  1. I meant I'd not use the backing plate on the BAD, and screw it directly to the bolt catch face. The AR10 has a recess for the bolt catch in the upper, so the BAD backing plate will never work.
  2. Ahh. Didn't know the BAD was aluminum. I hadn't researched that far. I had thought about drilling and tapping the bolt catch, then drill and counter sink the BAD. With that idea, I figure the worst I can do is waste $30 on the BAD.
  3. Hmm. The photo's you posted I can only see the face of the bolt carrier. It looks like the finish is stippled. But that could be from the bolt rotating. The ones I had in the service (M16A2, XM177, M4) were all polished from what was probably 10,000's of round over their service life. You're is only 60 in. I would say if there is a definitive chip, take a nice clear photo and send it to Armalite Guy on here and see what he says. If he says bring it in, take a trip to Geneseo Ill to have it repaired. Call me (as I live near there) and after it's fixed, we'll go SHOOTING! <thumbsup>
  4. Yeah. I didn't find anything. And with all the (7.62AR) companies all over the place, I'm not surprised. I might buy a Magpul BAD and see if I can come up with a way to make it work on an AR10 bolt catch. I was thinking of silver soldering the two together, and then having them re-parkerized. I'll have to see if it will even fit. I'm pretty sure the relationship between the trigger guard and the bolt catch is the same (or close to it) between the AR10 and the M4.
  5. Nothing other than that if it's broken, you're Lifetime Warranty.
  6. Wow. You're a nice guy. I would have stayed. I get so little time to shoot any more. But then again, the range I belong to has a 25, 50, 100, 200 and 600 yard ranges. So the .22's usually stay on the 25 or 50, and I'm up on one of the others. <thumbsup>
  7. I'm wondering if there is more out there than the Phase 5 extended bolt release that works like the Magpul B.A.D.???? The Phase 5 V.1 looks like it won't work with Armalite AR10, and the V.2 looks pretty bulky. Is it just my imagination, or is it fine in the trigger guard? Are there any other companies that have one???
  8. That is pretty much what I was saying. <laughs> I am curious about the accuracy before I go laying down the big cash. But this chassis has EVERYTHING one would want in a chassis.
  9. I just looked. AICS 1.5 is 5 lbs. 5 oz. TAC21 is 3 lbs. And the Magpul PRS is 1 lbs 12 oz. So the weight is REALLY close to being the same once the TAC21 is outfitted. But it would save ANYONE from buying a rail to mount on the receiver AND you could run just about any BUIS with some degree of accuracy if you wanted to. You guys suck. <thumbsup>
  10. I fucking hate you guys right now. I didn't notice this thread before. And there it is today. And I was already to go with an AI stock for my LRT/XCR. But now........ I'm not sure I like the hand guard deal, but it DOES allow the use of BUIS should I want to use them. I can see this thing set up with a set of Dueck RTS and my M4 Leopold. DAMN IT! <laughs> How much does it WEIGH though?????

    new chassis

Nice. My nephew just sent me this last night. They talk about using a Magpul PRS. But.....it wasn't designed for a bolt gun. I'm wondering how it would stand up. The PRS is pretty awesome. I think I'll still go with a AI stock for my Remmy though.
  12. The hand guards are all the same. To have a rifle length on a carbine barrel though, you have to have an armorer that knows what he's doing. Changing out the gas block for a low profile version is pretty straight forward. But he has to make compression sleeves for the front sight to fit the (Armalite) .625 barrel, and also modify the original front sight to retain the hard guard delta ring. I'll post some photos up of mine. It's not cheap, but not really expensive to do. But it gives you a longer sight radius for iron sights. It puts them back to "stock" length. If you're solely using optics, or don't care about the sight radius, then it's not worth doing. Unless you're into how "cool" your rifle looks and you deem it "cool." For an operator, it also gives you more rail room. But, how much stuff do you need to cram on your rifle that you probably [realistically] will never use. Again, that kind of stuff isn't very useful to me, and is more "barbie for men" category. Mine is already a 10# club with a loaded magazine and my ACOG. I can't imagine adding weight to it just for looks or to be "bad ass." Ya know? I picked up my MOE hand guard at a gun show for $30. The AFG was about $30 also. The low profile gas block was $60 (they sell cheaper ones). I think the work to put it all together was about $100.00. Not sure that's normal/average or not. I do a lot of business there, so they might have thrown me a bone (so to speak) on the labor. I also have a Magpul UBR stock. THAT is AR10 specific.
  13. The Magpul stuff? Or the whole rig?
  14. I picked mine up last night. It's awesome! Should be on the range today or tomorrow. I might wait until tomorrow, as my Dueck Defense sights will be in. And I can zero both the ACOG and the DD RTS. I went with the Magpul MOE Rifle Length hand guard. It weighs almost nothing, and you have three common positions you can mount rail sections to. I'm not a fan of the vertical hand grips, but love the Magpul AFG. Really ergonomic, and still gives your reaction side hand something to assist in pulling the rifle into your shoulder.
  15. Wow. How did you do that? You ordered it on the 10th, and picked it up on the 24th? that's only 14 days! How does Armalite do it??? <laughs> It was Christmas for me yesterday too. The modification for the rifle length hand guards on a carbine barrel were done at my armorer, so I can pick it up today if I can get out of work early enough. Otherwise I have to wait until Tuesday. Oh the anguish.
  16. You can run lower rings if you use the Dueck Defense RTS BUIS. It requires that you have a rail gas block though. I don't think I'd ever need to remove my scope either, but I shoot practical rifle and combat rifle. And some stages are iron sights only. While everyone else is removing their optics, I just roll my rifle 30 degrees right, and engage. <thumbsup>
  17. You're right imschur, there IS only ONE AR10. <thumbsup>
  18. Same here Robert. I got your email, and will call asap.
  19. I run a Trijicon ACOG with the 7.62NATO reticle. They have several models in 7.62mm. The TA11 has an extended eye relief. My TA01-B is simple, rugged and flawless. There's a TA31 with dual illumination. Optics in my opinion are like asking a car enthusiast what his favorite car is. There are so many to chose from, and so many uses, it's just a tough call. I like the Trijicon ACOG because of the reasons cited. But I'm not looking to shoot beyond about 600m with mine. And even then most of the shooting I do is between 100 and 400m. I'm sure one of the long range guys will recommend something for out beyond that. But in my mind, if you are shooting at ranges similar to what I am, the ACOG is battle proven and pretty much unbreakable.
  20. Awesome. I figured, but safer to ask than to order and find out otherwise. And for those on here thinking about a Geiselle trigger, you can get a bundle package with several Geiselle triggers and one of these guys ambi-safeties. I had forgotten about that. But that's what I'll be buying!
  21. Is it the same part for the AR10 and LAR-15 as your M16/AR15/M4????
  22. Damn! Awesome. I'll take one for an AR10, and one for a RRA LAR-15.
  23. Damn! Awesome you guys are on here. My AR10 will soon sport one of your units, and I'm getting one for the wives RRA M4 variant. Are you planning on offering deals to board members? (hint hint)
  24. Welcome to the AR10 gang! I love mine. The recoil you're talking about isn't quite what you might think. You can also change things to adjust the level of felt recoil. A Heavy Buffer is one part. And it's pretty much just a change out on the kitchen table. Changing to a muzzle brake is also an option. I run an Advanced Armament Corps. Blackout. A heavier stock will also reduce felt recoil, but make your rifle heavier. I run a Magpul UBR. It does add weight to the back end of the rifle, but the fact that the cheek weld area doesn't move when you adjust the length of pull is WAY comfortable (as opposed to the metal buffer tube with the standard carbine stock). There are several choices from other companies that have a similar feature, and some of the other guys on here that have used them can recommend what they like and the brand. I can only speak for Magpul. As for optics, I have an Trijicon ACOG TA01-B. It's meant for 7.62NATO rifles, will auto range (via the reticle) to known ranges (and military ammo) and will stand whatever recoil you can throw at it. They can be expensive ($1200 MSRP). But I got mine NEW on ebay from Ghost Firearms for $600. And it wasn't a shelf sitter for years, it's only 4 months old. If you look at a used ACOG for the 7.62 rifles, be sure to ask the seller for the serial number before purchase or bidding, and then call Trijicon and ask them when it was made. They are very friendly, and will tell you with no fee. For iron sights (or BUIS as they're called) I run Dueck Defense RTS sights. Many others are available, and everyone on here has a favorite. And all the reasons they will give you for their choice are usually good ones. Check out many, ask lots of questions, and then buy the Dueck Defense RTS units. <thumbsup>
