^^This , The Windham SRC 308 just hit the shelves, you're not going to find much info. on it for awhile. My thinking is don't buy any brand new model until it's had time for any bugs to show up & be addressed. <dontknow>
Welcome from Louisiana! .... Either one will work for you, I prefer the 16" barrel for hunting "Recon" it's also threaded where the hunter model isn't.
Actually this sounds like a good idea, depending on cost of course $$$

Apparently they do, well they may not care but they still want everyone to sign the petition so no harm in doing it.
"All military members and all civilians are invited and encouraged to show that you stand with us and with Chris Kyle’s family by adding your name to the petition."
308AR's and cheap don't usually mix well. This is likely the cheapest factory built DPMS compatible uppers out there...

Welcome from Louisiana!
Unless you're going to be shooting long range(500+) I'd recommend a 16" barrel to keep the weight down for hunting. I really like this upper> http://www.midwayusa.com/product/583358/dpms-lr-308-recon-a3-flat-top-upper-assembly-308-winchester-1-in-10-twist-16-barrel-quad-rail-handguard-lo-profile-gas-block-flash-hider
Reference pictures, this is a 50mm obj. w/ Butler Creek flip up caps mounted on a 1 piece mount with a 1.470 center line height. If my calculations are correct using the 1.50" centerline mounting height you'll be about 5/16" higher than my set up from the bottom of your front objective to the top of your rail.(7/16' to 1/2" above your rail) I think Farkle is spot on at around 1.3" for a 40mm objective.
The OP title says LaRue or ADM.... I have the ADM Recon w/ built in 20moa slope. From the top of the rail to the center of the scope tube is 1.470". With my 50mm obj. scope w/buttler creek flip up caps it sits perfect about 1/8" off the rail. So far I've not had any issues with it returning to zero. I don't have a LaRue mount to compare it to but from what I've read they should be neck & neck, you can't go wrong with either one.

I'm also using the ADM Harris Bipod mount and really like it> http://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/view/product/15/
