I used a plug in place of a forward assist on my 300 BLK build and don't intend on putting forward assists in anymore of my builds. I've never needed to use the forward assist on any of my rifles so I'm not messing with them anymore!

Copes Distributing has Anderson AR-15 blem stripped uppers on sale for $29.99. These are the ones with a shell deflector but no provisions for a dust cover or forward assist. I'm guessing that you would run into feeding issues with a bullet like that. .30 Carbine FMJ bullets have been used quite a bit in the 300 blk though.
