Is the 'open carry' movement going too far?
blue109 replied to gnatshooter's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
would it be any more dangerous than that drunk guy with the car keys? I'm not disagreeing with you, just throwing it out there. on the rare occasion I decide to go out an have a few...I do not carry. a few may turn into a bunch, and I know myself well enough to remain unarmed. -

it works fine with my xm80, but not my crusty old Indian surplus 75 headstamp. stock trigger popped the Indian no problem. and I'm talking about the AR trigger. the 308 version might work fine.
-
if you are adding notes to the triggers: the old style RRA NM triggers have a taller hammer that binds on the bottom of the LR 308 carrier. Timney AR15 trigger fits in a 308, but I've found it has trouble popping surplus primers. works for all of the commercial ammo I've tried.

finally got around to getting the scope in the mail yesterday. weaver said they would repair/replace it over the phone when I was getting my RMA number. they also said expect up to 6 Weeks for turnaround. start the clock! off topic: RRA also said via email they would replace the trigger, but I have to call to get the RMA, and they have sucky hours, and I work alot. I'll get there eventually.

that's better. just looks right. I have an A2 also but I'm more comfortable with the shorter A1. I'd prefer a lighter carbine buffer though. I theorize it will help with the undergassed nature of the rifle.

one thing we know...is how tough magpuls plastic is, and that the adjustments are pretty much indestructible. never heard of anyone breaking one. no idea if this new stock will hold up. it looks like the teeth on the ridged tab is what holds the adjustable parts in place. if the material isn't tough enough I can see one good drop slamming it shut. I'd wait for more reviews before I paid up.

my desktop has vista. I fear change.

Is the 'open carry' movement going too far?

on my last deployment, I came home when the stop-loss ended since I was already months past my ETS date. my unit stayed and a small group of us flew home commercial from Kuwait and left our weapons and a bunch of our gear there. I was literally having panic attacks not having my rifle with me. we ran out of toothpaste, deodorant, razors. we stunk. we pooped in chopped 50gal cans hidden behind a dirt berm. we saw a shower whenever the "shower truck" graced us with it's presences, but damn if that rifle was ever more than 5' away. there comes a point when it's more uncomfortable to be without it than with it. wish I could achieve that level of comfort again. -
jon...like an entry length? I think I've seen that. that's a good idea. I put ths A1 back on it for now and like it better. have an ACS to try out too. Thanks tom. As a fellow PRI whore I figured you might like it.

ahem. PRI A2 hotness :) don't think the UBR will stay, I was just seeing how it looked. havnt decided what stock to use yet. I've searched the internet many times and never seen a delta on an A2 setup. so here.

I think open carry should apply to anything. I shouldn't be nervous carrying a rifle because other people are irrationally afraid of it. I also think a big group caring them just to throw it in antis faces is stupid and destined to backfire horribly. -
ha! I don't have the resources to be an anything pusher...but as hunter always said, " if a things worth doing, it's worth doing right" ironically enough, my other browser window is open to a site where I'm getting all learned up on kitchen knives! here's my little work horse. Kershaw JYD. cool composite blade. the edge is hard D2 tool steel welded to tough maintenance free stainless.
-
SOG forge. FG01-L. it has a hard VG10 core, sandwiched between softer stainless. nice tough and corrosion resistant, while keeping the super hard center for edge retention. I've been lusting over this thing and finally sniffed out a deal on one. STUPID deal I might add. damn knives. I already know what I want next and will be selling that P22 I rebuilt to pay for it. stay tuned ;)

308 Charging Handle
blue109 replied to justinlee83's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
well...the tacops AMBI handle has a whole lot more room to grab with your right hand that that badger one you posted. and for the record...that pic you posted is an AMBI charging handle. -

somewhat torn. I think a gun should be no different than a hammer. it's a tool. anyone can carry a hammer around. if I saw a group walking into burger king carrying sledge hammers I'd probably expect a Ruckus. there shouldn't need to be any open carry "movement" because it shouldn't be an issue. but it is. the fear monger media doesn't help, but neither does a group of folks walking around with ARs daring anybody to get offended so they can spout off the legal statutes they all no doubt have memorized. the fact of the matter is, we need good publicity to hang on to what we still have. stuff like this knocks the maybes right off the fence in the wrong direction. -

kinda like the gay folks that have "pride" demonstrations in bondage outfits or half naked. -
was telling my wife about this and saw the lightbulb pop up. she says that might explain occasional strange sensations when she scrapes the rind with her teeth lol. good thing she's not allergic to ivy.
-
anyone tried it? I've used the 223, 9mm, and 22hv and I like it all so far. local place is selling 250 rd bricks at .58/per. seems like a good deal for new ammo.
-
split the rifle. slide the carrier back by hand from the bottom and see if it's dragging on the charging handle. if not, remove the carrier, lock the charging handle in place and pull on it without hitting the latch. should narrow down where the issue lies.
-
is the catch on the charging handle working? does it have spring tension? is the detent in the upper deep enough to hold the catch? def not normal.

last time I went looking for mangoes in the jungle, a tiger attacked me. never get off the boat.
