    Its that time

It's gotten so the only thing deer season reminds me of is another New York winter is around the corner...lost access to so much land in last 20 yrs around here isn't hardly worth the bother of getting up early...We have lots of state land but I don't care to hunt around people I don't know..and we get tons of hunters from all over in this part of the state....bowhunted last year and that was about it...hoping to make more time for coyotes this yr
  2. Really like my Eotech ....only drawbacks compared to Aimpoint are size and battery life..Aimpoint has that market cornered....T-1 is a great little sight but doesn't co-witness well to me..seems too small.....have the riser on the Eotech that puts sights in lower 1/3 of window.gives less cluttered view of the circle - dot reticle....guess I prefer it cuz you don't have the perception of looking " through " a sight...haven't used any of the Comp Aimpoints so can't compare, comment on them...lot of them being put to good use right now though in rough conditions
  3. Afterthought.....when and if you replace components with bigger and better, pass your old equipment on to someone else to get them started...I did and now my brother has a new hobby and saves a couple bucks ....and shoots more
  4. I started out with Lee anniversary kit years ago..it was an inexpensive intro to reloading...having replaced most pieces with green and the other red press components I don't want to disparage Lee products...they sell on a lower price point and. I think you get a great deal for the $$$$....some things they make I prefer over others...have RCBS and digital scales but still use Lee scale..just as accurate and balances faster...same with their hand primer and carbide pistol. dies..prefer over the others
  5. CProducts makes one...it's the only metal mag I have that even works....2 DPMS mags got with rifle won't even cycle a round ......
  6. Lee makes a cast iron press also....Classic Cast Press...check out www.factorysales.com........I know what everyone is saying about the aluminum models..full length sizing 308 mil brass with a crimped primer can be a struggle with the smaller lee press.. :P.a Rockchucker pops em out like it was built for it.....oh wait...it was built for it..
  7. If you don't have any reloading equipment at all you'll be better off buying a press kit ...they come with everything to get you going...RCBS, Lyman, Redding all make fine single stage presses....if you don't buy quality the first go around you'll end up buying twice....Hogdens and Sierra have nice binder type manuals out...lot of info in them.....you'll be surprised at how much you can get done with a single stage press.pulling the lever isn't the most time consuming part of loading....welcome to the loaders club and good luck
  8. .They split it up between Remington facilities in Ilion NY and Madison NC. They used to give tours at Ilion. I don't know how much of the operation they let you see though.....hafta check it out next time we head up to camp for a long weekend...maybe get them to dish out the real story... ...........not likely
  9. Autozone will give you a printout of the codes and parts that would cause them....had them check my Honda few weeks ago...turned out they didn't sell the sensor I needed.. gave me the printout and recommended couple other places to check before the last resort....going back to the stealership .. :P
  10. An M261 catch would be a handy addition...use mine quite a bit shooting indoors over the winter
  11. 125 gr. Nosler ballistic tip....Lake City match brass. ......49.5 gr. Varget .....Winchester LR primer......super accurate for a light bullet. .5 - .62 groups consistently ......so fast it turns varmints inside out :o
  12. When I bought my first AR umpteen years ago I called Bushmaster about barrel break in...The very nice young lady in tech told me not to touch the bore for 300-500 rounds...no oil. no cleaning....that was for chrome lined barrel....clean the bolt, wipe off carrier if it starts to look grungy.lightly oil it and keep shooting..told her I didn't like like the idea but would do it..she assured me would it be ok. They didn't guarantee accuracy but expect to shoot under 1 moa and if I wasn't happy with performance to send it back to them and they'd make it right..shot over half a case of wolf through it without a hiccup before cleaning...it's still one of my best shooting rifles...
  13. Ordered 6.8 SPC parts kit in January after Obama inauguration thinking it would be nice B-day present for self in February ...promise date wound up being second week in March....OK I thought...understandable...box was on my porch one day when I got home from work...week before Thanksgiving ....I'd pretty much forgot about it....good thing wife didn't find it first..wouldn't have gotten it till X-mas ...
  14. Does the stock center up when folded under..??that should indicate if rear trunion is aligned close or not... Measure sides of the receiver, if they're the same its out of square, if not, it was bent wrong..either way you'll have to remove trunion rivets..check carrier rails for parallel..realign trunion by elongating holes or weld and re drill in receiver ...rivet or screw back together...might be easy as putting in a vice and giving stock end a twist .if receiver is skeehawed a bit....or....could just say " @#$% it..it's only an AK "....everything is loosy goosy on them anyhow...if it cycles shoot it.
  15. Living in a suppressor free state, are there any advantages to the 300 blackout or whisper compared to 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel .....??? I can't imagine it shoots farther or hits harder...is it quiet without a can on it??? I kinda want one ...got a spare lower in search of a upper...it would make me feel better if it was more than just a novelty in my neck of the woods ...
  16. PWS makes a crush washer that gives 1 full turn of adjustment ...they also have 3 piece shim kit for timing a brake if you have an aversion to crush washers.....used both....prefer crushwasher if it matches barrel/brake diameter
  17. I did the recommended 1 shot and clean for 25 rnds on my LR6.5 and mini SASS....you can feel the bore smooth up the more you shoot by the amount of push it take to run a patch through...surprising how black patches are after one shot....figured it couldn't hurt following manufacturers recommendations
  18. Is that the Benny Cooley JP brake? ??..brother put one on his LR 308..works great.took the thump and jump out of it....trade off is the noise..ear plugs are mandatory....and it knocks stuff off the bench next to you at the range...which is kinda cool in a way
  19. I used to wrap card stock around lower and use a punch with lower setting on a receiver block to hold it..last few years I've used a small pair of channel lock pliers with a cover on one jaw....way way better..easier to control...
  20. Have a Versa-pod on 24 in. Bull barrel AR...I like it ..feels solid but still has good range of motion, cant and tilt...quick detach is nice feature too.easy on/off multiple guns if you buy extra mounts....it does feel and look a little wobbly when folded up.if you were to run or maybe jump off something I think it would deploy itself ... Thought about putting heavier spring in it, see if that tightens it ... think it weighs little more than a lightweight Harris.....the GG&G I've got is a feather...none of the others even compare....getting what you pay for though..could buy 3 of the others for what it cost..my only criticism of it is that it's not as compact, tight to weapon, as the Harris bipods when folded up.

    %@!

After using the Lyman tool I use an old philips head screwdriver to roll the edge of the pocket ..doesn't remove any material and makes a nice little bevel/radius to start primer into pocket.....
  22. .Couple BCM Gunfighter chargers ...Burris rings...another box of Creedmoor brass .....trying hard not to have an expensive summer
  23. hobbesgunner

    Its hot

Check out Tru Spec ...they have a line of lightweight camo...I've got some shorts and booney hats of their's I really like ...woodchucks never see me coming...if your legs are hairy enough they're self camouflaging <laughs>
  24. Glad to see another "Upstate New Yorker " here <thumbsup>...for those who don't live here in NY , that's a political term for "you don't live in New York City.. so your opinion and vote doesn't count.I'm a Southern Tier NY'r myself....as close to redneck country as it gets in this state
  25. How would a bone stock DPMS SASS measure up to the rifles already mentioned???anybody got one of each for comparison.?? It would leave a chunk of change left over for high end optics...........just thinkin out loud here
