  5. My wife shoots , she has her own M4, and she carries a glock 19 and she just got a sig 938 for summer carry she likes to run and runs early in the am so it is good for her to carry... she fishes and can catch just about anything from 30 lb salmon to offshore tuna.... she is a RN and has been for over 25 years so she always has a trama pack whenever we go anywhere but she does not want to kill any game animals just is not her thing BUT she will cut meat clean meat and prepare it every night and love to eat it.. so I do the killing I think that is a good trade..... and we will have been married 40 years next year she is a keeper.. :)
  6. Mag bars work every time but you should build a fire or two with them so you know what to expect and remember on any fire your effort is only as good as your tinder preperation have enough tinder and enough small wood to get your fire going I always carry small votif candles you know the small round flat ones women like.... once i get a flame i light the candle just for insurance..
  7. Yeah you guys that have trees that shed leaves that is some good info blanket and bed all in one good info....
  8. A 22LR for a carry weapon? ok well I don't think it operates any different , they are designed to be carried cocked and locked I have carried one for 30 years that way ....
  9. Here if you are caught out hunting or whatever evergreen trees are your best friend spruce, White fir and douglas fir , they all have limbs that come almost to the ground and very thick so under them is very dry even in rain and snow, and so you also have dry kindling under them to start a fire. I also have sat out storms in the bottom of a big old cedar tree that was hollow but they are few and far between..... a rock ledge would also be good if it was handy. I always look for something I don't have to build as I am always deciding on staying in after dark to late and it is already dark.... lol
  10. If you like Guns and hate hogs this is for YOU! 300 blackout some more hogs from the air machine gun style

  13. Bear hunting can be alot of fun either baiting or running hounds I prefer hounds as you get to run along with the chase which can last serveral hours, it is a young mans game (hounds). Bears are what they eat, in the fall a bear that has been eating salmon is about unedible due to the oil in the meat and the stink, but a bear eating huckleberries is awesome and the fat from him is some of the finest in the world for baking. don't worry about gun size any weapon 270 and up is fine they are not hard to kill, as long as you make a good shot. The problem with bears is the fat in the fall plugs up the bullet hole and there can be very little blood for trailing so use a top notch bullet Barnes or trophy bonded, a bullet that will make two holes one in and one out... Get a bear to the taxidermist quick as the fat starts to spoil fast and can make the hair slip... have fun and take lots of pictures

  15. bird poop! sparrow ? starling?
  16. I also like it for being quiet these guns are great for hunting except for one thing when you first get out of your rig and charge them they are louder than a train crash so i ride the bolt forward quietly and tap the FA a couple of time and I am good to go....
  17. V-tac slings, triggers (your choice) and glass, and Bad lever ... pretty simple for me I like simple.
  18. I am 100% spot and stalk or walk up I do glass alot more now as i get older because i move slower lol but say Elk for instance they occupy 10% of any given area so if you had 100 sqaure miles there would only be Elk in 10 of the miles... So if you are sitting in a blind or a tree in any other part of that area you loose. I am old school when it comes to hunting my first 25 elk were all packed out in pieces on my back and the backs of my friends, I hunted miles from the road why? because that was where the elk were... So to answer your question I like spot and stalk or just being on the move looking as stealthy as i can if i get into a lot of sign I slow down because the animals are there I just have to see them before they see me... I consider myself a sniper moving around looking for places the elk or deer are using I will set up on a spot like that for a small amount of time then move on to the next such sight all the while watching the wind, they may hear you and not spook but if they smell or see you the gig is up.
  19. Sorry I should have called it by it's modern name a magnifying glass it was a brass tin as you can see traded to Native Americans and it would hold a flint and steel and some tinder and on top was a fire glass..... :)
  20. Ok folks here are fire making devices from primitive to stone age..... now it is up to you guys to ask questions and if you want to see something up close just ask and i will put a pic of it in this thread and also discuss how to use these different ways..... From left to right 1.bow drill, fire boards, palm rock, spindle, 2. tinders. chaga tinder fungus, ceadar bark, wood shavings, also rawhide piece for catching ember under fire boards. 3.hand drills and fireboards. 4. fire pistons ,flint and steel, hudson bay fire glass, and various steels.
  21. That was some funny chit.....
  22. Man that is one fine primary weapon system..... I love it all and you will love it supressed that is it i got to build me a 300BO
  23. That was very cool and very uh enlighting...... carry on ...
  24. snowmobile .... i have always called them sleds.. sorry about that.
  25. The snare breakaway feature is just really a swaging tool where you join two pieces of wire together and the strength factor is by how strong the swage is done I have not made them this way yet as i would have to by the tool but they are required by law here. On fire now that is something I am pretty good at no bic lighters required, the meathods I have had success with are flint and steel (easy), bow drill not hard once you understand the process, hand drill hard , hard ,hard but once you get the hang of it it too is not to bad but expect blisters. FIRE PISTON!!!!!!!! everyone should have one in each and every pack they own you can make them for a few bucks from modern materials. and all the mag bars and those types are pretty fool proof but i set the challenge to each and every one of you go to the woods and make a fire from materials you can gather.. it can be humbling but it also can be the difference between life and death.... I can show pictures of all these meathods if you guys want me too...
