22-250 Build on Lr-308 Platform-Looking for Cycling Issue Help
hobbesgunner replied to cdnick's topic in Building a .308AR
1/8 twist is fast for 22-250..... but it will let you shoot heavy bullets ...that and the Swift tend to be loaded with light bullets to get high velocity, which I think is a little overrated..no need to drive'em at 4000 fps....I shoot 55 gr. Nosler ballistic tips and 53 gr. V max's in my Rem 700 Swift and 22-250 varmint rifles. Found them to be more accurate than a 35-45 gr. bullet smoking out the barrel at 4K + .. like to shoot heavy bullets that I load in . 223.. with fast twist barrels... -
Gonna try something a little different ...P14 Limited to a G26..the Para pulls my pants down with hip holster ....

Picked up a used 6-24 PST couple days ago...looks like a nice piece, lot of little features, the glass is beautiful ..put it right there with Leupold Mark 4 ..anxious to get it mounted up and to the range...it came with a Vortex quick release mount(made by American Defense)..anyone have experience with these mounts?? Are they comparable to a GG&G or Larue??? Just seems like a big scope to use a QR on...

Try resizing photo...found that pictures taken with my phone are too big..(file size)...I use Photolr PS ap......Photoshop may have same features..... Like to see pictures _and hear some shooting reports on this beast ..I'm all about varmint cartridges ....be a shame to obsolete my Rem 700's -
Robocop1051's 14.5" Dissipator 300 AAC Blackout
hobbesgunner replied to Robocop1051's topic in 300 AAC Blackout
I waited a month for back ordered barrel...got antsy and ordered the ARStoner barrel ...no complaints, no regrets ...nice machine work all over.chamber included..fit tight in DanDef upper..haven't shot it a lot but it hits where I point it.....at about 60 % cost of other makers barrel.....ARStoner is Midway brand name..read they are made by Shaw.....I'd order another Stoner barrel without hesitation.. -
Glocktalk....65Grendel....M4......ARFcom...(sorry bout that ..)..not registered but peruse Longrangehunting,Snipershide and 6mmbr quite a bit...gold mine of info out there..tends to be a few snippety, snobby folks on a few of them..that's why this site is my 1st preference .don't really see that go on here.....moderators have a good handle on things

PRACTICING TRIGGER CONTROL
hobbesgunner replied to LUCKYB40's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
You can get a dry fire device that slips into the carrier....basically a piece of hard rubber the hammer hits...easy reset.nothing in chamber.doesn't strike firing pin -
Glass for my LR-308B...Suggestions?
hobbesgunner replied to Boomer .308's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I agree ....1-4,2-7 or 3-10 is much better for close to mid range hunting...that's what's on my deer rifles,shotguns..have the high power scopes on varmint rigs and paper punchers....try shooting. Punxsatawney Phil's cousin at 10 yards on 6x...easier to site down the side of barrel.....do have a 4.5-14 Buckmaster on a 7mm ultra mag and even that is a bit much for deer -
Glass for my LR-308B...Suggestions?
hobbesgunner replied to Boomer .308's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I have 3 Buckmasters .. 2 of that same scope..one BDC reticle( on AR15 varmint), other a target dot.( on. 220 Swift)..think they're an excellent mid level scope...$350 seems bit high.check around..paid less than $300 for ones I have. They were purchased at local shops...try Natchez or Optics Planet -
AAC Fires Lynsey Thompson
hobbesgunner replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
We're famous for our ability to drive business out of the state ,not encourage them to move here.....firearms or any other manufacturers ....they might move AAC ,but I doubt it would ever come to NY .....can't believe Freedom Group has left the Remington operation alone...figured they'd have been one of the first casualties in a move to reduce cost .. -
Doublestar...I have same gas block...think its a dragon

Tap drill size for 5x8/24?
hobbesgunner replied to soofley's topic in Cleaning ,Maintenance and Tools
Midway has a tap for under $19.....didn't say in what manner comp wouldn't go on...wont start on ...goes on few threads then binds...goes most way then stops....that would be telltale of problem.....I'd get a tap. Chase the threads in the comp and go from there...Check for burrs on barrel threads. Especially the lead thread..it's thin and can get rolled over...you can use small preferably fine file to take out the first 1/4 to 1/2 of the first thread..then wire brush it...may just be barrel is at max material condition and comp is at min material condition ...both are good threads but close to interference fit -
They're the same legs as Tangodown...different mounting.....I was seriously looking at the Vltor setup ,but after looking at the Vltor and a GG & G side by side, I went with GGG for same price.....Vltor looks cool and unique , just not $190 worth of cool and unique ($90-100....maybe)

Tap drill size for 5x8/24?
hobbesgunner replied to soofley's topic in Cleaning ,Maintenance and Tools
If your just chasing the threads you shouldn't need a drill....you won't find a nut and bolt to check it against at hardware store...it's a UN extra fine thread....for what it's worth to you..the minor diameter should be. 5800-.5900 for a class 2B thread...5800-.5869 class 3B..(tighter thread)...37/64 drill is. 5781,..14.75 mm drill is. 5807.........that's for your internal thread......if you mic the barrel thread it should be between .6178 and. 6250 for major diameter (The outside diameter of thread )....there's a handful of things that can be wrong with precision threads.....sometimes its something simple like hole not drilled big enough or OD too big.......good luck -
muzzle device affect on accuracy
hobbesgunner replied to hobbesgunner's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
Primary Weapons Systems emailed me a response to this question some time ago....no noticeable affect on accuracy but point of impact will probably change....I can report that they were right with regards to their brake...(purchased an FSC Custom from them) -

hobbesgunner replied to mariodesmo's topic in DPMS LR-308 | Bushmaster 308 Pictures
Sweet rifle. <thumbsup>..great looks right outta the box..can't get one in NY....WAAAAAHHHHHH.!! ...it's so unfair that even someone in Kalifornia can get one and we can't .....but I'm glad you can brother....happy shootin :)....does that receiver say Windham, Maine?? Bushy packed up and left there last yr....I think it's a better looking lower than the DPMS. -
Barrel makers stamp???
hobbesgunner replied to hobbesgunner's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
It's the barrel that came on my 6.5 from DPMS ......I was wondering who made it for DPMS .... -
Ditto on factory mags..nothing but trouble with mine....C Products mags work great if you want a metal mag...max cartridge length is 2.800 but you might have. 01-.02 wiggle room... in an AR15 I've found loads that are at the OAL limit in a metal mag won't fit in a Pmag ..don't know if its same issue with 308 Pmags ..
