cause malfunctions.

Two inch orange self adhesive dots on card board. I get card board at work in nice 24x24 " squares. And of course my spot. scope.

I got out to the range today to test fire my new 308 build & here are the results ; Started out with PMag with one round ,all function tests worked except ,bolt hold open (even though it worked in pre test) Tried to set it manually ,but would not hold BCG at all . Went to Pmag with two rounds in it for function test ,fed both rounds & no bolt hold open last round . Went to 19 rounds in Pmag , would only fire one round & FTF next round ,used two types of 7.62 & my 172 gr. hand loads ,same results . went to three rounds in mag & worked fine ,four rounds ,fine , five rounds, fine, six rounds ,same problem would only fire first round & FTF next. bolt over on any thing above five rounds with two diff. Pmags . These mags work flawlessly in my other DPMS build . Went to CProducts mag, with twenty rounds , functioned as fast as I could pull the trigger, no FTF's, two diff. Cproducts mags. , two diff. 7.62 ammo. Went to DPMS mags , 19 rounds , fired as fast as I could pull the trigger , no FTF on two diff. mags., two Diff. 7.62 ammo. Went back to Pmags , same results as above ,no more than five rounds. The rifle was a blast to shoot ,,a little more recoil then its bigger brother I have, but this rifle with the cheap old turkey scope weighed in at 9.4 # empty & my 20 " is 12.9 # empty. The bolt stop will get worked on to work ,not a big deal ,but for those who said this 16" bbl with rifle length gas system would not work ,well she just doesn't like Pmags right now . This was just a function test today ,no targets .
