  1. While not a helmet mounted version, I picked up one of the nv monocular for a good price a while back. It was a neat toy and surprised me how well it worked in a dark building. It still worked good outside with additional IR light. I tried using it through an EOTech on nv mode, it did work however I don't see a way to shoot a gun using it. That said the more advanced ones are very impressive.
  2. This is the lighter of the two. Never weighed it but it is not marked XH. Only marking is CAR 10.
  3. Despite advertising to the contrary this will not function with a LR308 and UBR stock. Like new condition. Also includes the buffer spring. Looking for a USPS money order as I don't have paypal. E-mail for pictures. Price reduced to $90 shipped. ETA: THIS HAS BEEN SOLD
  4. It would appear that clint aka slash refuses to stand behind his product when it doesn't work as promised. It was his suggestion (both in e-mailed conversation as well as his advertising) that his car10 buffer and spring would work with a magpul UBR stock. However after experiencing failure to chamber on every round, when I contacted him about it he passed blame to the company that built the upper receiver. After sending the upper back they tested it and determined that it functioned properly. They returned it back to me (at no charge). They recommended that the problem lies with the buffer/spring combination. I removed slash's buffer and spring and installed the original. The rifle ran flawlessly. Re-installed slash's buffer, failures after every round. I contacted clint w/ heavy buffers and was told that I could return it for 80% of the price minus shipping and that the spring I purchased through him per his recommendation is un-returnable as well. Unless it was within 10 days of purchase, which had already passed after sending the upper off to be looked at. This is some piss-poor customer service in my opinion. I would expect better from an advertiser on this site.
  5. The real hard part will be convincing her to leave after you've been here.
  6. General rule of thumb is 1x per 100yds, granted this won't give you the same performance as say 20x at 50yds, however it will get you hits at decent speed. What are your requirements? Will this only be used for shooting at targets? If so a high magnification will be more beneficial than a lower setting used for hunting. Personally I would steer far far away from the cheap chinese scopes listed in your OP. For a great value, you can get a Leupold or Nikon lower mid range optic for under $300. This will give you a 3-9x suitable for hunting/plinking up to 7-800ys. For about the same amount a fixed 10x SS can be had that will give you great performance out to the same ranges however it will take you longer to acquire targets and would be about worthless for hunting applications. You could opt for the lower end of Leupold/Nikon/Bushnell/Millet for around $100-$200 and while not as good might serve you well. Also bear in mind the cost of a quality mount (ADM/Bobro/GG&G) will run you up to $200 or so. If that is out of the price range, use a quality set of rings instead of a cheap mount. In my opinion any of the scopes you listed will not repeatedly hit the ranges you are looking for, the cheap off-name scopes will lose zero under the 308 load if they are even able to be used effectively at the distance to begin with. It costs money to shoot between the 500 and 1000yd marks accurately and repeatedly. It's just the way it is.
  7. Federal fusion 150gr seemed to perform the best, followed by 168gr federal ggm and 165gr federal smk. This is a 16" 1in10" twist. Winchester 150/180 power point and Remington 150 umc did the worst. These were 10 shot groups fired at 100yds.
  8. Got out yesterday for some 308 shooting. First time since adding the ssa-e and a few other things. Brought about 8 different types of hunting/match ammo to see how it groups. 100 yards on sandbags, leupold 3-9 scope on 7x (too little eye relief on 8x or 9x) 4mph cross wind for most the time, no gust over 10mph, settled down a bit towards the end. 10 shots fairly rapid (as fast as I could re-acquire sight picture, wasn't trying to shoot fast or slow) of each type at 1 target. Shoot ten, change the target, shoot ten of the next type, etc. No scope adjustments between shots or groups. [img width=810 height=607]http://s1034.photobucket.com/albums/a425/Timinem_photos/SU1HMDExNDgtMjAxMjAzMDMtMTUwMy5qcGc.jpg Nothing spectacular but the premium federal rounds shot the best.
  9. At least the "life" isn't under the glock logo.
  10. Why do you have a sticker that says cock?
  11. I believe I read somewhere that the demand of 308pmags doesn't justify the cost of creating additional colors. Maybe this could change now that the sr25 mag is becoming the standard.
  12. I put one of their mini red dots on a 7.62x39 AK, it has held zero after 1000rds and has the original battery in it, still working over a year later (not constantly on).
  13. Hunting/Self Defense: .223 Federal Fusion 62gr Plinking: .223 Wolf/PMC bronze 5.56 XM193 SHTF: 5.56 M8555/XM193 Pretty much anything that goes bang after that
  14. While I am sure Larue's mounts are quality, I can't stand the arrogance of the owner or the mentality of his supporters. Therefore I choose to spend my money elsewhere. GG&G makes excellent products and I own quite a few of them and recommend them often. I have never owned one of their scope mounts, however their eotech mounts are the best thing out there and I have owned several, I am sure their scope mounts are just as good. Their customer service is excellent if you ever have to use it. They do charge a high price for shipping though, and use that to make their prices look lower. My first scope mount decision came down to ADM or Bobro. I chose ADM over Bobro strictly based on customer service. The owner of ADM answered any and all of my questions immediately, was friendly, helpful, and made sure that I was going to be satisfied with my purchase. I was, and now look nowhere else for any optic mount. Another bonus of the ADM platform is the ability to swap the scope ring sizes as well, allowing the flexibility of using one mount for any size scope. While I am sure I would have been just as satisfied with a Bobro or GG&G mount, the ADM mounts accomplish what I need, while also supporting a business that treated me well as a customer. Until an ADM mount fails me or the company stops standing behind their product, I will continue to praise their company and products and use them whenever possible. I currently own multiple mounts, and have bought several more for others as well.
  15. Good choice, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
  16. Don't forget to also look at ADM for your mount. Every bit as good as or better than the other. I personally like their version of the throw levers the best.
  17. My DPMS platform build: I was functional at $1400 on my build from a stripped lower(not an 80%) finished with optics place me at $2200ish. I have a 308 rifle that is 100% functional, made with top quality components, more accurate than I am, and nice to look at as well. $1000 less than any of the "best" (read overpriced) manufactures with a better trigger/charging handle/stock and optics included. Back on subject, as stated $1000 will not get you very, $1500 is more realistic, however bear in mind that you still need money to feed it once it's built. Realistically $2k would be a minimum. If you just want a sub 1k semi 308 look at the $900 bushmaster/dpms entry or the basic cmmg style.
  18. Magpul recommends Slash's buffer for the UBR with a 308. I believe he is a member and sponsor here. Not cheap but it works as advertised.
  19. I would imagine once you zero the laser you shouldn't be making to many adjustments to it. Mount it 45 degrees and use trial and error until you are able to zero it properly. Eta: better yet, just mount your rifle in a vice, fire off ten shots and adjust the beam until it's in the middle of the group.
  20. I'm using the fsc-30 and really like it. I have had one of the bushy brakes you're talking about but it seemed extremely loud to me.
  21. FFP is only important if you plan on using your reticle for ranging. Unless you are taking precise long distance shots really fast at various distances it is essentially worthless imo. Arguably a person could claim it helps with holdovers, however you will be calculating holdovers using DOPE therefore you can learn them at each magnification setting anyways. Any situation you would find yourself in requiring having a constant reticle can be accomplished using a rangefinder and/or a spotting scope. Just my two cents, but I would save the cash on the FFP and use it on getting a better scope or a rangefinder.
  22. Also even if a crown was important, the muzzle device does not change the crown on the barrel.
  23. In regards to bills trigger work. I don't have the links saved, however a quick google search will show the reports I am talking about. It would appear the criticism against Geissele is disregarding what this trigger was designed to do. Also per geissele, the ssa,ssf,ssa-e, and ssf-e are designed to be able to be a single stage if pulled quickly. These are combat triggers, if you need to fire fast you can skip the 2 stages. They fire at the same time every pull though. My findings is this is why the second stage pull weights are lighter. If you compare most manufacturers triggers, the majority of travel is in the first stage and the majority of weight is at the 2nd stage. Geissele triggers have the travel and weight up front in the first stage, then very little travel and weight at the second. They are also exact from one trigger to the next. Even rra description says their triggers will vary between 5-7#s or something along those lines. That's not consistent.
  24. I've compared my geissele triggers to multiple rra 2 stages, a timney (single stage), mil spec single stage, armalite 2 stage, cmmg 2 stage, multiple factory bolt guns, and some jp that was installed by them into another guys rifle. The geissele is hands down the best. To me. Another person might have a different opinion. Geiselle's ssa series are not designed to break like an icicle. They are also the only trigger out there that will not fail. I've seen and heard of lots of "designer" triggers failing at inopportune times. Geisseles don't. That chance is not worth any minimal gains offered by a competitor. **Before anyone sends in triggers to bill do some research, there are lots of reports of these trigger jobs failing and resulting in multiple fires.**
  25. Timing

    Fwd Assist

I stand corrected. Never seen a RRA 308, figured they were all kinda similar. So does the FA on the rra engage the serrations? If so that would appear to be a better design overall.
